  • Good luck Lobey!

38+5 today and getting fed up now! Just want the baby to be here and although I have been calm and chilled out, I am starting to get impatient! I am a very impatient person, so think I have done remarkably well to get to this stage ha! :)

I have zero signs of anything happening so I guess I will just have to wait a bit longer! Hope everyone else is well.
  • A bit of advice please, although I've having no 3, the first 2 were immediate fast labours - nothing, waters broke, then full on contractions.

I've had 'Braxton Hix' for every now & then weeks/months, which I class as the tightening/hardening of my belly, it's rock hard, and it makes it hard to move/breathe.

But yesterday, I had aches in my belly, with most of it being low, but not in 'cervix/birth canal' area.
They were so strong I would fall/have to grab onto something, then I laid down for an hour, they didn't really go away. This lasted 3hrs. After dinner I went back to bed & had period type lower back ache.

Did not sleep at all, and weird feeling & uncomfortable, today again feeling strange, but nothing as bad as yesterday.

Is this what normal, slow starting labour feels like? I know many have it lasting days?

Or is this just 'practising' which will keep happening over next few weeks?

I'm 35+4, but last baby was born 37+1, so not completely impossible.

Only a first timer so not had labour myself, but i was reading about braxton hicks yesterday and they said that they differ from labour contractions in that braxton hicks seem better with exercise whereas labour contractions don't
could you try going for a walk and see if it's better afterwards?

thanks for the mattress advice ladies, that kiddicare one is a great price so will probably go with that :) we're going to their aintree store at the weekend to try out prams. we have a yaris so boot space at a premium, which actually makes the decision easier as it narrows things down, don't know what i'd do if i could have any pram! lol going to for the babystyle oyster as long as it fits in, atm you can get it with a free car seat so seems like a right bargain

oh also, was looking at another site yesterday and people kept referring to themselves as FTM (first time mother) which really confused me cos the only FTM abbreviation i know is female to male, i was thinking 'there's a lot more transgendered men who are pregnant than you'd think' :rotfl:

Walking would have made it loads worse, it's only when I properly rested it calmed down.

Just iffy today, dodgy aches, but ignorable, not panicking strength!

That made me laugh :) thank you

Next door have got the builders in :( lots of banging and scraping. Seems there house is in the same condition as ours was - plaster crumbling off the walls, needs re-wiring & plumbing. The builders are also complete n0bs - lots of shouting, bad language and dodgy singing. I really hope they are done soon. I can't imagine being home all day with the banging etc. I finish work next Thursday.

  • Is it normal to be excessively hungry in the final weeks of pregnancy? For the past few days I've been really struggling with hunger and its getting worse. Since the start of the pregnancy I've been the opposite and struggled to eat due to constant nausea and everything (except junk) making me feel ill.

Today I have just picked at rubbish, I don't feel like a proper 'meal' but nothing is satisfying me. Today (well within a 4 hour period) I have ate a croissant, bagel, doughnut, packet of crisp and a whole (large/sharing) chocolate bar and I'm sitting here starving debating whether its too early to have my dinner!

I'm craving starchy/fatty food that involves minimal cooking effort. I'm pretty sure this diet isn't very good for baby! I hope this last week doesn't see me pile on the pounds.

Went to see the midwife, she offered a sweep and said it was up to me as they only really work to help persuade things along if your going to go into labour within the next few days anyway. I thought may aswell, even just to find out if cervix is favourable etc. She went ahead and measured bump, had feel of baby and said he's not engaged at all! :(

So didn't have the sweep in the end as she said it can cause problems if it encourages things too much when baby not engaged, risk of cord prolapse etc. I totally understand why there was no point in doing it and obviously main thing is that the wee man is healthy etc but a little disappointed that it doesn't look like anything will be happening anytime soon. Another appointment this time next week if not delivered by then to discuss induction at 40+10 - 40+12.

Just back from growth scan, everything fine and she's growing in line with the required curve thingy. She's also now head down, whereas last time she was breech, which explains why she keeps tickling the bottom of my right ribs.

Walkingonadream - I'm not sure eating the top-shelf of the bakers is filling food, I normally find I'm hungry 30mins later after a croissant for example as it just doesn't fill me up but provides me with the sugar kick I'm craving. Have you thought about trying to make a fruit smoothie or something to give you some sustained energy? or snacking on nuts. Gosh now I sound like my OH whoops, sorry.

Toothfairy - sorry you didn't get your sweep, won't be long now though so don't be disheartened :) x

Trina & Moneysavingmumma - sounds like things are starting to happen for you soon :D x

MoneysavingMama - I've had those exact same aches and pains since 31wks. You're right, there's no way I could exercise with them, I just have to grab hold of something and try and breathe them out. My goodness they hurt though.

Kerri - great news, glad your little princess is doing well.

Walkingonadream - Glad you've said that. I seem to be permanently hungry no matter what I eat and I cook good, healthy meals every night plus snack on fruit. Have woken a few times around 4am feeling so empty that I've had to go and make tea and toast! Plus I seem to be craving chocolate since 35wks. Have already got through a Xmas Roses tin although I swear I did share. :)

10 days left - eek! Excited and nervous at the same time. I'm not worried about labour at all, just in denial that I'm so close!
