When did/are you planning on writing your birth plan? Not sure how far along I should be before I sit down and write it out.

I think the MW goes through it with you at 30 weeks roughly (well they do here) it's good to have a rough idea of what you want but my actual birth was basically everything opposite to my plan so I don't think I'll even bother this time x

Think I did mine at about 35 weeks with DS. Wont be doing one this time though.

Almost 35 weeks and haven't done or discussed a birth plan. Then again I was six weeks late for my gtt so I get missed a lot. I visit birth centre in a week so think I do it there but don't really have anything in my plan that must happen. Until I know the pain I won't rule anything out although I'll try to do it off my own back with nothing!
  • We are getting a crib for baby to sleep in in our bedroom. Have seen lots of bedding sets with bumpers, blanket etc. Are bumpers advised/necessary?
When DD1 was a baby the advice was no cot bumpers because of cot death but when I read up more recently (last year), I found that the advice had changed to say that they don't pose the theoretical cot death risk that was thought but that they shouldn't be used once the baby can stand because of potential strangulation risk. We currently have one on the cot because LO kept waking herself up in the night by banging into the cot sides but never had/needed one for DD1.

Morning all, just to let you know that Atticus Charles arrived safely at 8.57pm on Saturday 24th August. Sudden onset of pre-eclampsia meant he was an induced hospital birth rather than the spontaneous home delivery we'd hoped for but it was still a lovely birth experience and very speedy too. Waters broken at 7.15 by crazy Linda from OBEM (surreal!), No pain relief, no stitches just a beautiful little boy. Home now and we're all besotted with him. Have been up ALL night with him getting milk going but he's so worth it!
Congratulations - I'm glad you were still able to have a positive birth experience even though it wasn't exactly as you'd planned.
  • Congratulations on your engagement Helen and I'm sorry your ring doesn't fit. I haven't worn my wedding ring for seven years now because I lost so much weight in my first pregnancy that my fingers got thinner and DH is convinced that women's fingers get fatter from pregnancy and that therefore my fingers will suddenly grow at some point so he won't agree to getting it shrunk.
  • I did a birth plan of sorts with midwife at 35 weeks. All it said really was DH as birthing partner, I want a water birth if possible (only one pool at our hospital), as little drugs/pain relief/intervention as possible but will listen to all advice at the time and may reconsider, baby to get vitamin K injection, I want injection to deliver afterbirth, and DH doesn't want to cut cord but may change his mind at the time.

All the midwife insisted I have in there was who my birthing partner will be, and yes or no to the injections. Took all of five minutes. I don't see point in putting everything I would like to happening there or spending ages doing one, as it may all change on the day anyway.
  • I have my dating scan on Wednesday and I'm really nervous. I wish it was possible to just skip forward to going into labour and miss out the rest of pregnancy.
  • Birth plans: first pregnancy my MW went through mine with me at 38 weeks, next time I got far enough to need a birth plan the MW thought that asking me if I wanted to keep the placenta and asking how I planned to feed the baby was doing the birth plan. I actually did my first and twenty something weeks and the second I did a draft before TTC and then refined it nearer the time. This time I just need to modify the one for last time so I'll just do it if/when I get into the twenties again.

Congrats Courgette - you did check that there weren't any TV cameras around didn't you?:)

Lovely night out last night with friends although didn't win at the casino :(.

Friend arrived with a nappy cake a bit like this one.

    http://www.nappycakeshop.co.uk/3-tier-bath-time-yellow-nappy-cake-p-665.html

Includes 34 nappies, toy, baby toiletries & a bottle of wine (and other stuff). She has also bought a monitor for us. A very generous friend!

OH has unexpectedly had to go out for the afternoon so planning a little potter around local shops & then chilling (as directed!). I'm trying to get my head into the 'do very little' zone.

Nursing chair that we were given over the weekend is now is in the baby's room & is very comfy.
