  • Thank you for the comments about my I do wedding sampler.

Yesterday was a stitch-free zone as we were out but here is what I achieved on Saturday.

Really enjoyed it and it's probably going to stitch up quickly. And no backstitch :rotfl: It helps that it is on of my favourite fabrics - 32 count Belfast linen

I will try out the names in the gold that is on the pattern and then change it if I don't like it

I understand why some of you like the effect of bs and what it does to a design but I'm not keen. On the other hand I don't mind French knots.

Ailsb. Here's a link to an old post that contains a pic of the finished design, it's the pic that came with the kit.
As you can see, the colours in the pic and the colours you get to stitch with are quite different! I much prefer the colours I am stitching with and I'm glad the real thing is nothing like the pic that came with the kit :D

  • Hi I'm a long time lurker, been following the threads from the beginning. I wonder if I could ask your opinions. I'm doing a silver wedding sampler and in the date it shows to put present year 2014, when I've done samplers before I've always put the date of the marriage which in this case would be 1989. Which do you think would look right.

Shelly - I do remember the design now. It doesn't seem 3 months since you posted it, doesn't time fly.

FOS - nice progress on the sampler.

Victoria - I think the year depends on the sampler. I've always put both the year of the wedding and the current year. If you add a link to the design and I'm sure we'll be happy to give our opinions - be warned that you will be more confused as we will all say different things :)

Back on topic (sorry stitchy girls!), there's an offer on Amazon local for the knitting & stitching show at Olympia in March if anyone is interested. £6 instead of £12.50. I might go on the Thursday, so if anyone is going and wants to meet for coffee/tea, let me know.

That's annoying. I paid £23 for Saturday/Sunday tickets just yesterday. Grumble.

Crochet is the reason I have been away so long as well. I am truly addicted :T

I have also (rather oddly) been sent free tickets for craft4crafters in Exeter this weekend. If anyone wants one, let me know (If I go, it will be Saturday most likely - so we could meet for a cuppa if you like, but no worries if you don't) x

If it's any consolation, the offer is for tickets on Thursday or Sunday only. Always worth looking on amazon local for offers. They've had some good deals for all sorts of things-restaurants, hotels, shows...

Exeter is a bit far for me, but hopefully someone will join you there. Oooh, just remembered that actually I will be close by-well, closer than I am here anyway! I'm going to Plymouth this weekend to visit my cousin. But I won't be make to make the show-it's a belated birthday for her so my mum & Aunt will be there too. Don't spend too much! ;)

Well, I've finished these little darlings but boy were they "naughtie" ! I blame DMC for (a) poor quality printing of the chart on poor quality paper - the print started to wear off before I was half way through and the paper split along my fold lines until the bottom 3 inches fell off completely and (b) I ran out of thread for 4 colours and had loads left of two others. Luckily I've got a stash so it didn't really hold me up.

This has annoyed me because their kits are expensive. I'm starting on a little dog next in the same range and I'm going to work from a photocopy of the chart, assuming the print is good enough to copy clearly.

Anyway here they are, not washed nor pressed yet but already they look cute ! My Mum has stitched several cat x-s for me over the years so I thought I'd frame them all in matching frames and hang them in a group.

Ericsmum - your cars are really cute. I particularly like the expression on the face of the middle one. Have you sent your feedback to dmc about the kit? They may have something to say for themselves.

Victoria - thanks for podting the link to your silver wedding design. I think because the design says 25 years I would use the 2014 date. You could always put both years in the top box instead of the roses and then put only the date and not the year in the bottom box. Not sure if the top box would look too crowded.

Hi Victoria....I know you have been a lurker because I have noticed you thanking posts for a long time now, glad you have posted, welcome (properly) to the cafe :):T

If I were stitching that sampler I would put the current year, as that is the year that the 25th anniversary is being celebrated (if that makes sense) unless there was space on the sampler to redesign it slightly and include both years.
