Grrr can't sleep! Seem to wake up at this time every night now.
Is it true that you can defer entry to school until the term after your child's 5th birthday?
They are not legally required to be in school til the term after they turn 5. (Year 1) However the best schools are oversubscribed so most people get them into the preschool to help ensure they get a place at chosen school. I know it works out simpler and more cost effective for some parents to keep the child in same private nursery until start of year 1 as nurseries operate longer hours but most people I know use childminder / grandparents to look after little ones around preschool / reception hours.
If you are thinking of keeping little one at home with you, that is your choice but tbh by 3 they need so much stimulation you would appreciate the routine of half day at preschool. And they learn so much playing with other children. I was shy as a child so my DS has been taken to every group going- and his time at childminders has really given him confidence to mix, as I'm not there.2016 MFW OPd £2000, 2015 MFW OPd 3000 then bought new bigger house with bigger mortgage.Beautiful boys born May 2011 and October 2013

sorry, just delurking to say that not all schools have attendance at the nursery as part of their oversubscription criteria - in the area I work in the nurseries use a different set of criteria (can use address of carers for working out distance) so acceptance to the nursery doesn't even give an indication of whether you'd get into the school.
It's obviously a long way off but I just thought I'd say as I've seen a lot of disappointed parents at appeal who have to change caring arrangements and their child is not going to school with their friends, it's heartbreaking for them.
Oh and if you do want to defer the start date for your child's school then double check with your area when you need to apply - usually you have to apply as if they were starting in September then defer the place.Little Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

Ah I thought it was more like they would just wait an extra year in pre school and start reception when they turned 5 rather than start straight off in year 1.
My LO is only due end of September but I must admit if he/she came early I would worry about him/her having to start in reception at barely 4.0 -

I've written my letter but I've got no bloody envelopes. Or stamps. Why can't I do it via email? That would be so much easier!
Thank you, as long as its done within 4 weeks I wont mind! But I shall be all twitchy and nervous until I hear back :rotfl:
I am a late August baby and it did me no harm

Afternoon all - an eventful morning here. Went to see midwife for my 39 week check, after a good prod about at my belly she was concerned that baby may have turned breech so she asked another midwife to come in for a second opinion and she agreed! Cue me being sent to Maternity Assessment Unit for an emergency scan. Obstetric Registrar and another midwife also thought breech and were very surprised when scan showed otherwise - thank God! Baby is so deep into my pelvis that they couldn't feel any head or neck and therefore what they thought was a bum down the bottom is actually a shoulder. Anyway - it's now a waiting game for a normal delivery... been booked in for a sweep a week on Wed if I haven't gone before hand.
I was a late Aug baby (31st) but as we are in Scotland it was irrelevant as our cut off is end Feb, so my brother who's 28th Feb was v young for his year.

Congrats Girlzmum!
Having a really down and fed up day today. Totally fed up with everything! Fed up that I still have 6.5 weeks to go, fed up being skint (work still messing me around with my SMP, was due to get paid on friday and still nothing in the bank and no one returns calls or emails) DH is trying his best but still driving me mad!
collected crib from my mums house on Friday, my sister ordered it ages ago for delivery there as we don't really have the room. Asked my sister to check it over when it arrived to make sure all bits are there etc, but she never bothered and when we went to check it yesterday, two bits of wood are cracked. So now I have that to try and sort out too. Sister can't even remember where she ordered it from apparently. Grr.
Only thing cheering me up is a very active bean today, am just lying on sofa watching my tummy move around in weird and wonderful positions!
Sorry for moaning, hope everyone is having a better day!0 -
Hi b2b, sorry to hear you're fed up, moan away though we all feel the same way from time to time.
I'm just really tired now! I keep wishing the baby would just come now and DH tells me off saying she still needs to finish 'simmering'. Just went to the supermarket and need a nap now!
Hope everyone is well.

B2B - frustrating when you have asked someone to do something. Must admit I keep thinking that it's not good to buy too early unless everything gets taken out & checked.
Took a day off work today - whooping cough jab & midwife appt this morning. Dentist this afternoon - not an ideal day off.
Asked my Mum if she wanted to look at cots today - then found out that her & Dad were looking after a 2 year old. So it was a slow process!
Didn't find one I liked - well there was one in M&P for £800! The room has a pine wardrobe already so trying to match with that.0 -
Hi all,
I've been lurking for a while, thought I'd better introduce myself!
I'm 27+3 with my second child. I'm due on 1st November. My DD is 10 years old, so quite an age gap.
I am finding being pregnant this time around a whole different experience! As people keep reminding me, I'm not as young as I was then (I'm soon to be 34)!
I wanted to ask how you and your OH's have been finding choosing names? With my DD, I always knew that I would call her what I did. With this baby (it's another girl), I have no idea! Think my OH is getting pretty frustrated with us not having a name yet. He emails me lists of names, but I've just not taken to any. I have a few names that I like, but none that I love iyswim.. I feel like every time he suggest a name, I'm quashing his dreams ha ha. Have you and your OH's agreed/disagreed at all? Do you have a chosen name now?
