  • Hi all,

congratulations to all the new mummies and good luck to all those now due. Reading these posts a little enviously, since I am only 28 weeks and still have 8 weeks to work yet... I am already pretty tired and wondering how I will manage it.

I have a question about the hospital bag... all the lists I see mention front opening nighties. I HATE nighties, I always wear jersey PJ's to bed.
Why do the lists always say nighties? Is there a reason I can't just take PJ's for the hospital? I realise that front-opening is for breast feeding, but I have some PJ tops which unbutton at the front, so that part would be ok.
If it is just to labour in, I plan to take some old giant t-shirts for that which can just be chucked away afterwards if they get messy.

Also, what size nappies should I take for the hospital? I'm a bit bewildered by the range available! Baby is measuring normal size so far, but is unlikely to be a small one anyway as OH and me are both tall and not exactly fine boned!

Can anyone shed any light on this?
    Ellie
  • Hi ellie - no reason you can't take PJ's, or anything else you fancy wearing into hospital!
As you say, the front opening thing is for BF'ing, but anything that works for you is fine.

Re nappies - I would take size 1's in.

    I bought a baby bath - £5 in wilkinsons.

Was checked earlier & waters have gone but no contractions. They want to monitor baby again so we went home for tea and now back on monitor. If they are happy I will be sent home to come back tomorrow.

Apparently 60 per cent of women go into labour naturally when waters break. Hope I will be in that category.

I have been warned there is a back log waiting to be induced so if I am admitted tomorrow they may not start anything - so I really need this to start naturally.
  • Good luck TTC..looking forward to your birth announcement :)

Good luck TTC! I remember your BFP and it doesn't seem long ago at all.

Ellie, i am taking PJs, was going to get a nighty but couldn't find ome that wasn't either 'granny' or 'sexy' lol! Going to wear a big old t-shirt for labour and throw it out after if need be.

What is everyone doing about baby baths? I had a second hand one given last time I passed onto a friend. It seemed a bit big and pointless. I'm not sure whether to just buy a new washing up bowl?! Or failing that 'tummy tubs' look just like buckets, would a bucket work?! X
We were lent one the first time which DH used about twice before deciding the regular bath was easier. Second time our washing bowl needed replacing anyway so we bought a new washing up bowl and used it for the baby for a few weeks before putting it into use as our new washing up bowl.

ETA I also reckon a new garden trug would work reasonably well too.

    Oooh....good luck TTC! :j

With regards to a baby bath - we still use this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tippitoes-BM3-Mini-Bath-White/dp/B0037ZTT2A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382643761&sr=8-1&keywords=baby+bath and its absolutely superb for nervous mums (like me!) as the built in seat stops baby from slipping downwards - so I have always had a hand free (now she is bigger at 4 months - I have 2 hands free as she is way too big to slip down - so I can easily wash her and she can play with a bath book/splash around safely!). I bought it after reading the reviews on Amazon and I am so pleased I did!
  • Best of luck TTC40 - we got our BFPs the same day so you saying your waters have gone has just made me go "woah!!! It's almost our turn!!!". Looking forward to your announcement. Re waters: mine went during the day (leaked rather than gush) and I naturally went into labour at home at 2am next morning - hope yours do the same.

Ellie: I was a little sore on my tummy and 'downstairs' for the first couple days and found waistbands hurt a bit, especially when trying to sleep - I just used nightshirts that had buttons down front.

39+4. Is tonight the night? Who knows lol xx

    Hi Ellie,

I thought that maybe they recommended nighty instead of PJs for comfort reasons and not having seams etc. downstairs afterwards... as with recommending loose/dress/maternity leggings for going home in rather than jeans etc. etc.

    I have PJs.........

Thanks so much everyone for bath suggestions :) I'm going to go through options with DH. I'm so tempted by that bath IhateDida it looks so practical! X

I've been having Braxton hicks for weeks now, the past 2 weeks I've been having them every night and they keep getting worse. I'm currently lay on the sofa in lots of pain, no idea what to do with myself. Might try bouncing on my ball!
