I use reusables on my LG and will do with bump. We don't have any incentives, my best friend works for the council refuse department and she said it has been mentioned, but they don't give a toss about trying to reduce. They say they do, but they are just paying lip service to it really!!

I've got loads of birth to potty (btp) nappies, but they don't really fit properly until the baby is about 10lbs depending on the nappy and the baby so I have bought some newborn size ones. I have some totsbots teenyfits, bumgenius newborns and some lil joeys.

yumyums do you have a nappy library close by? Saves you buying all different ones, they can lend you some and you can see which works best, but I would say as baby grows the nappies migth not fit as well. I found some of them stopped working as well, whereas some I didn't use much because they didn't really fit started fitting better!!

If you are on fb join the Cloth Bum Mums group they'll give you advice and there are loads of selling sites as well selling preloved nappies and accessories.

Hi all, hope everyone's alright. Had a quick scan through. I've got a nearly 3 yo so I fully empathise with those finding it tough going. I think I'm lucky that mine is a little older so I can explain to him that I need to rest and he kind of gets it. He knows for example that after we've had lunch it's time for mummy's rest and for him to watch something on the kindle.

I've also found a nice little website called The Imagination Tree which has a lot of ideas for independant play for toddlers - my DS's favourite is small world play where basically I put something in a tub like lentils or beans or snapped up spaghetti and put some diggers in and some little figures, get his imagination going with some ideas about what could be happening and he'll play quite happily for quite a while.

Tomorrow I'm going to put a load of shaving foam in a tub for him and hide some figures inside it. Maybe it'll turn into a hairdressers or maybe a ski slope, I'll let him work it out.

MV - your garden looks okay to me. Could you get a little paddling pool and either put water in it or shredded newspaper or similar? Or what about some boxes and pretend they're boats? I've forgotten how old he is - is he 3 in Jan? Or have I made that up?

I love reading stories to DS2 and he loves to listen to them so we often use that as a starting point for some role playing. Could you use his favourite programme as a starting point?

Hope some of that is helpful and it's really not long to go now!

Thanks courgette, all good ideas. I'll try the shaving foam one for sure.

We do have a paddling pool, but again he gets bored of it really quickly, and I just can't face hoofing up and down the back stairs with loads of stuff only for him to say 'wanna go inside' within 5 mins!

You're right, he will be 3 in Jan. He's at that stage though where I can't really communicate with him. He doesn't understand me, and although he is putting short sentences together, he can't communicate what he wants, so often he'll just whinge and whine at me and I have absolutely no idea what the matter is :(

Today has been pretty c rappy if I'm honest. It's felt like it's gone on forever, and I have felt bored and frustrated myself so God only knows how bored he's been.

Cannot wait for OH to walk in the door at 6.45. I am officially OFF DUTY then and can plan what takeaway I want tonight!

Thanks lola. Luckily everything I bought has either been cheap on ebay or in the sales so haven't spent much at all. Will look into the nappy library. From what stage do you plan on using cloth? I gather you should wait until after the meconium is all gone and also the umbilical cord stump has come off?

I'm gonna use them when we get home from the hospital, I have some lil joeys that have a fold down to stop them rubbing on the stump. I think either the totsbots teenyfits or the bumgenius newborn also have a snap down, but I can't remember which one.

I know some women use them straight from the off, the meconium just washes off, but I don't fancy lugging loads of dirty nappies home as I remember my LG did 3 dirty nappies within the space of 1 hour when I was in hospital with her. I was in overnight so that would be quite a few nappies I'd have to pack and bring home.

With my LG I began using them when she was about 1 mth old I think. I had so many free packets of newborn nappies I didn't need to buy any!

I'm in love with my double Nipper at the moment (shouldn't really be in here but I heard the words double pushchairs and I spend far too much time chopping and changing what I use in that department). I've got a side by side stroller fold cosatto and mamas and papas one as well (the cosatto I sent to live at my mums cos it was too blooming pink for me in the end) and my eldest (only 16 months but very tall and in 2-3years clothes) does look slightly squished in it but seems happy enough - she looks really comfortable in the Nipper.

I'm hoping for a bit of advice...

My mum wants to come stay with me for a while, up to a month, to help out (she lives abroad). When would be the best time to get her to come? I'm 38+2 today.

    Options are:
Have her here soon to help me get things ready. She can also look after the house if I have to stay in hospital (but then if I go overdue she won't have much time with the baby)

Have her come when the baby's born but then will this intrude on the time when my husband and I are getting to know our new baby while he's on leave? Same issue could apply if she comes before the baby's born.

Have her come when he returns to work and I'm on my own for the first time? What would you all do?

yumyums - I'd probably opt for the last one, I think the first bit of time at home should be mostly just mummy and daddy and baby if possible. But it depends how keep your mum is to be there when bubs is newborn. If she'd be upset by being asked to wait until OH is back at work, then maybe the first option would be better and get her over ASAP so she doesn't outstay her welcome for too long when baby has arrived.

I suppose it really depends upon your relationship with your mum and how well your OH gets on with her, and when would be the next time that your mum would be able to come over. If it would be a while until you see her again, and if you all get on well then maybe come over once baby is here, but depends how you all feel about it.
