  • Tens machine - pointless and likely to irritate me... But that's not actual medical knowledge!
I used a TENS machine a little bit last time (until I got in the pool) and I thought it was just a bit irritating/distracting and not actually doing anything useful until I took it off at which point I realised it had been doing something and hurriedly had DH reattach it to me. I'm not sure I would consider it worth going out of my way to have one again but if it was there and available anyway I might use it.
  • Mine has been buying painkillers. Hubby has needed them for a bad back and then a sore toe. We actually ended up at minor injuries unit at our hospital for his toe it was causing him that much pain.

So of course I've been getting paracetamol and ibuprofen for him. As I've gone through self serve check outs of course I have to get the okay to be allowed to buy them but then I've had two women feel the need to tell me I can't take ibuprofen whilst I am pregnant.
I suppose they probably have to tell you but you would think it would cross through their minds that a pregnant women might have a partner they buy stuff for.

This is a planned and very much wanted LO but it hasn't stopped the anxiety or the OMG-what-have-we-done moments, especially as I've had quite a difficult pregnancy with hyperemesis and hypermobility issues.
Are you still suffering from hyperemesis? If so, you might find Pregnancy Sickness Support helpful - there's lots of information on the website plus a forum. (If not, you might still find it useful and it has lots of information about planning future pregnancies and making sure you will get the right treatment - hopefully you already have had good treatment but sadly it is uncommon.) I'm on my fourth pregnancy with hyperemesis so am clearly insane!

    Hi all,

Just dropping in to say Hi. Got a friends house warming tonight which I'm quite looking forward to. Also got my physio referral for 10th October, yay.

I can sympathise with everyone who's emotions are all over the place - my husband keeps telling me I'm miserable and everytime I tell him I'm tired he just says 'you're always tired' in a really arsey way. You'd have thought he'd have understood by now, we're on no.3 :(

Congratulations to the ladies who have delivered this week and good luck for your induction on Tuesday Helen. Fingers crossed it happens quickly.

Can someone give me some info about these baby shows that keep being mentioned. I'm in the NW and have never been to one before but quite fancy just going and having a mooch when OH gets his bonus. I know they sometimes offer good discounts but what sort of percentage are we talking?

Hope everyone has a good weekend

The mw I saw last time (not my usual mw) was lovely, she asked if we had thought about feeding, we said we'd had a good think and decided to go with FF, she just wrote that down in my notes and signed it off. Her words were she could tell we hadnt decided that because we thought it was easier, and there would be no point her telling us what we would already know about BF. Was pleasantly surprised, I thought perhaps she would have had to go through more with us, but I suppose they are a good judge of people and know when they need to provide more info and when they don't.

  • At our ante-natal class when they talked about feeding they said they'd like people to consider and try breastfeeding but to them the most important thing was "happy mum, happy baby" so no to beat yourself up over whatever decision you made.
I really want to breastfeed and I suppose I consider myself lucky in that at present I've not come across any professional who have been particular advocates either way, but I can imagine that it must be horrendous to be put under pressure at a time when you're at your most vulnerable anyway.

Snap im off to a house warming tonight too, but in Cardiff. There's a baby show in Manchester or there's the nec but that's not until next year now. They normally offer on the day promotional discounts, haven't been before but shall report back in October. Weve been told the pushchair we want will be at the k1ddisave stall and to mention we emailed in advance for additional discount. Although hoping to get the sample one they have there as ou can normally pick them up half rrp. I know the bumg3nius nappies we want we can get for £200ish at the show, whereas they're £285 elsewhere. Going to check everything on my phone before we buy though.

  • Does anyone have any recommendations for slings/baby carriers. Both DH and I like the look of the Connecta Integra, however I'd really like something I would be able wear while breastfeeding, and not sure how suitable this would be? I quite like the look of the Moby wraps too, but DH isn't keen and I don't think he would wear it. We don't have a lot of money to spend so buying both isn't an option - I've been looking out for 2nd hand but even then they can be pricey. No sling library near by unfortunately so can't go along to try them out.
We have both a stretchy wrap and a SSC although not those particular ones and personally I've never succeeded at breastfeeding in either. I know that some people manage it but I found it too complicated and once mine got a bit bigger there's no way they would have fed in a sling anyway as they'd be too distracted by everything going on round about them. I think it's possible to breastfeed with the baby in most slings but it's a skill and I think you really just have to try it and see whether you can rather than base your sling choices on it. If you can't afford both, I would recommend having the moby for the first 3-4 months and then selling it and replacing with a connecta as I'd say a stretchy wrap is probably easier with a newborn but when they get bigger you need something with less give. DH is less keen on the wrap because of the tying but I had him choose the colour (navy blue) and he did use it fairly happily although he became much more zealous about babywearing once we got a SSC.

Well, crazy hormonal lady has returned... OBVIOUSLY I need to mope about and randomly cry today because DH just doesn't love me or want to spend time with me anymore. How has he manifested this? Through not wanting to go out with me last night (when he was knackered from work), letting me have a stupidly long lie-in this morning and taking an excessively long phone call in his office *sigh* I know I'm being completely unreasonable, but honestly, I could still just sob.

ETA: He also hasn't bought milk like he promised, so I'm drinking rubbish redbush tea rather than rubbish decaf tea like I wanted! WOE IS ME!!!
