Sorry for the OT
Ruth, I've been doing it a while but still consider myself a beginner. I finally completed my 25th granny square, put them together then realised I needed way too many for a blanket, so i'm turning them into a bag for my crafty stuff :T I made a crochet case for my hooks to live in and I too am making a scarf, its a funky ribbed effect clicky I also want to make this skirt clicky when I find some suitable wool.
Back to cross stitch, i'm still waiting to hear about a location to meet for the needlecraft group so no news on that front. I really like the updates posted this week, Christmas stockings already, grrr too early for that:rotfl:

OT crochet bit...
Ooh, I like that skirt. Very different. Maybe in the future, once I've got more experience. My friend is making a throw at the moment. It's done on the diagonal, so works out from the corner and she's using variegated wool from Poundstretcher. It's looking great and she swears it's easy, so I may try that next. I don't even know what to do when I use up this ball of wool! The scarf uses two balls, so I'll need to find out how to start the next one. But I seem to be a long way off that anyway.
Back on topic (sorry stitchy girls!), there's an offer on Amazon local for the knitting & stitching show at Olympia in March if anyone is interested. £6 instead of £12.50. I might go on the Thursday, so if anyone is going and wants to meet for coffee/tea, let me know.
Never too early to stitch for Christmas. That kit has so much detail in it that it'll take a while to do-although you've made a great start already, Coxy11. I love the Dictionary of Tea too. I have stitched the Bras and have two more in my stash-boots and bags (I think!). I'd love the new coffee one, but can't justify it until I pick up a needle again.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

That's the shop, never can remember its name, husband goes for a coffee when I go there because he sezs "I say I'll just pop in"and i'am gone an hour! I don't know what he means,,,,,
I like crochet,I am doing a bedspread at the moment but it has had to go on hold while I get these dinosaurs done, the skirt is really good,my dil wood love it. Getting the tension right is the key to crochet.

I love doing back stitch, I've always finished off Mum's projects as well because she's far too impatient !0 -
the beads really set it off. I've started using beads in place of french knots - I know I'm cheating but my knots are rubbish :rotfl:0 -
Have picked up blackwork angel, not done any on this for about a year.
Not seen the smaller of the 2 smokey grey kittens for a few days, so suspect something has happened there too. Wish mother stray cat would bring her kittens to me when small enough to be tamed and have them in the house to prevent this happening.

Hi ladies.
Thanks for the welcome back
Mrsmp. Titanic is coming along great.
Coxy. That's a lovely little xmas design. Nice start you have made and I look forward to more updates.
Kez. Dictionary of Tea is brilliant, really like it.
Nmm. BD is looking fantastic, his face is lovely.
I have to admit that after all the fuss I made in getting beads and having to buy frames twice that I didn't get round to finishing Santa & Snowman
All it needs is beads attaching and framing (will do it myself) It will defo be finished in time for next xmas
Anyway, here's my latest update though not much done as i didn't pick up my needle at all over xmas.
I have to keep double checking how many strands for each symbol as it's a mix of 1 strand for some symbols and 2 strands for others.
It's mainly what I think of as background and shading uses 1 strand while bushes and figures use 2 to make them stand out. Close up it all looks the same but when you take a step back you can see depth to it already.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

My hubby wanders round the shop with me and keeps finding more kits/charts for me to buy. It would be cheaper if he wandered off for a Bakewell tart! :rotfl:I love doing back stitch, I've always finished off Mum's projects as well because she's far too impatient !
I quite like backstitch too. It makes the design come to life, so I really don't mind it. Except those (mainly Anchor?) kits, like Tatty Teddy with the horrible backstitch that doesn't go through the holes. Evenweave helps, but it's still a pain in the you-know-what.
And I also cheat and use beads instead of French knots. About 1 in 50 of my knots come out well, so beads is a time saver-and far less stressful!
Shelly, that looks amazing already!Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

This is lovely, do yoh have a link to he finished picture - sorry I'm just being nosey.
I'm in the using beads rather than french knots camp as well. About 1 in 20 knots turn out so beads are definitely the way to go.
Have finished Jane Seymour this morning, will add a photo later. This means I will be finishing something else now before doing the next Wife. Think my knitting needles will be out to finish a sock.Cross Stitch Cafe Member #59 :j

I remember this as a lovely design and the colours are gorgeous
A technique I've used where the number of strands varies (or where the symbol means a bead or a different type of stitch) is to highlight that symbol on the chart key - saves having to double check and somehow makes it easier to remember as well0
