  • They did not include totals of money owed to family.
I have written to the bank, again with a template letter, asking for the charges to be stopped, and offering a token payment of £1 per month, but charges of 180 were applied to my account in September, I am waiting to see if they put more on in October, my guess is they probably will.
Will now be out until later this afternoon, so I will read your answer then, again, many Thanks for your help!

    What were the charges for?

I am struggling at the moment because of there being no visible debts apart from the bank account to get an argument to go against their decision and I am desperately trying to find one because you have a minus figure on income and expenditure and I can't find the financial hardship.

  • Is it only granted on visible debts then? Surely financial hardship means not having enough money to live on, I'm presuming this is yet another loophole by the banks to avoid paying out!

Please can you answer the question because visible debts mean you can prove financial hardship. I want to prove you are in financial hardship but if they are debts to friends then that is unfortunately not covered within the financial hardship waiver annex 2 on financial hardship.

  • If you mean credit cards etc unfortunately I do not. The only debt I have is the £780 overdraft on my account with Natwest, does that count?

what were the £180.00 charges for? You wouldn't get that for £780.00 overdraft

  • The charges were for exceeding the overdraft and unpaid direct debits before I cancelled them all.

  • Virgin Finance car insurance, life insurance with Norwich Union, a contact with Three mobile phone and BT and boots contact lens scheme.
Because they had taken out so many charges the month before, none of my pension was left to pay these.

ok, what caused the charges in the first place to escalate. ie what lifestyle event meant that you did not have the funds available to pay the bills?
Are your finances over extended? Or did something occur which meant that the income you had went down?
