I recently switched to the Halifax's Reward Account for the £5 a month reward, not knowing about the £1 per day if I went over drawn.
Anyway, unusually for me I did go overdrawn without realising it for 7 days while on holiday last month. I transfered the money back in from savings and thought no more about it until seeing the £7 change this month.
So I made a quick phone call at 22:30hrs to the online support team and after explaining the situation and a short wait while the lady no doubt checked with her supervisor I was advised that the charge would be waived on this occasion and the money would be back in my account in a few days.
Now I can go for that curry this Friday.

As the old saying goes...if you don't ask you don't get. Well done!!0 -
Hey. I put a claim in with Natwest for £1500 and got an offer letter today for £1027. I called the bank to say i wanted the full amount or id take it further and the woman said basically that all interest in claims is ignored as they only pay out on the actual bank charges not the interest. So my offer excludes the interest and its the only offer they will give me and if i take it to court i wont get anymore. Is this true about the interest? if it is i'll accept the £1027 but i hope she didn't lie to me just so i wouldn't take it further!0

It is on the interest bit but that is repayable on the conclusion of the OFT test case issues.
If you accept the amount it is not a full and final settlement of the whole of your complaint, just the financial hardship bit.0 -

So if i take the £1027 now and then later down the line its found that the banks are unfair etc they will give me the rest of the £500 they owe from the interest??0 -

I originally made a claim back in june thanks to mse. i phoned for a list of charges and recieved it within 3 days. my charges totalled £920.my reply to my actual claim was a letter saying the claims were on hold etc etc, but to fill in this financial statement to see if they could help. i decided to leave it, as, heavily pregnant had other things on my mind and didnt think id get anywhere. then, in august, they charged me £50 one day (hsbc always write to tell me what they are charging and its usually 28 days later the charge goes out). i telephoned them to ask if they would kindly refund this as it would leave me skint for the week otherwise, and having done this on a number of occassions before and they have, i thought id try my luck. so, after getting passed aroung a few different departments, and completeing a financial statement over the phone, the man kindly said he would happily refund the £50 to me that day, and send me an offer letter of £870. Icouldnt believe my luck, id only phoned to ask - beg - for £50, and they were paying me the whole £920! I recieved the offer the next day (!), and the money cleared my account 2 days later. It happened that i was facing eviction that week, so it couldnt have come at a better time. So im extremely happy with hsbc! thank you!Everyone who thanks me when ive helped will get a 5% share when I win this weeks Euromillions......:p0

Bank: NatWest
Amount Reclaimed: £900
Amount Received: £1,300
In a matter of 4 months NatWest has claimed £900 in charges for NOT paying things on my account which would have taken it less than £10 overdrawn. Even when I had put cash into the account on a day that a cheque was presented and being reassured that the cheque would clear, they still bounced it and charged me £38.
I am on benefit of £45 a week and can just about cover my living expenses - but cannot afford to pay NatWest what was getting on for £220 a month in charges for NOT paying things. I cancelled all Direct Debits and refused point blank to pay another penny into their bank until they sorted the mess. After a few letters where they tried to wriggle out of it I managed to get them to admit that their actions were unreasonable and causing me financial hardship and they refunded the amount, plus interest and compensation.
Meanwhile I opened an account with another bank and got a letter confirming that all Direct Debits and Standing orders had been cancelled. Ironically, this month I received a statement with another £38 charges because they didn't pay a Direct Debit for £7 which went through TWO WEEKS AFTER THEY TOLD ME ALL HAD BEEN CANCELLED! As I hadn't used that account for three months, other than to withdraw the refund payment, I have now written and asked them to delete this charge and close the account.
I am waiting to hear from Lloyds Bank who did the same over a six year period and that claim runs into thousands of pounds.
Thank you to this site for giving me the confidence and courage to make a stand against these banks.
ETA: I was told by the bank that by accepting their offer now, if it turns out following the outcome of the court case, that I should have been paid more - then I will get the difference refunded to me.0 -

I have claimed charges back from Abbey. Thet send me a letter on the 14th April 2009 that they where waiting for the court to decide in these matters, therfor not doing anything with my claim for the moment. Has the court already ruled in that case and what should I do next?0
