Sorry Abundant1972 but there's 2 more days of July!0
-
Defo two days left - just as well as I still have 22 hours to work (doable - Ive been pulling 10 hr days for well over a week now so nearly there! Also have due to hermit status made the 20 sfds today - didn't go to the shop after all. I think this is a first for me making the sfd target. Next month I need to do that coupled with the cash for food thing! Then we will be motoring
Sat typing at my new desk which was delivered this morning and I built this afternoon - nice having my own space and the dining room is looking well, like a dining room!!
Congratulations Kerri
Love to all,

So I got overexcited last night for nothing - it's not payday til Tuesday! Never mind, the 30 minute countdown is on...again!abundant1972 wrote: »
The extra purse/wallet idea is good. How do you manage it? Do you just put what you need in for that day (e.g. if it's a Spend Day you can put spending money in? Maybe just the week's food allowance?)... Am thinking of leaving everything at home except maybe a £10 of my spending money. When a planned Spend Day comes around, then I add to it my points cards, cash for groceries etc, taking them out again when the shop is done. Too OCD?!?! Lol:rotfl:
I'll match you in the OCD department - I have 3 purses which I carry with me at all times (admittedly easier with a girly handbag than trying to have 3 wallets in your pocket  ) One contains my misc budget. I withdraw the £100 on payday and put it all in there. I've never overspent yet so I guess my mantra about preferring to be debt free rather than have stuff is real because I'm never really tempted. I tend to use it for nights out (which often happen as adhoc catch ups with friends after work), yummy smoothies after yoga (okay, so I took my first yoga class in aaaaages last week and had a smoothie afterwards but it was so good it's on my planned list of misc spends for August....even although Kat specifically said no coffee shop/canteen/unnecessary food spends, I'm risking the naughty step because it's good for my soul and therefore justifiable! eek, now I'm scared she'll shout), waxing appointments, beauty products and all other things I spend my money on that don't come under the heading of food, petrol or direct debits.
My second purse is my Mystery Shopping float. I do some MS jobs and sometimes they require me to buy something which is then reimbursed. I use the money from this purse and replenish it when the job gets paid.
My third purse contains the money for my food, petrol and Oyster Card spends. Again, the budget is set and the cash is withdrawn. The money doesn't get mixed up because I tend to fill the car with the entire budget in one go and also because I keep a color co-ordinated spreadsheet (oh yes my friend, you think you have spreadsheet OCD?) so it tells me how much of the cash is for food and how much is for petrol. Oh, I also keep loyalty cards and coupons/vouchers etc in this purse so I always have them to hand.
On payday EVERYTHING ELSE gets paid towards a debt and I only have the cash in my purses to see me through til the end of the month.
For me, the most important thing is to have the budgets set and not to deviate from them. Sometimes, usually during the first half of the month, I think £100 is a lot for misc spending, but it fairly adds up and by the last week things are getting tight. If there's any money left over at the end of the month, I just carry it forward and reduce it from next month's budget so more goes to the debt!
I guess discipline is needed to do it all in cash and if you're prone to overspending or impulse spending it's probably best to do things the way you suggested Abundant and only carry a small amount with you...maybe do it on a weekly or daily basis? How do you do it just now? Do you carry debit or credit cards in your wallet?
I love pottering around Belfast Kat! I don't know Sawyers (but I did have a little look online and it looks my kinda place! Ooh, those olives made me want some - see, that's what the misc budget is for!). I love going to Avoca when I'm in Belfast. It looks a bit similar, more modern maybe? But they have the best bread ever! Or maybe that's just Ireland? Can't beat a bit of Irish soda breadAre you going to indulge when you're there? When in Rome and all that
Yeay to the girlie Kerry! Girls are fab! And who know, maybe in 20 ears she'll meet a handsome prince
Ooh, where did the time go? It's time for my monthly money shuffle .....0 -
Good morning everyone. I've been AWOL recently and don't really have much of an excuse. I've done ok for July and still had £25 in joint account when DH got paid Friday so that went into savings.
Our baby girl is being evicted this Friday so I don't know how I'll be able to keep up with you all. DH has a fridge/freezer/pantry full of food for while I'm in hospital and will have an entertainment fund for DS as well as the monthly pass for the play barn. I have a budget for hospital parking and spends for me while I'm in hospital so hopefully won't go over that.
Our savings pots have managed to go up significantly this month which will be handy for August. Credit cards are still being paid and the extra payments are going into an ISA for interest earning.
CONGRATULATIONS Kerry_DFW on joining the pink club. I love my son to bits but it'll be so nice having another girl in the house.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Exciting times!!! We have a baby boom happening and debts dropping off the radar - Fantastic news!!!
Siouxsie - Am liking the way your wallet system works!!! Not sure I trust myself to carry all that money around with me lol so will most likely leave the petrol money in the bank, and just draw money out for the week... but yes - will keep that in one wallet and my misc spends (trying for £50 per month) in another and see how I go!
My bad re. July! Yes... we have today *AND* tomorrow!!! Gawd... it seems to be going so slowly!!! Ahhh well - I'll enjoy July whilst it's still here - after all - it did give us some *amazing* sunshine... and it's not July I can't wait to see the back off - just my poor money management for the month lol!!!
Have a great day everyone!!!
