Avogirly - next month needs a rethink. Will possibly be posted very soon but I need to change the tack that we have been following! It seems things have got tough, whether the weather doesn't help, people are becoming more complacent or things are a little bit more difficult during the summer holibobs! This month and last has been particularily been exceptionally hard for people and me included..... this needs to stop!

I have a name! I just need to think about the rules - I am curious though - does anyone follow them to the letter... I think I have slipped on food and SFD's this month but otherwise stick as close as I can to my own rules......

Is there anything people find irrelevant or too hard...?

NSK, I try to stick to them as much as I can, but adapt them to suit my lifestyle and outgoings. I love the structure and discipline that this challenge has given me this month, and I really think it has made such a difference. I have made a couple of slip up's, but nothing like I could have done had I not had this thread for support and guidance and for my first attempt at this kind of thing I am really pleased with myself. I love reading how everyone else is getting on and I find it very competitive when someone else is doing better than me! :D

I'm in BELFAST!! Resorting to the wee bus home as Pa's can failed his MOT!..:-((.. Working in August now but not whilst moving as I get sick as a dog! Had to buy food... Celery, a pepper, guacamole and a little Brazil nut packet..(Abundant your proud of my eating habits despite my travelling..ha!..) I've resigned myself to the fact that this month is kaput.. Not happy but its soon gonna start again!!!

    More soon!!!

NSK, enjoy your holidays at your parents'.

Just quickly reporting in. Yes, this month is shot. Done quite well on the SFDs but gone over food budget and other spends (some due to miss-representation in spend excel sheets which I'll sort out for next month.) My hormones send me on an hourly roller coaster from can't be ar*ed to yay let's do it. So that didn't help. But atm I am well up for August. We've got a week off and I am planning on a slightly new strategy for me to stay on the straight and narrow. Strict SFDs work best for me as I really think twice before byuing tat or a packet of chewing gum etc. Got over a weeks worth of lunches in the freezer and plenty of food for dinner so that should get off to a good start past pay day on wednesday.

Gonna read up on past post in my lunch break.

    Tada

  • Morning all - house going on market - our buyer still wants it but its going to take a few more days to talk turkey so we are going to have both routes going at once! Anyway - decision made - work to do!!

Sfd yesterday and possibly today. My new desk is landing today. Kids now grown so I am going back to the sun room to work rather than the dining table - very excited!! Looking forward to having a designated workspace rather than having to clear everything away if there are more than 4 of us eating!

Happy days - also the best bit of the day is that they took most of the photos last Tuesday but couldn't do the outside shots as it was a dull day (the first for weeks). Anyway the lovely lady turned up to do the outside shots this morning at the point I was moving the car to take a picture myself! It was just about the only sunny point in between the showers that there was. It seems such a little thing but bits like that and the window cleaners being at my friends house when I needed them make me feel really positive in the midst of the uncertainty.

Kat have a fantastic time back home - I always find being at my folks (Scotland) really surreal - so familiar but feels like a lifetime ago - actually for me it is over half a lifetime now - went to uni at 17 now 35!!

    Love to all

Have to say I agree..especially re the second sentence here..it really helps. Not that the treats this month didn't morph into 5 and my SFDs are always off the mark but 7 so far is better than nothing.

Think it's all going in the right direction Kat, wouldn't change too much! :T

I may have failed this miserably this month, but the OH had a splendid birthday :) and we got to see our daughter in 3d on Saturday :D soooo excited that we're team pink :) xxx

I have however reduced my debt this month by over £1000 and shifted the majority of it to 0% cards :)

Hello all. Glad this challenge is coming to an end. I feel I've been somewhat successful but still struggling with setting my budgets and sticking to them. Been using the CC a lot recently. I know I can pay it off next payday and I know it's mainly due to our holiday in Sept but I need to get more focussed.

Also fighting pesky fleas has cost me a fortune this month, leading to me wanting to budget for a monthly emergency fund next month.
  • I too have had a bit of a tough July, mainly down to my being off work the first 19 days of the month.
Just back from the week away taking the kids to a caravan by the sea. I had an absolutely fantastic time, and spent much less than my budgeted £300 (just a shade over £200 actually).
I need the discipline of being in the challenge to keep me on the straight and narrow, so will be back on the wagon and starting again for August - even though I have both kids all month! So I will need to be more money saving than ever.
