Just adding myself to the list!
I'm due 7th Feb but due to having gestational diabetes it's highly likely I'll be induced 2-3 weeks earlier so apologies in advance for queue jumping!
The only bonus to GD is I'm getting looked after quite closely and will have extra growth scans! Aside from insulin injections, the big downside is I'll have a closely monitored birth, hooked up to a glucose drip the whole time and be unable to move aroundI had all this with DS1 too and it wasn't a nice experience. Any other ladies in the same boat?

Me! My due date is only one day before yours tooTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
I'm sorry I don't mean to queue jump! X
Lily when I had my son they provided bottles/ milk but apparently it's all changed since. I've got some mam self sterilising bottles so as long as they have a microwave I should be ok! Does seem a bit harsh if BFing didn't work out there's no alternative! XHaha only joking chick...my baby will probably be late, just like his mummy!
My hospital doesn't provide milk either. I've been told to take in some ready prepared stuff in case I can't bf. looked in boots- so many to pick from.
Wow. I'm shocked. That is really really poor! Next you'll be asked to take In your own bedding
Well, if it's any help, although they are a very expensive way of doing it - Aptimil, SMA and Cow and Gate all do ready prepared glass or plastic bottles of milk designed for newborn babies. They come in packs of 6 or 12 and it comprises of abut 150ml of the ready to drink milk and a pre-packed, sterilized teat that you just screw on. It's the same thing as most hospitals provide, and they were really handy when I had DS, as you basically just chuck what doesn't get used.
I used SMA with DS and will be doing the same with this baby just because they're about £1 a bottle, where as the other ones can be £1.20-£1.50 a bottle and I personally don't feel like there's a lot of difference.
As I said, I know it's expensive but they are really handy and it's not like you'll be using them for ever. If my hospital didn't provide milk I would be taking in a few boxes.14th October 201020th October 20113rd December 20130 -
Nice to have someone who knows what it's like! Is this your first baby? I had it with my son too but it started a lot later in the pregnancy whereas it was around the 12 week mark I had the GTT this time round:j30/7/10:j

This is my second and I was fine with my first no GD detected so this came as bit of a surprise! Initially I hoped to be diet controlled but I am now on everything and counting the days until I can eat unlimited chocolate again!
Luckily I had not great plans for a natural intervention free birth and I am content to go with the flow as long as my boy and I are safe and well at the end of it.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Thanks lily. Will look out for them x
Also, a handy tip.
Shops aren't allowed to offer discounts on Stage 1 infant milk (0-6 months), however, if you're doing a big shop with Ocado you can use one of their various discount vouchers (like £20 off a £80 spend) on infant milk.
I did it numerous times when we were buying DS's milk and I have an order coming at the beginning of December for the same thing for the baby. My order consists entirely of SMA (so I hope she likes it!) and I've ended up with £80 worth of milk for £60 delivered. OCado's prices aren't any more expensive than anywhere else either because all stage 1 milk costs a fair wack.
Don't tell me how they get away with it but I hope that helps anyone else who loves paying as little as possible for things14th October 201020th October 20113rd December 20130 -
Sorry for not posting this week. We are having internet problems since some extreme weather.
Massive Congratulations to all the new Mummies. The baby pictures are delightful and I can't wait for it to be me.:D
Big Hugs Lilymay. I hope the medical staff can give you some reassurance until your due date.
TL - Glad to here your blob was nothing serious.
Rummer - We are buying lots of baby books too and my OH mother is sending us some in Dutch so OH can read to him too.
Finch - I know what you mean about feeling guilty while on maternity leave. I live and work on a farm and I feel so guilty when everyone else goes out to work and I am left inside washing dishes and feeling useless. At least when baby gets here I will have something 'to do' with my time.
Durham girl - Welcome:wave:. I had my GTT this morning but won't get the results for a while. I have been classed as high risk because of close family history and BMI but I am still really hoping for the best. Although today when the midwife plotted juniors growth on the chart he is already above average and i really hope that is not a sign.
afm. Had GTT this morning. Had to drink a whole bottle of Lucozade in 5 mins (Yuck can't stand the stuff) and then couldn't eat or drink anything for 2 hours to take away the taste. Then had my first check in a few weeks. The midwife was lovely and spent ages talking to us and answering questions. Baby is measuring above average (). I am hoping we were both having a fat day:rotfl:0 -

.
Two of my closest friends were not allowed to leave the hospitals they were in - one south west & one midlands, for 5 days as they both had problems with breast feeding & so they weren't 'allowed' to go home. So it doesn't surprise me knowing that now!
The problem for both of them was that they didn't get that right type of help! I couldn't believe how long they were in for.0 -

Formula is a minefield! I am not sure what to use this time around. I think I had cartons of SMA last time just incase then my son was in special care so they tube fed him Aptimal so we were advised to keep to that. I think Cow&Gate and Aptimal are the same thing so I was going to go for C&G. I really do not know! xOver the next few weeks I am going to scour the charity shops and start building up my babies new library. There are loads of children's books that I love and I am determined to hunt them all down!I just feel slightly disappointed I kept my books for years then had to get rid when we moved in together, wish I would have kept them! x
Lily when I had my son I had to provide bedding!! This was 3 years ago too! I can remember the MW asking for his clothes just before he was born then she said 'well where are the crib sheets/ blankets' I was a bit shocked as I hadn't expected to bring sheets too! I did have a knitted blanket but she made me feel like an awful mother just because they had to hunt down sheets! Could do with checking if I need to provide them againgood tip about Ocado will see if they deliver here x
I am really undecided about things like vitamin K, my son had it as TBH I think I was so out of it I just said yes. This time I have been told baby can have a jab or have it orally. My MW didn't seem keen on the oral option but I hate the idea of jabbing a newborn. Apparently I can also take a CD for when I am in theatre and choose what track my baby is born to, DH keeps suggesting stupid things :rotfl:Trying to save for a deposit
