Hope he enjoys it! If he's not got one already, he'll need to get a Google account (e.g. a gmail email address)

someone else mentioned that to me.
is there a reason for that?

    decision made, going for this

seems simple to navigate round and has the option to expand storage with SD slot

It will be fine Madlyn, if you have any questions can always ask here :)

Acer make a lot of tablets including ones for other big name brands, I am pretty sure they know what they are doing.

He'll need it to download apps. It also allow him to maintain all sorts of stuff online (contacts, calendar, notes, todo lists) using the Google systems.

Its free and simply to set up. Once you have your gmail email address and password you will put them into the tablet when you get it.

Then it acts like login for the Google Play Store where he will be able to download endless apps to play with, most of which have free versions (with some adverts on to pay for the app)

The Gmail account also acts like a sort of backup system for some of the information on the tablet.

Yes.. go to Google, click gmail along top, create an account top right.

After that you can access the account via Google page, it can stay logged in if you wish.

The other preparation you can make is just making sure you know your wireless router password as you will need to put that in to connect the tablet to the internet. I am sure you have had to put it into other devices at times.

It's an Android tablet, so you can probably just connect it to the computer via USB cable and simply copy films (e.g. AVI files) to the Movies folder and music (e.g. MP3s) to the Music folder. The apps that come with Android as standard will automatically check these folders. :)
  • Use Windows media player to get music on there (i.e. Rip them from a CD to mp3 format). I've never quite figured out a bullet-proof way of getting a DVD onto a phone/tablet
