After a bit of advice (again!)
A friend has seen a design he wants me to do - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fallen-Angel-in-shades-of-black-white-Cross-Stitch-Chart-Pattern-/131040448546?pt=UK_Crafts_CrossStitch_RL&hash=item1e829e9022
I didn't realise how big it would be, chart is 25 pages, way bigger than anything I've done before.
I was thinking about getting some black aida to stitch on instead of stitching the black background.
Would this work ok or just look odd?
That is beautiful (and very sad) I think black would work just fine, as you will still have the swirls to add background interest but even with that change there is a lot of work involved there....I hope he is a really good friend!Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Had a wee look for smaller Lizzie Kate sampler but couldnt find it, will have another look later whjen I have more time.
Ailsb - I love your version of it, not as busy as the original.
maria and the imps - thanks but that's not really their thing either.
b_e_g - oh no!! I love everything ion the Historical Sampler site! This is going to cost me lots of money now you've told me about this website!! There are a couple on there which may be suitable. Thanks for the suggestion.
salfordgirl - that chart is beautiful. Sorry can't help on the black aida though as I'm very new to xs and haven't tried anything like that.
Thanks, everyone for your help and suggestions. Think I need to have a think about whether anything cross stitched is a good idea for them.

Not soppy, not religious, not too twee (I think) and not too much work involved if they don't appreciate it!!

Hello everyone. Have been really busy this week ( yesterday I left the house at 7 and got in at 9 30 though I did see the lights in Regent street which were very pretty) and this weekend is the 50 th birthday bash at my house:eek: So have been reading but not posting. So if I miss anyone here I apologise
coxy I love your advent calendar
pm. The Elvis design is brilliant. Thanks for introducing me to new site (I think:D)
beg. 12 days looks wonderful finished
ailsb Everything bought and wrapped ! Well done. I have so many family birthdays in Sept Oct and Nov that I think it would be impossible to do Christmas as well.
Ayeshalush. I agree with Ruth. If they think xs is "twee" why bother? I would be tempted to buy them some thing off their wedding list and at most stitch a card Lots of us have had the experience of stitched gifts not being appreciated and it's not nice when we spend so much time and effort However the small LK design is a good compromise They stitch up really quickly
Louise. Great progress with the names.
maRia. Love your wedding design. Thanks for the link nmm
Salfordgirlblack aida would work but it's more challenging to work on. Have you worked out how long this will take you to stitch? Have you got a suitable frame? The fabric will be huge Good luck. You will get lots of encouragement here but I hope your friend appreciates what he is asking of you0 -
Great to read that a lot have finished already. But for those like me who still have more to do there is still plenty of time. The aim is for everyone to receive their exchange piece in the fist week of December so posting is Sat 30 Nov or Mon 2 Dec
Please take aPhoto before you send it and as soon as your partner says she has received it please upload to our flickr group so everyone can share in the enjoyment.
Any problems let me know0 -
Just wanted to pop In and send my thoughts and prayers for family and friends. Don't want to re hash it but had to post as I haven't been able to post till now. Devastating news. Xxxxx
Will have a proper catch up when I'm back in the land of the internet. Thinking of you all.
P.s. Doing this on a phone is hard work!!0 -
That is a lovely sampler and not too big so it shouldn't take too long to do. I like the fact that it tells you what you need to stitch it as well.
That is useful if you want to buy everything on one order. Saves waiting until the chart arrives then having to order threads and fabric after.haha, I deleted it after you posted and hoped no-one saw

Pleased you've found something suitable. I enjoyed stitching it and it didn't take long. You can use any fabric you like and change the colours to suit their decor if you wanted. I honestly can't remember if I did that or not now. I stitched it a while ago on my Dad's requested for his neighbours (if you've seen my stitched pic of it, you'll notice the couple were bride & brideso not every cross stitch was suitable!) and I am likely to stitch it again. It's one of those designs that you can stitch up quickly and isn't too fussy, so should suit pretty much every couple. I love Lizzie Kate designs!
Glad you feel welcomed in the cafe, Ali. It's a wonderful group of friends here and we're happy to help-as long as you share photos afterwards! :rotfl:
Can I ask about your username? Is it to do with a face mask from Lush?Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27
