The medical bods are as keen as me that I avoid a C section, as my recovery would be much slower than for a 'normal' person, but I'm really concerned/realistic that I may just not have the physical resources to get through labour & delivery  As it is, I'm already practically on bed rest and still get to the point (like last night) of weeping with fatigue :o
I've had two full term births both after suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum for the entire pregnancy and both were unassisted vaginal births. My MW told me after my first was born that she had been worried about how I would manage. Second time I had been in bed for almost an entire eight months and DH kept worrying beforehand (and rather unhelpfully telling me so!) but I had the loveliest birth ever so much so that I am really looking forward to giving birth again and if you would find it helpful I would be happy to PM you a copy of my birth story.

Thank you for the Statutory Maternity Pay advice :D It is so stressful trying to work out how little time I will be able to spend at home with my baby. Fingers crossed for a lottery win!

As for the bags and blankets debate we used blankets and sheets with our DD until she was big enough to go into the bags and we used them and they were great. We still got a lot of use out of the blankets though and still have some to use with baby number 2.

To those considering muslin cloths we have some but found the pack of washcloths really useful and more affordable. In fact we have just bought some for this baby too.

I got some plain cellular blankets from Aldi for £1.49 each a couple of weeks ago, not sure if they'd stille be the same price now

Can anyone recommend a type of cot mattress? I want a good quality one as we're intending that she'll be in the bed for the 4 years it's suitable for but as always there seems to be a wide variety of choice and I've no idea!

Been getting myself in a tizz about breastfeeding on demand and visitors coming in the first few weeks if she's feeding a lot. but s*d any inconvenience to them, little lady comes first  i just know my parents will be all 'she's ok, she doesn't need feeding yet, it isn't x o clock' like they was with my niece but that's not how i want to do it so a foot will have to be put down. not that i expect a fight, they are lovely.

After my fall on Monday my hips are getting worse so I've ordered a body pillow and i'm sooo looking forward to sleeping with it tonight :)

I have told friends and family that I am planning on breast feeding this time around and that it will be the most important thing to me for the first few weeks. They are welcome to visit as long as they have no issue with me feeding and take care of themselves while they are here. I have plans to make sure that the kitchen is filled with tea/coffee/cakes and biscuits so that I can sit quietly feeding while visitors see to themselves.

  • Trina - yes lol, Bury St Edmunds. I didn't check any other dates so assumed they would be similar. Wow not like me to end up lucky and not miss out.

Our Aldi doesn't open until Halloween (boo!) which is a pity as it sounds like we will have missed the baby bargains. Little man should hopefully be out before then anyway.

Wow TeamLowe you're organised - I hadn't thought about guests coming over to see baby. They had better call beforehand! Unfortunately in this house, our lounge looks into our driveway so I couldn't quickly run upstairs this time like I could/did last time. My friends/family would all text/call as they know I'm out a lot but hubby's expect me to be home all the time so prob would just turn up and expect tea, cake & cuddles! Oh well, if they haven't called to arrange, they'll have to go home. If hubby just let's them in, I'll just go upstairs to feed. :)

Been to the hospital today. Expected them to try and break my waters as discussed with Registrar at 36 weeks. Knew it may not be possible but if poss they would try. Anyway doctor today who was a man, said they'd examine me and see what's what. Anyway he was a larger bloke and his hands were HUGE:eek:
I was panicking when he was about to examine me- thought the fear might actually send me into labour lol. But to be fair he was more gentle than the midwives. Didn't hurt at all. He did a sweep and then examined tummy too.

Once I was dressed he came back and said he didn't recommend breaking waters today (although it was possible) as cervix is a bit long. So chance of successful induction without a pessary would be poor. I can't have pessary due to previous section- can put too much pressure on scar. So I'm to arrange another sweep for Friday and I'm booked into delivery suite next week for waters to be broken if baby hasn't come by then. They will use drip if necessary but no pessary.

Adrenaline/ change of plans/ sweep I don't know which but felt quite unwell by the end of it. Faint, nauseous and sore belly and back. Having a lie down now as I feel drained.

Bangton I think different quantities suit different babies! My son certainly needed a few more sleep suits/ vests/ muslins/ etc. I think we had 14 sleep suits/ vests and loads of muslins! I just didn't fancy having the washing machine on constantly. My son was also v long and slim so finding nappies to fit wasn't the easiest until he gained some weight. When my son was ill I was grateful of having plenty of spare clothing (even though at one point I think we ran out lol! How are you enjoying being a mummy Bangton? X

I've got some of my sons sleep suits/ vests and a few girly ones so wil have plenty this time around. Feels like I'm constantly washing my sons mucky clothes from nursery so hopefully the baby will just add another load or two to washing. Once I start using washable nappies there will be those too!

Jemb I suffer with SPD too :( it's so painful. I've had physio, got a support belt and tubigrib (although don't find that helps much) I find imagining my knees are tied together really helps so keeping them together when getting in/ out car, in/ out bed, etc x

Honestly, at first it was tough due to the birth I had. I really struggled, I mean REALLY! I'm getting better now though and finding it much easier. I can't believe how much I am smitten with him but that's brought with it quite a bit of anxiety. I worry about his every move, whether he's too hot or cold, his breathing, how much he eats, his cord bled - I was frantic! I have cried more than him in this last 2 weeks for various reasons :o

I'm so out of sync due to various hospital admissions - supermarket shopping, cleaning, food preparation has all been done for us by mum or sister and brothers. OH has done ALOT of baby night feeds too while I try and rest and get better so I have no routine of my own. Not that baby has one either!!!!

Baby absolutely makes my heart melt though. He snorts like a cute piglet when he needs feeding and throws his hands up when he is asleep like he is catching flies! Really, as you will know, there is no love like a mother's (and father's love)!! We left him with my sister today whilst we had a quick trot out to supermarket and I actually missed him and just wanted to be back at home!!

Long answer to that question!!! :D

Hope your feeling well now yourself KScarlet. Being ill and pregnant is no fun! I kind of miss being pregnant but in other fabulous news I am back to pre pregnancy weight. Lost alot immediately after birth but I was (and still am) flabby on my belly. In fact it all felt rather gross but now I am at least the weight I was pre pregnancy albeit with a wobbly belly that is actually quite easy to hide anyway! MY legs are thinner though - don't know if that's from holding my belly up but I am so pleased cos my legs have always been chunky!!! :D
