My Diary to Debt Freedom!

  • So I've abandoned my diary this week - how bad of me! Have been busy at work and with kids stuff etc so thats my excuse.

Not a huge amount to report. I have paid everything that needs to be paid and am left with hardly anything - which I suppose is good, because I have actually paid the things that needed paying! There was a final wedding bill, road tax, credit card minimum, PDL last payment, music tuition fees for DD so all paid up!

I've decided to reconsider my £1000 aim for the 1st October, as I think with the PDL coming off, and the final wedding bill, thats eaten up around £650 - so to try and raise a grand with a 600 hit, its not going to happen in the real world.

I think I'll aim for £500 for 1st October, and then I can maybe reassess and go for the grand for mid November or something. I don't want to give myself more unneccesary stress!

Shall update my signature and start again.... I had to use the £26ish that I had started, as I wouldn't have had enough to cover cheques otherwise!

Hope you all have a good weekend,
    Mrs S x

Hi Mrs S. Good news clearing the PDL and the last of the wedding debt. Don't worry too much about changing your overpayment to £500. It's all progress in the right direction and like you said, it's not worth the added stress x

Well done on paying off the final wedding amount and the PDL.

    Those are great achievements.

I think lowering your goal is wise if it is a little unrealistic.

I hope you are having a lovely weekend

  • Hi Ladies! Thanks for dropping by and for the positive comments, it gives me a boost! I think that £500 is more realistic at the moment for my first overpayment - I need to try and be realistic.

I'm going to check over the finances later today (as I'm off work) or later in the week if I don't get a chance today and see whats what.

Hope you all have a good day,

  • Hi All, just popping on because I'm getting all demotivated again! :(

Have no spare money at the moment, so can't even start PAD towards the overpayment I want to make on 1st Oct - boo :(

Hubby gets paid today, so will get food shopping money from him, and then the change will go towards the overpayment, which should make me a bit happier!

Am fed up at work just now too, so have been looking at other jobs, which pay more. I am in an okay job right now, but the money isn't that great, and neither are the prospects from where I'm sitting. I've been here for too long, and think they still see me as a teenager.

Anyway, off to have a bar of chocolate - that always cheers me up!

Hope you're all having a MSE Day :money:

  • Aw Mrs S, it sounds like we've both got the blues. I am feeling much better over the last couple of days - a combination of being at work (!) & away from the children's squabbles, eating better & just looking forward, not backward) - so hopefully you will feel better soon too.

Food shopping is so expensive just now, I used to be chuffed to get a food shop for £50, now I find it so hard to get it for under £70 & all be eating well. This week was over £90 including washing powder & lots of cupboardy things we'd run out of. I've also noticed that a lot of the basic ranges have pretty much doubled in price (pasta, passanta, biscuits etc). Did you have anything left for your overpayment after food shopping?

Re. overpayment, what about trying to make some money this week (eBay, car boot, Amazon trade in etc), which might help?

What field do you work in? Could you do a wee bit of studying to help with future employment prospects?

  • Thanks for your replies guys. I'm just feeling blergh this week, its been a rubbish week, and I'm full of the cold to top it off. Going to go home from work early I think, and pop to the shops on the way so I can just get the kids from school and go home.

The money front is just the same at the moment, so no updates to my sig. Have a few things to try and sell this week, so will do that and see what I can get rid of.

I got a student loan statement in this week, its not as bad as I thought, sitting at £1911 and I thought I still had about £3k on it. I don't really regard that as bad debt (maybe I should?!) but as it comes off my pay and takes care of itself I don't see that as a problem debt. I paid just over £1k to it last year, so if the same repayments keep coming off my pay, it will be less than a grand next year, so may be able to just pay it off to get rid. There are other more pressing debts tho - we want rid of the loan!

Funny you should mention further education Scottish, I went back to uni a few years ago and did a business degree. I promptly went on maternity leave afterwards so didn't really reap the benefits of that money wise as they didn't put my pay up dramatically for me to go off. I wouldn't mind doing more training but work don't seem to reward you that well for it (a big bugbear I have because the degree was a lot of work) so I'm a bit reluctant.

Off to finish off some emails, then I'm heading, going to be a lazy lazy MrsS when I get home!!
