This year hasn't been a great one for cross stitching for me, with one thing and another, including suffering with my depression i just haven't wanted to pick up my needle. But I am planning to make 2014 a better year starting by finishing a sampler a friend asked for which should have been finished a couple of months ago. I need to go through my stash and magazines and do a cull as they just make me feel more guilty and take up lots of space and detract from the designs i really want to stitch. A happy stitchy new years everyone.

Emslovesmickey and ME - sorry to hear you've both been suffering. I have good times and not so good times. I think its easy to get on the slipery slope to depression. My husband sometimes asks whats making me feel down and doesn't fully understand why I can't say but I honestly don't know.

As for 2014 I'm going to try to finish some of my stated projects but also to start a kit that was my mums. It felt good to finish things my mum had started but i don't think I've got anything left that she started so I'm going to start one of the kits she wanted to stitch. The one I've chosen to start is Henry VIII and his 6 wives. Not sure how long it will take.

I'm also going to try to organise my stash better and make a list of whats I've got so if I'm at a lose end I can find something to do.

In case I don't get on here later I would like to wish everyone a happy and peaceful New Year. Hope you have a nice evening whether staying in or going out to celebrate. Take care everyone.

Louise lovely cards as always, and the mother and child is stunning. How do you store all the cards you make? I got some great suggestions from others on here on how to store them but just wondered what you did?

I have lots of handmade cards, not just cross stitched ones so I have a plastic box filled with dividers to split them up by type:

JCS1, Good progress on your birth sampler and i agree with the others stitch romantic mood then give it to her as a present. At least he has pants on :p

Erics Mum, the kittens are cute, good start on them.

Louise/FOS, lovely surprise cards, the true christmas spirit.

pm2326, the HAED is very different, i look forward to your progress pics.

ems, i've always wanted to see a photo stitch completed, i look forward to more updates.

beg, lovely kits the family tree is very sweet and i like the tree of love too :)

Maria, enjoy spending your money & vouchers.

*Louise*, love all your makes as always, especially the angels and the little santa. Jealous of your card stash however i have very few people to make cards for so they would sit there gathering dust.

Phew thats me caught up, sorry if i missed anyone.

On the topic of depression, i don't think i suffer from it, however my OH often comments that i'm in a mood when i'm really not, i feel more down than anything then spend my time idling on the computer doing nothing. He also mentioned that i'm always bad this time of year so maybe i have a mild case of SAD :(

I don't normally make new year resolutions, but i would like to try and live life more, it seems to be flying by atm. I would also like to join or maybe start a craft club as apart from you guys i don't have any friends.

  • Made a start on the DMC Family Tree kit last night and have done a bit more today. Will have to be on the alert as it has cross stitch two strands, cross stitch one strand, half cross stitch, french knot one strand and french knot two strands. How long will it be before I drop a clanger? :rotfl::rotfl:

Just having a glass of Proseco and a few doritos. Don't intend being up too late.

Hope you all have a very happy and healthy 2014. xx

Well, I've stayed up later than I thought I would. Been stitching the kittens (see below), eating jelly babies and half listening to the GodFather - one of my favourite films Now switched over to the London fireworks I've decided one of my "targets" for 2014 is to go to London for next NYE's celebrations - I live 30 miles away so no excuse really.

We've got a brand new year ahead of us now, like a field filled with virgin snow. Make your mark !

    Clip Frames

I was admiring a friend's neat work today and it turns out she uses a clip frame instead of a hoop to keep the fabric tighter and straighter. She couldn't tell me the brand name and when I google them I got confused !

SO I need your advice and recommendations for the best clip frame, I'm sure some of you will be using them already.

    Thanks as always

    Happy New Year everyone _party_

Erics Mum, I use an R&R clip/craft frame, I think they are one of the best ones :)
