dizzytina-i've never attempted a sock monkey. The furthest my sewing abilities stretch is bunting. I would tear my hair out trying to make a sock monkey! I like the snowman best by the way! Very cute xx

Ha ha ha:rotfl: I meant Mrs money penny sorry!!

Sock monkeys aren't that hard once you have made a few its just getting the hang of it to begin with :D

  • Flumina, your soaps are beautiful! I'm currently loving looking at handmade soaps, as I'm slowly acquiring the bits and bobs to make my own. Got oils, safety goggles, buckets, lye etc, just need a hand blender now (I know you can do it with a spoon, but a value blender is £4 so it's not a big outlay). I'm hoping my soaps will come out well enough to be xmas pressies, I know quite a few people with sensitive skin so they might appreciate a natural soap.

    Hi all,

Just a quick post to show you these coasters I've made. They're the first Xmas presents I've made this year and all the ladies in the family will be getting some!

Made from 4" white tiles, Cath Kidston napkins and some felt. I am really pleased with them!

    Hope you like them :)

I saw Kirsty Allsopp doing something similar and they looked good but these look fantastic. I will be doing family these for Christmas! :D

Can I just ask how you sealed the top of them, was it with pva glue?

Yep, I followed the Kirstie Allsopp method from her 'home style' tv show recently... Sealed with 3 coats of PVA.

The napkins do go a little wrinkly but I think that adds to the charm. Makes it kind of 'textured'.

They are gorgeous!! Are they not "tacky" when you put your hot mug on them? I made some using modge podge and they just stuck together when stacked and peeled off the paper when unpeeled. Subsequently I haven't made them again. Does Pva glue not do this?
Presumably they would be wipe clean only given the felt on the bottom?! X

If I'm honest, I haven't tried them with a hot mug, but I've also read a lot about using PVA for them and seen no comments of them beng tacky. I'll do a test this evening/tomorrow with the next set I'm working on...

I did read something about mod podge, the general consensus being that it's always still tacky once dry so you have to 'seal' it with something... Think I'll stick to the PVA!

There are some lovely bits on here :). I've been ill all weekend so I haven't been able to do any sewing, but these are a couple of patchwork blankets I've made recently. The Staw Wars one was for a friend of mine to give as a gift - I said his friends had better have a good sense of humour! To be fair it did turn out better than I'd expected though.
