    Hello everyone,

I am going on holiday shortly and wondered if I will be allowed to carry my cross stitch (with needle) in the hand luggage?

    Thank you all

    Susanna

From the Civil Aviation Authority site:

There are restrictions on what items you can take onto aircraft for reasons of safety, security and taxes. Some items are not allowed in your hand luggage and some are not allowed anywhere on the aircraft. Some items need to have the approval of the airline before you can take them on board.

Individual airports have discretion to confiscate anything they consider dangerous, regardless of whether or not it appears on the list of prohibited articles and passengers who have queries over whether something will be permitted should check with the airport and airline in question before travelling.

There used to be a blanket ban on scissors. I believe this has been relaxed but you can still be asked to leave them out of your hand luggage so I wouldn't take an expensive pair. Even the Clover cutters have been confiscated occasionally as they include a small razor blade. A dental floss container does a reasonable job of cutting thread however. I would think that a needle would be ok especially if packed with a piece of partially completed needlework but if you want to be sure then check with the airports you are using and preferably get their response in an email which you can print and take with you in case of challenge.

FOS - we definitely do have similar taste in designs then! And even pick a pair of scissors to match a design :)

Blackwork ladies were many years ago and were a series in either Needlecraft or Needlework, must be 15+ years ago

Stray cat and kittens fed (there is only me daft enough to walk a mile in the rain to feed them!) so going to venture into another cross stich cupboard and see what is in there :D

Re the needles in hand luggage - technically it's not up to the airline but the security person... I've never had needles taken from me, but they did whip a pair of scissors at Edinburgh last month. It was 6.30am though, so maybe it was bad luck.

I've also never had issues with the Clover thing...

However, there's isn't really much room on the plane to sew, so if you have check-in luggage stick it in there and do it when you arrive (hopefully in the sunshine!)

Cupboard cleared out. I have found a number of magazine cover kits that have never been started (well I think one has about 20 or so stitches) that are "free to good homes". It also includes one from new issue of Cross Stitcher, youngest nephew has declared he is "too old" at 7 :rotfl:

Soulie - I've emailed you, really sorry I missed your pm and thought I'd already emailed you. Sorry again. My silly tablet wouldn't let me write in the email or a pm, hence message on here.

FOS - love the Lizzie Kate chart. If I didnt have so much on the go and waiting I'd be tempted.

Someone asked about the kit I'm currently stitching, where it was from. Sorry but I can't remember oher than it was a seller on ebay. If I could remember I wouldn't recommend them service was awful.

Not at work today but got lots to do and scout agm tonight so not sure whether I'll manage any stitching. Haven't picked it up since Monday as I had a really bad migraine which wiped a couple of days out.

    morning all
    hope everyone is well
FOS i love that lizzie kate, it is the list i should live by, unfortunately i worry for england and fret over the most ridiculous things. I can still lie awake some nights worrying over something that was said while i was at School!!! DH thinks i will make myself ill if i dont stop but that is easier said than done. still a beautiful stitch and i am tempted if only to remind me to lighten up sometimes.

made a start on the actual bench part of the stitch last night, i really enjoyed stitching it its on linen which is beautifully sort and even. it was a pleasure to sew.

weather not brilliant so hope everyone has some stitchy time over the weekend.
