Glad you're home Lily, sorry the staff were so unsympathetic :o

Abis, hopefully baby will wait until you're feeling a bit better (even though I selfishly want more baby pics NOW! :rotfl:) I'm glad to see that it's not just me who copes with feeling grotty by doing too much internet shopping... this baby is so spoilt already!

I'm sure it will be fine. No other signs at the mo anyways. I think my body just thinks it has comical timing... I'm so tired. I had a bath and feel like I've run a marathon.

Lily, so pleased you are home now :j Glad they are keeping a close eye on you even if it is a bit of a faf staying in.

Lily so glad you are ok. Not v nice phrase to hear tho xx

Amyloofoo - thank you so much for your post on the other thread. I've been told no home birth & no water birth in hospital due to cannula & prob have to go on consultant led unit. I was diagnosed with GBS at 10 weeks, which I think is ridiculous so I'm going to ask to be retested. Been told I must have IV antibiotics which I'm fine with & go in as soon as labour starts, again fine. What im worried about is constantly being attached to drip/monitor so being forced on bed & labour not progressing well/requiring lots of pain relief/intervention. Ill do anything to keep baby safe but I want to know its actually going to help!
First baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/14 :D

Hopefully the rescreening will come back all clear but if it doesn't, have you considered asking whether they'd be happy to give antibiotics as a bolus dose (an injection through the cannula, rather than a drip) and use intermittent monitoring unless the baby's in distress? Some hospitals are used to doing things this way and it means you can move around as much as you like during labour. It's a compromise that would mean you and your baby are in the safest possible environment, and getting all the right treatment, but you're still able to labour as actively as possible :grouphug:

Great thanks - those are all points ill take to consultant. I've been told I can't go in the water due to cannula - Is that really a huge issue?

They won't like you doing it because it's an infection risk but if you're having bolus doses they could always tape it and ask you to keep it out of the water if at all possible - whether that's the birthing pool or just the bath in early labour. It's a tough one because it's understandable that they have to be cautious, however the risks are minimal (in terms of the cannula), especially when you bear in mind that screening isn't universal and most GBS+ women won't even be aware.

The other possible issue is that being in the water after your waters have gone could help the infection to 'travel' - although this is disputed. Lots of places are happy enough to let you go through the early stages in the bath / pool, but would be more reluctant after your waters have gone.

ETA: Are they retesting between 35 and 37 weeks? According to GBSS this is the best time to indicate whether it will be an issue during delivery - hopefully it will have cleared up by itself and you can have the birth you originally planned.

E(again)TA: Both Group B Strep Support (GBSS) and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists seem to agree that you should be able to have a water birth in spite of the cannula in the absence of other risk factors.
  • Abis - thanks for adding me to the list :) Hope your labour holds off until you're feeling a bit better.

Lily-glad they let you home :)

AFM - got the midwife tomorrow for 25 wk check. Am going to quiz her on the complications found at 20 wk scan as the sonographer didn't give much info ( low lying placenta and amniotic band). He did say the amniotic band wasn't causing a problem and I wasn't to google it cos I'd scare myself! of course have since googled and found it can cause prem labour, as can low placenta.

Then last night I started getting uncomfortable Braxton hicks which disturbed my sleep and had crampy backache this morning  it did go away but another thing to quiz mw about. I'm sure I didn't get it this early or this uncomfortable before....

Another glob of plug here I think, plus lots of Braxton hicks. Hope it settles down; I have to finish the Xmas shopping tomorrow!

I wonder how amy85 is getting on after her sweep?

Midwife says sweep went well. Was no where near as uncomfortable as it's been made out to be thankfully. Nothing happening as of yet but getting the odd twinge low down.

For some strange reason I am still wide awake & not impressed. I don't do lying in bed trying to sleep very well at all :( Hopefully I will nod off very soon.

Can't believe I am now officially a boldie

Glad it wasn't as bad as you thought Amy. Congrats on becoming a boldie...hopefully you won't be for very long.

So fed up of waking up at 3am. It's like an internal alarm clock, every morning, and I can never get back to sleep for ages. I've had to get up as I can't get comfy and am disturbing DH who needs to be up for work in 3 hours.
