I thoughtthe idea behind this was to boost sales in small (maybe independent) shops? When I search, results include Burger King, Lakeland, Toni & Guy and lots of other multiples.

    Am I doing something wrong?

Going to have a look now. But in my experience most owners of small shops roll their eyes when they see you get an AMEX card out - they are so slow to pay out apparently.

Lots of those are Franchises though, so despite the Big name, they're owned by individuals.

The sops on the list should use AmEx, as they'll be signed up to the scheme.
That said, there were one or two places I went to last time that still refused.
    Luck of the draw innit.

I found some of the shops last time didn't, and had never, taken Amex. All a marketing attempt by Amex for consumers to try and persuade small shops to take Amex.
