Initially I was going to use this offer for Oyster topups only, but it's been too much hassle tbh as many times I've gone to a store on the Amex list, they've claimed not to accept Amex (!!!!!!?!) or charge 50p. I guess it's still not bad value with the 50p charge, just slightly annoying.
So I've made other £10 purchases on essential items/services I'd buy anyway as I can't be bothered to travel all over London to these stores, only to be refused Amex! (happened in a few stores in Paddington/Edgeware Rd yesterday)
I've still got a few more small shops left so will try again if I'm in a different area.
I'm waiting for the Harvey Nics/Liberty thing they did a while ago! I missed out on that one.0 -

I purchased airport parking online with Sky ParkSecure using my AMEX, and got an email back from Amex confirming a credit for £5 with the ShopSmall offer. A nice welcome surprise!0

To:- any small shopkeepers
Can you pl tell us why so many shops seem to have issues with an Amex card?
Of course, they must charge a higher fee, but is it so astronomical that they prefer to lie and say they don't take Amex, even in preference to having no sale?
Is the fee so high that an extra charge of 50p, 75p or even £1 is justified?
And if the shop really doesn't like accepting Amex, then why not simply not sign up with Amex in the first place?0 -
I think amex fees can be upto 4 times higher than other cards.0

Where I work amex charge about 1.5% more than other cards, not a huge amount but getting on for 30p on a £10 transaction.0 -
