Is anyone else suffering from insomnia? I normally love my sleep and usually need at least 8 hours sleep but over the last few weeks I've been really struggling.

I am working nights at the moment, I got in at 8am and went straight to bed exhausted but was wide awake at 11am, then 12, then 1 and now after lying in bed staring at the ceiling I have given up! My eyes just ping open and that's it I can't get back to sleep. I've been quite lucky so it's not pain, heartburn or the baby that is keeping me up. Maybe it's just practice for when he's here?! lol Problem is by the time I am due to go back to work tonight, I'll be tired and ready for a nap! 4 more shifts to go.. :D

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas! Jox, I am glad you managed to get a little bit of home leave yesterday. We had a nice relaxing day just the two of us, as we were both working last night, it was nice just to lounge around and do our own thing for a change instead of travelling to visit people. Next year will be completely different, with a 10 month old to share it with, I can't wait!

Hope everyone had a lovely day yesterday, our Christmas is on Sunday with the family as parents are still in the Caribbean ;)

DH and I swap gifts yesterday, he bought me a pram charm for my bracelet and I bought him some bits n bobs for his radio control plane (well he told me where to put my card details on the website we ordered off!!) :rotfl:
We don't have the cash this year to buy loads, £30 limit. I am so pleased with my charm.

The day itself was spent on the sofa watching films and various tv programmes, it was actually really nice not to have to leave the house or entertain, we didn't even get dressed! Had a shower and just sat in robes all day :D

Today we ventured out to Argos to get a gym ball as my hips are so sore, have had the ball 3 hours and it is already the best £6 I have spent! DH is back in work tonight so I plan to catch up on the soaps (DH hates them) and I think watch Harry potter.

faerie - I don't sleep much any more, I get to sleep ok but by 1/2am I'm wide awake, I try to snooze and sometime it works, other times I'm just lying there, doesn't help that I think I have abit of spd...as my hips are so painful.

Lilly lovely to hear from you, I do hope clover is home soon and is doing well, hope you manage to have a good day with her yesterday and the nurses made it as festive as possible.

Jox so hAppy to hear you were allowed home for a few hours yesterday, long May baby stay put and you are well looked after by the hospital, you are in good hands there.

Been doing lots of 'Disney' research watching all the kids films that have been on TV.....off to watch cars2 now!! :rotfl:

Congratulations Amy! Lovely name, are you a Firefly fan?! :D

Fingers crossed your babies stay put for a while longer Jox and Rummer! :)

Nice to hear from you Lily, hope Clover is home with you all soon. :)

Faerie, I'm terrible at sleeping now, seem to sleep through until about 3am then I'm wide awake for hours. :( I'm knackered. We don't even have a spare bed for me to go to, the sofa is too small so I end up with a bad neck, tried the blow up mattress but that gave me a bad back so I'm just stuck flapping about in bed trying to get some rest, even if I'm not getting sleep but it's disturbing OH so I feel both tired and guilty. :o

Sounds like nice Christmasses were had. :) We had a good one, spent the morning with my family and my 8 month old nephew was adorable, he doesn't really know what Christmas is, but he knew there was something exciting going on and was on really good form! Got us excited for next Christmas as our LO should be about 10 months and it'll be lovely to have our own little crawler and nephew playing with him! :) Had the out-laws for lunch and OH cooked... I got really annoyed after dinner though as OH's lazy ar5e brothers and dad just sat and watched us and MIL clean up, even though OH kept telling me to sit and rest I felt terrible leaving him to do all the work and the other men didn't take the hint one jot. Really felt like MIL should have told them to help out... if the tired pregnant girl can dry dishes, put everything away and move furniture around, why can't the perfectly healthy men do it?! :p

On Christmas eve the M&P 'Flo' baby wrap I'd ordered 2 days before arrived (good service!) so I was practicing all morning with a teddy bear as OH rolled his eyes at me! :) We're still going to order a more traditional baby carrier though as OH says that the wrap is 'so gay' and since it's purple, I'm not going to argue with him! ;)

We have a wrap and a Becco Gemini carrier as I hated taking the pram on public transport or shopping as it was so cumbersome. In fact this time around I wasn't even going to get a pram but OH insisted and I suppose it will come in useful.

Finally have a minute to hop on and say a massive thanks for all the support, kind words and congratulations from the lovely posters of this thread. We managed to get home in the evening of Christmas Eve and had a wonderful but very surreal Christmas at home with Inara :) She cluster fed until around 2am, but then managed to sleep until 6:30, fed again and slept until we were all rudely awoken by the midwife at 10! We forgot to make any Christmas dinner and didn't even open any presents until the evening as we were both so engrossed in our little girl that we forgot about the day :rotfl: A few family members came to introduce themselves to her in the evening and we facetimed with her grandparents in the midlands, which was nice, but we didn't leave the house all day and took everything as easy as possible.

I'm excited to see who is going to be next! Hope everyone had a lovely relaxed Christmas and that babies were all on best behaviour :)

TL - :o She's totally named after the Firefly character! DH is a huge fan, but I liked the name too and told him it could go on the list if it was a 'real' name... turns out it is, it's Arabic and apparently means 'illuminating' or 'ray of light' so it just kinda stuck :) Hope the wind calmed down enough for you to enjoy your romantic meal and Christmas dinner, unfortunately it doesn't get any more glamorous even after the birth!

Fran - Elena was on my list too, that would have been a bit bizarre! Hope you had fun Skyping with the relatives down under and that your hospital bag's now packed and you can relax a bit.

Kynthia - hope you enjoyed afternoon tea, sounds lush!

Mrs Bunny - hope you had a good time with your little sis and she was able to spend some quality time with bump. Good news about your OH being able to take some time off so you could properly enjoy Christmas too :) Some workplaces are really inconsiderate with things like leave requests. Oh, hope baby manages to turn in the next couple of weeks too!

Will update later, need to attend to baby :rotfl:

    ETA:

Con1888 - That's a bit pants about the doctors not getting your medical history! Hopefully they've managed to resolve it without too many issues and you're feeling much better now.

Smartcat - The physio assessments can be a bit brutal! With any luck you're feeling better now though and they should hopefully be able to help prevent any further pain.

Jox - Sorry to hear you've had such a worrying time over the past few days. I really hope that baby manages to stay put for a while yet and that the hospital's concerns turn out to be nowhere near as serious as first thought. It's good that they've been understanding about letting you out for bit, it must be nice to get away from the hospital - especially if you're surrounded by the noise of labouring women! I know others have said it, but at least the hospital have managed to identify what the potential issues could be and they will have the very best plan of care in place to make sure that you and baby recover well :grouphug:

Zippy - Hooray for baby being engaged and your midwife / consultant team sound like they're taking really good care of you :) Not long now!

Squirrel - :j for a clear GTT result! Hope you were able to relax and have a lovely Christmas.

Firefly - so pleased that the scan result was reassuring :)

Rummer - for the eventful few days but pleased that you managed to enjoy Christmas day out of hospital and get some lovely prezzies.

Lily - Clover is an absolutely beautiful name, and it's lovely of you to come back and update, I know lots of us have been thinking about you these past few weeks. Sorry to hear that Clover spent this Christmas in ICU, but hopefully she'll be home very soon and next Christmas will be one to celebrate even more.

    Merry Christmas ladies :)

Nice to hear from you, Amy and Lily. Glad you got home for some Christmas ? (even if the festivities weren't a high priority ;)), Amy. Hope you get Clover home soon, Lily.

Rummer and Jox, hope your babies both behave themselves! And glad you both got at least part of Christmas at home.

I can't remember anything else to reply to now :o I'm knackered as I have been sleeping worse &less than even is usual for me and having pain and/or BH a lot too. I'm pleased something is happening - I'm quite ready to have him/her out now, in a lot of ways - but it's not exactly a comfortable process and I'm struggling somewhat. :o I don't want to have to decide to induce early, so it would be nice if MiniZee would pick his/her own birthday... soonish! :p

    Morning!

Can I join you all please, I was 24 weeks yesterday. EDD is 17th April and I'm team yellow :)

Hope your all well and had a fab Xmas..........I haven't read back through the thread yet so congrats on any recent births etc
  • Welcome Debs!

A belated happy Christmas to everyone... I've been busy so rubbish with updating. Hopefully now I'm on mat leave and Christmas is done I can be a bit better!

Glad you got home in time for Christmas Amyloofoo, - I guess Christmas dinner was not priority no1! But the first Christmas with your little one must be so special.

All the insomniacs - I feel your pain! I have had 4 dreadful nights on the run and am utterly totally exhausted. Last night I actually ended up with blurred vision because I was so tired. Had to get up this morning as I had the midwife and I am meeting a friend for lunch who is only in town for today... then I plan to go back to bed this afternoon and try to catch up on some zzzzzz's.

Nursing bras - has anyone found any good ones which are a sensible price? I would prefer cotton to synthetic. I got measured in mothercare yesterday only to find that of hundreds of bra types in store they had only one single nursing bra in my size and it was frankly horrible. Grrrrr.:mad::mad:
Looking on John Lewis/Debs/HOFraser there are some which look like proper old lady bras, and some which look quite nice, but are £30 each... and given that I'd buy 2 day bras and a sleeping bra makes nearly £100

Crikey - just as I am about to hit post enormous hailstones start hammering down - everyone's car alarm is ringing!!

Grr - that annoys me too. Happens at my in-laws to some extent too. Absolutely the parents' fault for not bringing up their children equally. No reason men can't clear a table. And it only creates problems for the women they eventually marry. Happily my OH is definitely the cook in our relationship, so he pulls his weight in the kitchen :)

I'm sleeping terribly atm as well as all the rest of you! My pelvic problems are getting worse as baby grows. I can't lift my hips to roll over in bed, and we're sleeping in a little double bed at my in-laws (we normally sleep in a queen sized), so trying to turn from my left to right without shifting my hips in only half a bed is really difficult. Plus the bed's too hard so my pelvis ends up mis-aligned. I got up in tears last night at 5am after a night of no sleep and pain whenever I tried to move, and went to sleep in another bed. Happily it was softer and I got a bit of a rest. Looking forward to my own bed in two nights' time.
