I followed this plan (green/red) in 2006 and lost 21lbs in 10 weeks.
I was 8 years younger then so it was probably 'easier' - now i am in the Peri-menipausal stage, so it might be more difficult. 1st weigh in tonight so will let you all know how i get on.

So far today i have had:
    2 ww yoghurts + blueberries
2 ww toast + small tin of Mackerel in brine, salad leaves/salad cream

No idea what plan i'm following!!!

As you haven't had any potatoes/pasta etc. yet then you could easily make it Red (Original) if you stick to meat/fish with leaves/veg for your supper. Then you'd be allowed extra HEXs if you wanted them. If you decided you did want the carbs later then you could do EE but no more HEB although you have your HEA left.
  • Well done on some fab losses people.
    Good Luck tonight Jill.

    Hello,

I've just joined SW as an online member - my nearest groups are not convenient at all timewise - and have a question about managing the diet when traveling, both on aeroplanes and on the ground.
    1. Do you select any special meals for the flights? (I have 4 flights next week, 2 of which are over 12 hours so I will need to accept the food!)
    2. How do you manage the Syns when abroad? I am heading to Japan, so rice and fish not a problem, but it's impossible to know exactly what you're eating when you're not in control of the cooking! My travel schedule is generally 2 weeks per month away, all over the world, so can't count on a cultures naturally healthy diet all the time. I was offered a Bacon Milkshake in Denver last month for example.

All advice gratefully received, SW's website is completely silent on the matter.

Edited to add some context for you!

I'm 32 year old, male and weigh 21stone at the moment with a BMI of 38.

Ok - this is what I would do ;)

Where possible base all your meals when away on fruit/veg/salad plus lean meat/fish. Drink bottled water/diet soda where possible avoiding the alcohol (which will help you on the aeroplane too with jetlag/dry skin etc)

For the plane - if you have space to take healthy snack with you stock up on Alpen Lights (will think up other items when my brain works..) & eat instead of peanuts, crisps & other naughties ;)

Take fruit for the airport (though I know you won't usually be able to take fresh produce through security/on the plane because of cross contamination between countries). Possibly vegetarian meals may be healthier on flights - but that's a bit hit & miss - you may just have to 'flexi' syn your flights (i.e. stay in control & be aware of what you're eating but don't worry about going over syn allowances) & where possible opt for wholemeal (or brown) sandwiches if nothing else.

Try & avoid buffet's in hotels or only go up ONCE filling your plate with veg/salad before anything else.

I'm sure other people will have some good idea's too.

Good luck (& I'd kill for a job that sent me around the world! :D )

    C xx

Edit: If you stay in hotels with gyms/swimming pools then use them! Make the most of the "body magic" opportunities (obviously depending on the hours you work!) - it'll help with jetlag & help you sleep well. If no gym/pools see if you can get out for a 30 minute walk every evening/morning & build up time and/or distance as those lbs melt away ;) Oh & try to take stairs rather than lifts/escalators & walk in the airport instead of the travelator ;)

If in the future you fancy taking up jogging take a look at Couch to 5k (aka c25k) podcasts on the NHS website. I'm just about to start this when I get back from holiday & I'm still over 5 stone overweight - you can just take it a your own pace

Great advice thank you, it's the alcohol in the lounge and on board that I can never resist, though I know I should - the same goes for the cheese and wine for dessert on board.

I can rummage up fruit easily enough as well at the airport, which I hadn't thought of previously -and will make a concerted effort to focus on this.

In short my will power is awful, and I'm fine at home and work when I can control what is put in front of me, but put temptation in front of me and I'll take the creamy pasta, gin, cheese, too many bread rolls, oh another gin, dessert wine, gin and champagne thank you very much.

I used to think that, now I relish being at home with my wife and toddler, in my own timezone - it gets old quickly. :rotfl:

Lol! Well gin won't do you too much harm, but maybe limit it to business dinners and ONLY use diet mixers ;)

I know ALL about temptation - it's my biggest problem too - but you feel amazing afterwards knowing you could have gone all out & instead you've lost 0.5lbs that evening! (They all add up!) lol

I have a toddler too & hubby used to work 300 miles away Monday - Friday (before she was born) so I know your wife would like you home more too. Enjoy it while it lasts, because if things change & you have to drive home in rush hour EVERY night you'll want to be back there, lol.

Do you have any old photo's of you at your desired weight? Worth keeping in your wallet to remind you what you're aiming for. Or a sepcial occasion you want to lose weight for? Maybe a couple of stone by Christmas?

You probably won't want to read it on the plane, but buy a copy of the Slimming World magazine - it often has men featured & they are very inspirational.

No photos of me at desired weight, I've been overweight since childhood, it's not a recent thing, which I think could make it harder to shift weight in the long term. I'm not a yo-yo weight sufferer, I'm just always heavy.

I went for the cheaper online membership - which doesn't have the magazine, wasn't sure it would really help or inspire me. Is it available in regular shops as well?

There's five months until the new year, so I guess I'd put in a realistic target of 3 stone by Christmas, 1.83lb per week. Am I going to be held to account now by MSE?

We're also expecting another baby in the new year, and I want to be a healthy father and set a good example. I cycle 50 -100 miles per week when in the UK (my preferred commute into London), but balance the calorie expenditure with plenty of wine and quiche. Willpower, willpower, willpower.

Could send you a SW magazine Orchard?
The men at our group all seem to do really well as they seem to have lots of willpower.
    You can do this
