I had a surprise shop small notification yesterday.
Was at Wimbledon, and had woefully miss-judged how cold it was, so bought a towel from the shop to use as a blanket, and got £5 off!0 -
HI
Tried it with a local retailer but it wouldn't take my card. He said he accepts Amex, knew of the promotion but I was the first one to try to use it. He said he will contact Amex.
Doesn't help me get my £5 back - oh wellThe Cabbage
Its Advice - Take it or Leave it:D0 -
Any newsagents or shops that do oyster top ups and take amex cards who are participating with this offer in or around oxford Street London?0

Oyster topup at Bottle & Basket, 187 Waterloo Road. Nice staff.
Tried to use Amex at another convenience store near Southwark and was told there is a 50p charge. I said no thanks.0 -
I tried this with six different retailers over the weekend, all of whom appear on the amex site when searched. Only one took the card and processed it without complication, two couldn't (as opposed to wouldn't) get their pin reader to recognise the amex card, and three (including a largish Budgens) point blank refused to take it.
How the last type can appear on the amex site as an outlet when they simply don't take the card is an interesting one - is it the retailer trying it on, in order to get people to shop there and then they're forced to use a different card, or is it amex just being shoddy with their admin? Anyway, if they didn't take it I apologised, and simply left, two bottles of (a little overpriced) wine to go back on the shelf.
So a waste of time frankly, but not a waste of money - just a bit pointless.0 -
I only became aware of this promotion through this website. Did Amex contact people directly to let them know? And if so, how do I get on that email list!
Like others, my Budgens refused Amex. All other shops I have tried have accepted it – with limits of say ‘over £10 spend’. Fine by me! I get an email minutes after the sale to tell me that it was counted and how many times are left out of the 10 to begin with. I am very impressed with the slickness of this. Purchases I made on the 3rd are showing up with credits in my online statement on 6th July.0
