  • Afternoon all. 41 weeks today, arghhhhh.....

Was a little annoyed this morning which i felt bad for afterwards as the other lady from antenatal class (was only 4 couples) had her baby this morning. She was due the day after me so 6 days late and here i am currently 7 days late.

As daft as it sounds im really disappointed baby wont be here in Sept, unless something happens super quick this afternoon/evening. Id just prepared myself for a sept baby after being told my due date, so all along I've been used to saying 'Sept' and is just feels weird to think Oct now.

Im also getting annoyed with the txt messages & phone calls asking if baby is here. I mean honestly do people not think we'd tell them.....i answer my phone to have people say 'what are you doing answering, you should be at that hospital'.

I know people mean well & they're all excited but it makes me feel really bad to know they're just waiting for news.

Don't see my midwife until thursday though but of course hoping i don't anyway, hahaha.

  • Cross-posted BWP, i knew someone would know more than me about how the system works. I agree it is ridiculous to have been left so long, not even sure how it could've happened as you should be in their system? My midwife usually just makes my next appt there and then for 2 weeks time.
  • Nope not seen m/w since 16 weeks, I saw a dr at about 30 weeks about a non related pregnancy problem and she took blood pressure ect ect.
I have no idea who to complain too to be honest, I did wonder if I would slip through the net as I changed to m/w not attached to my gp, so she comes from another area, (had a mmc last year at 20 weeks, had to deliver ect was handled shockingly, so wanted a clean slate as it were and new people to deal with, didn't want constant reminders) must make it harder I guess, not sure. with my first pregnancy we used to get letters telling us when our app was, never had any with this one.

Not long left though so not much they can do for me now!
Just seen this as we cross posted. I am even more apalled by your level of care given what you've just said - I had a MMC at 21 weeks and I was automatically given consultant care on a special list in my next pregnancy. I also changed MWs so am not seeing the one at my local surgery (though I changed part way through the following pregnancy) and it has not caused any difficulties with getting appointments and it should not be allowed to impact on your care in such a way! I apologise if I have come across too strongly but I am really cross on your behalf at the "care" you have been given in this pregnancy.

I would recommend contacting AIMS (http://www.aims.org.uk/) for help - I contacted them in my last pregnancy because I was told that I would have to have the MW I had moved from at my homebirth if she was on the rota when I went into labour and Beverly Beech was really helpful and wrote me a draft e-mail to send to the Chief Exec which worked wonders.

Doesn't sound daft at all to me - if you've mentally prepared yourself for a specific thing then it's bound to feel strange when it happens differently.
  • Is your new midwife not attached to somewhere? Maybe ring there and speak to reception and let them know what's happened. Your right, you are very near the end now but it's important to be getting your BP/urine etc checked, especially at this stage. I don't mean that in a lecturing way at all, just i wouldn't feel comfortable not having had any checks for the last 24 weeks.

I hope you manage to get it sorted :)

Never really found out where she is based to be honest I think I have only seen her once and then a colleague of hers at the hospital. She is classed as a community midwife, not really sure what that means though...
My bp will be fine, it was at 30 weeks as was urine, sure I would know if there was a problem.

I wouldn't even know where to start in contacting people, when I had my scare last week and thought I was in labour out of the 6 numbers I had only 2 answered!!! some do state they are only maned from 8.30am - 9.30am - guess I better have a morning labour! lol I do have a number for labour ward, which is who I rang in the end...

I feel fine in myself and baby movement is pretty good, if I felt funny or anyting I would just go see my gp she is nice :D
I need to start saving so I plan to save £2 a week to start with:beer:
  • I've just looked back and seen that you are 38 weeks! That is an absolutely apalling level of antenatal care (if you can call it care at all) to have nothing from 16 weeks to full term! At this stage I would recommend that you contact either the Head of Midwifery or the hospital Chief Executive stating that your MW has not been giving you appointments since you were sixteen weeks and that you want them to arrange an appointment ASAP with an alternative MW. I have had some pretty poor care in my time but I am still absolutely gobsmacked that you have been left so long. Alternatively, if you don't want to do what I suggested above, I would recommend you make an appointment with your GP and take a urine sample with you and get your BP checked - at this stage they should be being checked every two weeks. Your MW has been negligent in leaving you all this time!

I don't think there is another m/w locally it was hard enough to get referred to her. I live out in the sticks so not a lot of choice really.
Im not really the worrying type, I don't think its great service, but to be honest no less than I expected. They were all rubbish with first child, terrible with the mmc last year, so the fact I can never get her and there isn't a answer service (I find that the weirdest, but they reckon its not allowed incase they miss a message.....)

It will be over soon enough, I may complain then, guess I worry if I rock the boat now, they will be evil to me in labour, that's not a nice thought its hard enough without a cows of a midwife glowering at me for getting them into trouble....

A key thing they are checking for with BP/urine is pre-eclampsia as they can be early warning signs. I don't want to be scaremongery about it but by the time you get symptoms which you notice yourself it can progress pretty rapidly which is why they (are supposed to) monitor you and why they (are supposed to) monitor more frequently as you get further on. I am very much a pregnancy/birth is natural, minimal intervention type of person and have declined lots of things offered but I would still consider this to be pretty important. (I have seen people with it and seen how rapidly it can progress and seen how seriously my hospital takes it even at Christmas when they try to avoid admitting anyone unless they *really* have to.)

I hear what your saying, pre eclampsia, shouldn't be an issue due to my low bp, it hasn't gone up at all over the pregnancy, was still low last time it was checked by gp. I have rung my gp this morning but no appointments available till 5th oct as im not deemed emergency appointment... could of had it by then :) (well a girl can wish can't she)

Hmm heartburn is a really odd sensation, to me it almost feels like I've swallowed a mint whole except it lasts for hours....i can't quite decide whether I want to take anything for it, or just put up with the weirdness.

I think baby has moved from breech to lying crossways again now, either that or she's developed an extra set of arms :D
