Toothfairy[/B - Sounds like the plug to me! And yes bowel movements and vomiting are a sign of labour - both happened to me! With DD I lost my plug on the Wed morning and started labour the Thursday evening.
Bangton - Personally I will be declining a sweep if I make it to my due date. They just don't appeal to me. Here you get one offered at 40 weeks, not before. I don't mind going the 2 weeks over before induction either.
Sorry, only read one page - I'm rubbish at keeping up. Hope everyone and their bumps are well. Had another mw appointmeht this week, and everything is normal as always. Apart from the first 12 weeks, this pregnancy has been very uneventful, touch wood, but I really shouldn't moan. Baby's head is down but not in my pelvis, so I am really happy for him/her to wait until closer to 40 weeks. I really don't feel ready yet! Although DH have finally agreed on a boy's name if baby is a boy - so that's progress.

Well I'm awake
been awake for 1 1/2 he's now. I just can't seem to sleep. Doesn't help I'm getting period pains on and off. I really hope this is nothing. I'm just not ready yet! :rotfl:

Just popped on here ladies to join in the sweep discussion.
I had sweep with LO (4months now) as I was 40+3. I can't remember the exact figures but something like 50% go into labour within 48hrs. I did, about 36hrs later. It was a speedy, natural (dare I say fairly comfortable..... Although I swear that was due to the tens!) labour. Didn't feel forced or 'brought on' too early.
Think of your sweep like another way of speeding things along like a hot curry, pineapple, BDing. It feels no worse than a smear and certainly isn't like a chemical induction, which I do believe forces a very unnatural labour.
In short, if they offer a smear, i'd say just go with it.x0 -

Couldnt agree more, cant really understand why so many people are so anti sweep like your doing some sort of evil to the babyif you dont want it dont have it, but I can honestly say I have never at any point been made to feel like I will 'have' to have one.
I already know I will be able to have sweeps before my due date for similar reasons to fluffysox. DS was a big baby and this one is measuring big as well so consultant has said I can have sweeps early, obviously no guarantee that they will work but i'm hoping they do and it will help me have a natural labour.
And quite frankly with the amount of pain I am in on a daily basis, I will be glad to get this baby out!Biggest Loser Weight Loss: 13 / 20 lb0 -
I thought I'd lost my plug yesterday too tooth fairy but now I'm not sure. My period pains are coming and going, not as strong as before but have been taking paracetamol for a headache so it might have numbed them.
I'm probably in the deluded camp but I actually feel like I'd quite like bubs to arrive now! Really uncomfortable and can't believe how tired I'm getting doing basic tasks. I'm sure the latter will still be true post arrival but at least I won't be walking around with a bowling ball shoved up my top! 37+30 -
I'm not against a sweep and certainly don't think it harms baby I just don't want one. I think my baby will arrive when he is ready be it now or at 42 weeks but I am blessed in that I aren't uncomfortable. . Whilst I want to meet my baby I'd quite like him to stay until my due date anyway purely and selfishly so my house is finished. If I was struggling I'd be open to it. The only reason I asked about it really is because my midwife advised I would be given one at 40 weeks as though that meant it was a necessity. . Especially when they reference the placenta starting to pack in. My 40 week appointment is Wednesday and while it's still a bit off I wanted to gage what might happen as it wasn't something my midwife was fussed about discussing as she was behind last time I saw her and probably wondering why I was asking at 38 weeks!! I was desperate for one with DS2 and they wouldn't do it till 40+6! I knew he was going to be a big baby (even though they seemed to think he wasn't, goodness knows why because when I look at my measurements I was measuring above the line where they should have referred me for a growth scan). Probably wouldn't have made any difference but can't help but wonder whether that extra weight he would have gained in the week he was overdue contributed to him getting stuck, which was what I feared with my tiny frame and a 6ft 2 husband.
Re. the placenta, my babies seem to accelerate in growth in the last couple of weeks so pretty sure mine was still functioning well after 38 weeks!0 -
Congratulations an9i77!
In antenatal classes we've been told that 'normal' gestation is anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks, and it's only after 42 weeks that your placenta may start to struggle/fail (I suppose logically this makes sense, because of the size of the baby dependent on it at that stage!) and you'll require close monitoring.
Personally, I'm going to decline any sweeps/induction until 41 weeks unless I have any other reason to have one any sooner (pain, risk) - after 41 weeks I think it's fair enough to want to help baby make a move!
I'm hoping I don't get to the point of needing to be induced - hoping it's not hereditary as I was 2 weeks late and so was hubby!!
Hope everyone's looking forward to the weekend! We've gone from having no plans to having completely full days! It's going to be exhausting! People keep wanting to see me "once more to catch up before the baby comes" and I'm too nice to say actually I'm knackered all the time, I'd rather see you in a month when baby is here!!

Hi everyone,
Just had my 36wk appointment today and asked about when I would discuss a birth plan of some sort... I was met with a blank look, followed by a suggestion that someone might do it at my 38wk appointment but only if I booked a double appointment.
I was then told by the receptionist that I might have to wait 3 weeks until there was a free appointment to be had...
Let's hope I'm not early and last until week 40, otherwise who knows what I'll be doing and where I'll be doing it.
!!
Rant over, back to work... *twiddles thumbs*0
