Wow! This thread has moved fast!!

Claire Hope you’re feeling better about your bump measurement today. I’ll be 29 weeks at my appointment next week and have not been measured at all yet.

    Mancbird welcome to the board!

Lush Glad to hear you got your appointments sorted. I only make the next appointment when I’m there and have had no problems at all. You must be at a very busy clinic. Our mw’s are only in clinic once a week, out visiting mums and babies for the rest of the week.

Lovely bump pic kerri, hope baby makes an appearance for you today!

Mrsbunny I love mary poppins and look forward to seeing it every Christmas. My mum likes to remind me that I wore out the video I had it recorded on as a child as I watched it far too often!

Becca I’m planning on staying at home as long as possible too, hope you are able to with your meds. You’re more likely to progress well somewhere you are comfortable, rather than in a too hot/cold/busy maternity ward. But as I have to keep reminding myself, nothings set in stone and we’ll see how we get on.

Robots sorry to hear about your appointment. 97% sounds so different to 1 in 30 doesn’t it? Hope the amnio goes well and at least you’ll know either way soon. Sending you big hugs.

Rummer another big hug coming your way too. At least you’ve reached 36 weeks. Hope you’ve got time to get everything prepared this week.

Samtoby ahhh another pink bundle for the list! Congratulations. Glad it all went well for you at the scan.

Mysecretalias I didn’t get any movements till around my 20 week scan, and even then they were very faint. Now they can be massive (27 +6), on boxing day morning I was lying in bed and you could really see baby moving under my skin, very strange feeling!

Lulu I had a bad night last night too. Up a 1.30am and again at about 4am. Making up for it now lazing on the sofa...

Thanks for all the sling/carrier info ladies, must see if there is a sling library near me. Ellie that was a great post, thanks.

Afm, went to get my bloods taken ahead of my mw appointment next week. My veins are notoriously dodgy so had to go see the phlebotomist at the hospital. They have a walk in clinic (take a ticket and wait your turn…) and its usually quite quickly in and out, but after the Christmas hols is was sooo busy! Luckily the guy had better luck this time than last and managed to get the required 4 vials! Plus I’m not too bruised today, bonus. :D

Hubby has sensitive skin, so we use non-bio anyway, must remember to wash babies bits before they go in my hospital bag.

My folks have offered to get the car seat, so thanks for the recommendations/links (sorry can’t remember who is was!), I’ve got the maxi cosi cabriofix and family fix base on order with kiddicare. Price worked out the same as using the £25 off car seat voucher with boots. Plus boots are currently out of stock on the base, so couldn’t order now anyway.

Picked up the second hand carrycot I had off ebay for my oyster, it’s in brilliant condition. I also “treated” myself to a new grape colour pack to go on it (purples neutral enough isnt it!!).
So, all in its cost us £150 for the oyster including carrycot. All I’ll need to buy next year is the raincover for the pushchair seat.
That reminds me, do I need to buy a new mattress for the carrycot part?

phew...that was a long one!!
 Mini me due March 2014
  • I've just received a call to book my first physiotherapy appt - I only went to the drs on Fri! I'm very impressed. I could have been seen this Sat but unfortunately we're away so I'm doing it the following week. Hopefully it will help as my back is just killing me most days now.

sjlou - we're going for the Oyster as well. My in laws have offered to pay for it so we're going to get it new from a local independent shop. I'm tempted by the grape colour pack as purple is my favourite colour, but I think I'm going to wait until baby is here before I choose. We have to decide on a car seat still but have to see which will fit in our Focus as it hasn't got isofix.

On a different subject my SIL is also pregnant and is 7 weeks behind me. She's just had her 20 week scan and been told it's probably a girl - which is nice as she has 2 boys already. The thing is they want to choose names now because they don't want their 2 boys calling the baby "baby" all the time. I now feel a bit pressured - we have been thinking of names but nothing decided, and we only have 2 boys and 2 girls names so far. I'm now worried that they might choose one of the names we like and I won't be able to use it.

Is it silly to feel a bit resentful that we won't have the leisure to decide when baby is here? I thought we had months to decide yet. My DH has suggested we tell his mum of the ones we like and she can put his SIL off if they mention them. I think that's what we'll have to do but I wanted to announce the sex and the name on the day baby was born and I just feel disappointed now.

    Hi ladies,

Wow, I have 4 pages to catch up on......still sorting out babies clothes and room etc. we manage to get an electric steriliser off free cycle a while back and have just decided to set it up to see how it works. It's a Tommee teepee one and you just add 80ml water and plug it in. Now we got no instructions so I have no idea how long it takes it's been on 45 mins so far, went from H to C to 3 on the monitor. Have tried to find instructions but can only see them for the current model, ours must be at least 3 years + old. Does anyone have any experience with electric sterilisers? Glad we are doing this dummy run!!

Saw friends last night and it was very odd saying goodbye knowing next time I see some of them I might be a mummy!

Had a lovely (tiring) trip up to London today to the science museum, managed to find enough benches to pit stop around the exhibition and got home early afternoon. Hubby has now put the car seat into the car, and the buggy is assembled and in the nursery for now. I started clearing some of the washed baby clothes into the baby's chest of drawers, into IKEA sorters so I've got one section for newborn sleepsuits, one for newborn vests/body suits, one for muslins etc. More washing and sorting to get through but hopefully at 36 weeks I have a bit more time to get organised!

Don't think I'll be awake at midnight tonight, might just make it to 10pm I'm so tired!!

    Happy new year all xxx

PS we bought the wilkinet sling on recommendation of friend, £30 something from Kiddicare sale. Can't vouch for it as not used it yet, but been watching you tube videos to see how it works. Thanks for the really informative post Ellie.

Is anyone thinking of getting a front carrier instead of a pram for their little one? I'd like to find one that supports the proper hip position (feet up in a sitting position, not hanging loose), and I'd love to get some suggestions if anyone has any. :)
We're not having a pram - we've got a stretchy wrap for when the baby is little and then I have woven wraps and a mei tai and DH has a rose and rebellion for when it gets bigger. I'd recommend going to your local sling library if possible as then you can see and try out lots of slings to see what you prefer and get advice.

This is probably a better question for those of you who already have 1 child but what size of clothing are people buying for when the baby is immediately born?

Ive bought a few 'newborn' sleepsuits and also some 0-3 month ones.

Ive just been googling it and some people said that the 0-3 took a while for their kids to fit into so now Im thinking perhaps I should have bought more newborn as I expect we'll get 0-3 stuff as presents.

Then I saw on mamas and papas you can get petite newborn which is up to 7lbs which from my paranoia from yesterday got me thinking maybe I should be buying that!

On the other hand Im thinking screw it, Ill just keep to what Ive got now, and can always go on the internet and order stuff the day the baby is born if needed, it would arrive in a few days and clearly youd be in to accept deliveries :)

There is a really cute starter set in the M&P sale which I kind of regret not buying yesterday now and wondering if to order online just wondering what size to get.

But then my friend was told her baby would be small and it was 7lb I think 10? So buying petite stuff would have been a waste of time. So I guess Ill stick to normal newborn for now.

I'm putting both newborn and 0-3 months in the hospital bag, just in case she's a crumper lol if she's less than 7lbs then she'll just have to wear something baggy until someone can get to the shops- everywhere seems to do smaller baby clothes these days, think most places they call them tiny baby or early baby.
My niece came home in newborn but was a bit small for them so kept squiggling her arms down into the body, then her doting auntie got to do some extra shopping for tiny baby things :)

If you don't think you've got enough newborn, mothercare have some lovely multipacks on half price and they've got integral scratch mitts on the sleepsuits which my sister raves about lol

    I've been Money Tipped!
Claire I've got a few newborn bits but mainly 0-3 as newborn in some places only goes up to 7lb something! Our hospital is near the town centre so if we're really stuck DH can go & get some bits & I'm sure my mum would too. Tesco is 24 hours lol

Yeah thats what Im thinking, DH or my Mum or Dad would get stuff or I can order things.

I really need to lay out all the stuff Ive bought and maybe write a list. So far Ive been ordering stuff I think looks cute, putting it in bags which DH puts in the loft and so now I cant really remember!

Will take a look at mothercare TL.

Our hospital is near the centre too and we live only a mile from another town with an M&Co and Sainsburys here has clothes - Tesco annoyingly took all their clothes out of our local store.

Im also deliberating what to get for a going home outfit, style wise really as I guess Ill get newborn for that.
