Oh Jox, I'm sure you're handling as well as anyone could in the circumstances. Hopefully the baby is fine and everyone is just being careful. Take care of yourself and your little one.

Jox, how scary for you both! Will they let you home over xmas for a few hours too? I can't believe that on your home leave you have cleaned the house! Relax and rest up!
  • Jox, that sounds really scary. I hope you are doing ok and looking after yourself. Baby will be in the best possible hands and at least they are monitoring you both closely. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, baby and your oh.

I can only echo what the others have said Jox. Will be thinking of you and hope everything goes ok and please keep us updated as and when you're able. :o

Faerie I'll add you to the list I posted in the small hours of today. Welcome

I went to the midwife today. She said baby's head is well and truly deeply engaged (as I suspected from the pain! :p) and reiterated that if at any time I felt I needed inducing early I could let her know and she'd arrange an appointment at the hospital. And also that is a fine balance between giving it time to happen naturally and leaving myself enough energy etc reserves to (try to) get through labour.... she's gonna monitor me weekly now.

    One day at a time...

The dr rang to say my blood test results show I'm slightly anaemic so she's written a prescription, I'm really scared it will make me constipated though, already have enough tummy aches as it is!!
It varies what kind of effects you have and whether you have them at all so it's best to try what you've been given first before trying something like spatone which is a much lower dose of iron. Also, if you do have problems with them, you should go back to your Dr as there are different forms of iron and sometimes if one causes you problems a different one will be fine.

I read about the orange juice thing too but orange juice makes me feel really ill. So vitamin c tablets it is!
I'm taking vitamin C tablets to help with iron absorption (orange juice results in heartburn and iron supplements make me sick) and the best value I have found so far is Boots 30 x 200mg. They're eighty-something pence and are in the Boots 3 for 2.

I don't feel anymore tired than usual. I've been waking up wide awake & hungry at around 6am which can make me sleepy later on but I don't feel more tired otherwise.

The only thing is the past few days I've noticed I occasionally feel a bit breathless.
Anaemia symptoms are dependent on the rapidity of onset and not just your actual haemoglobin levels so if you've had a slow drop then you may not have noticed symptoms. I have been anaemic and capable of digging the garden and anaemic with symptoms so bad I could barely speak even though the actual haemoglobin levels were almost identical.

What are the iron tablets like? Are they huge or small? Because I can't swallow big tablets anyway so if they are Ill have to have lots of spa tone and iron rich foods - depending if the midwife also thinks I need it I guess? I'll have to ask her what my level is next week.
It varies depending on which you get but the ones I've had have always been reasonably small. Even the largest I've had have been about half the size of multivitamins and they were sugar coates which made them easier to swallow.

Inara Beth was born at 17:12 weighing 7lb 9oz and already in possession of an opera singer's lungs :rotfl: All the staff have been brill and I'll properly update when I'm home as things got a little complicated and I've lost one epic post already (stupid phone!) Baby's doing really well and feeding like it's going out of fashion - thank you so much to everyone on this thread who's put up with my worries, tantrums and wobbles over the last few months - I will be lurking like a woman posessed to see your birth announcements!

    Amy and Inara xx
    Congratulations!

Jox You must have got a real fright! Take comfort from the fact they have picked up on what is happening and that your baby is now going to be monitored really carefully.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!
