Now I have a few questions which I hope you lovely people may be able to help me with - as first time parents myself and OH feel a little clueless.

Sleepsuits/PJ's for baby - I am due in January, and our house is not especially warm, about 20 deg with heating on, BUT probably drops to 15 at night upstairs as we cannot leave heating on because it is so noisy we cannot sleep. We plan on putting baby in a bodysuit, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog growbag to sleep (or possibly swaddled at first if he prefers!) BUT I don't know if I should be looking at the normal cotton sleepsuits, or the thicker velour ones. Any advice?

Secondly, how many bodysuits/vests and sleepsuits should we actually get in newborn size? If it helps, I am 5ft9, and OH 5ft11, so not likely to have a tiny baby I think. We've been given lots of stuff in 0-3 months size, but they look way too big for a newborn and so we still need to buy stuff for the hospital and the first few weeks.

Can anyone advise on sensible quantities? Working on the theory that I will put a washing machine load on every 2-3 days...as have no tumble drier and will be reliant on drying things on radiators in the winter.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give :)

Welcome ellie, I am a secondary teacher too. With my first pregnancy I used to come home, eat some breadsticks and then go upstairs for a nap for a good hour I was so tired. People don't realise that teachers are lucky to get a break during the day but it is true. I have been on 70% timetable this year over 4 days so it was easier. Still in reality working about 35 hours a week but there was a balance. If you are suffering- request to be taken off break duty asap. Also our school had parents evenings from 4:30-8pm and parents were still let into the hall after 8 so I would tell the students in advance that my appts were until 7 (earlier if I only had one class of that year group) and I would need to leave at 7:15. Made a huge difference (taught 6 year groups that year) and they all understood when I explained I'd be too tired to say anything sensible.

We always used knitted cardigans with cotton sleepsuit and bodysuit for DS when he was little. Swaddled with a fleecy sheet (can't remember what fabric is called lol) and/or a cellular blanket depending on temperatures. The traditional hand-knitted cardis are soft and stretchy and I think more breathable. Also ideal with sleeping bags to keep their arms warm. We used the long sleeve bodysuits in Winter too. I do like the velour babygrows but for newborn I think cotton and a cardi is the best mix.
We have a small plug in radiator with thermostat that we got from Amazon for very cold nights. Its silent and compact and you can set temperature as low as you like. I'll try and post a link later ;)

I've just looked down at myself and for the first time during pregnancy I actually look pregnant from where I see myself. I've still got quite a neat little bump, but I'm feeling slightly overwhelmed by the fact I don't look how my head thinks I look. To my head I still have a flat stomach, but my eyes are seeing something completely different now. I just showed OH that I now have to bend to almost 90 degrees to even be able to see my lady bits without a mirror. His response "you're being a bit odd" !!!

For anyone who may be interested two other items on my Amazon history that I recommend. One is a large hooded towel that makes it easier when lifting a wet baby out the bath as it fastens behind your neck, hood at bottom. Then you place baby on you and towel lifts up like a pouch as you put hood on their head. Still use it with DS at two, but just as a large hooded towel now.

The other is a large playmat, nice and cushioned. DS was seven months at his first Christmas. This was his main gift from us. He stayed sat up on his own for the first time on Christmas day :) Lots to interact with on tummy too.

Nothing wrong with a bit of slavedriving fluffy! I have been doing the same today after pestering DH for about a week to move some bags that are too heavy for me.

Anyone else in the later stages noticed they have a few spots? I have literally not had a single one since my BFP and now have a cluster on my chin! They are usually hormone related around AF time so dont know if this is maybe common before birth?
Had quite bad cramping this morning for about 3 hours, but had a bath and it eased off :(

    38+3

Hehe thanks, DH feeling sorry for himself but I'm delighted with my garden :)
Spots can hit you at any point with hormones, before and after birth. Not suffering atm but earlier on I definitely had greasier skin and hair. One bottle of conditioner since Christmas (poss before that tbh) as I haven't needed it for most of my pregnancy.
Rang childminder to book DS in for tomorrow and her DIL has has twin girls this week. So DS's little playmate (their grandson) is now a big brother ;)

Ahh... I remember when I used to be able to bend... 37+3 now and the floor is getting further away from me. I've taken to dropping items and kicking them into place (not children/animals and only one glass... but that was purely accidental and on carpet so fine).

Congratulations to all the births! I go away for one weekend and BOOM they're popping out all over the place!

Hope things continue to get better for you Bangton, I really appreciate you sharing with us.
Obviously as a first timer I'd quite like everyone to tell me that after sneezing, a beautiful baby... that was all clean and fluffy and wide-eyed and smiley arrived in your arms... and from then on it was all rosy and cosy... but then when my big day came around I'd probably secretly hunt you all down.

Toothfairy I'm having a little flair at the moment, but I think with me it's as I'm feeling generally a bit tired and run-down and I've always struggled with flairs when I'm like that.

Welcome to all the new folk too!

Not sure why I'd like you to tell me my baby will be fluffy.

    I think I need a nap.

Congratulations to all the recent births

Rebecca Leigh was born at 0040 on 29th September by emergency c section weighing 8lb 5oz

I had an 8 day stay in hospital as Rebecca was slightly jaundice, extremely sleepy & struggled to feed from the boob & i developed an UTI & an infection on the wound, I now rattle when I walk with the amount of antibiotics I'm taking!

    So glad to to home

P.s. how do I post a pic from my iPad?
