Anyone been refused dental treatment when pregnant?

I had some work done about 2 weeks ago and pain returned when eating and brushing my teeth so went back to the dentist yesterday. They want to x-ray but won't cos of being pregnant and think I need root canal and then a crown.

However removing the filling and re doing it so they say will be constant so not worth doing it until after I have the baby. The pain isn't horrible, it's just dull when I eat and brush my teeth and does hurt when I floss, just hoping it stays like this, can't be doing with constant tooth ache until the end of September.

i would say girl as that looks like 3 lines to me...

Really? I was "x-rayed" while pregnant. In the begining of the second trimester if I remember correctly. Apparently the radiation is the same as standing in front of a microwave.

  • I thought it was odd to not x-ray when I am 31+3.

When I went 2 weeks ago or so now I saw a different dentist who was going to x-ray but then the assistant said, you're pregnant aren't you (apparently she couldn't tell) at which then the dentist said 'we can't x-ray then'.

So my filling was removed, cleaned out as an infection had started, then antibiotic cream was put inside my tooth and then a new filling put in.

When I went back yesterday it was my normal dentist who said the same thing re an x-ray. I find it odd, especially at this stage of my pregnancy.

It is perfectly safe to have dental xrays while pregnant as none of the radiation reaches the baby. However, it is at the dentist's discression whether they do it or not. A lot dont as it is a concern that if the baby is born with some sort of abnormality some ladies may assume it was caused by the radiation and want to sue!

Sounds like you are needing a root canal continualdiamond, they are not generally recommended during pregnancy as it involves cleaning out infection from the nerve which can enter the bloodstream. However, if you were in a lot of pain it can be done rather than leave you in agony.

    Hope that helps a bit.

Good afternoon, thought I'd pop on and say hi! I posted a couple of times on the less than 12 weeks thread, but haven't for a while.
    I'm 20+1 with boy/girl twins :j(had the scan yesterday), due 10th December.
    I have 2 kids already, a daughter age 10 and a son who's 7, and they're over the moon, especially as they're now getting a baby each:rotfl:.
Unfortunatley, both babies are currently lying transverse, with the girl on top of the boy, bunk bed style, which is very uncomfortable - there are heads and bums and limbs all over the place, and the girl is very active (the poor sonographer was struggling to get pics of her heart yesterday as she wouldn't lie still long enough!).
On the plus side, both babies are healthy, strong, and spot on size-wise for dates (both the right size for a singleton at this stage:eek:) - I dread to think how big I'm going to get!
Anyway, just thought I'd come say hi.:)

I've just caught up on the past few days and was expecting someone to have given birth since the 22nd!

Girlzmum - hopefully you're cradling your beautiful bundle right now and can now chill out with the reduced summer temperatures.

TTC40 - please could you link me to the 167 essentials needed for a newborn. I don't think I saw the link when reading.

The ladies talking about changing their knickers...this has me confused as to why? I am only 17w though so might not have experienced this yet. If this is something I have to "look forward to" I might invest in some more cotton pants from Next as I may run out using 3-4 a day! eep...I knew I joined this thread too early :)

I think you have it to look forward to! My black knickers are all grey from washing too much. The discharge is sooooooooo bad and I think added sweat makes it even worse.

Who said pregnancy was sexy huh.

There is NOTHING remotely sexy about pregnancy!

How am I going to get to heaven?,

This is the list I have - although google will throw up others.

Bargain car seat picked up at Boots today from yesterday's order. Carrycot & pram also arrived. All still boxed in the garage - may look later!
