Quick question - I missed an ebay sale for a Mary Hickmott Nativity kit and I'm now watching a Mary Hickmott New Stitches no. 127. Before I put a bid in does anyone on here have this chart that they would like to sell. If so happy to go via the fb page or via ebay. Just thought I'd ask here just in case.

Sorry cant help with this Nativity pic Ailsb. Just had a quick look at it and it is gorgeous. I did a Nativity tryptch (sp?) several years ago but decided to have a different one this year. Hope you manage to get the one you are after. Good luck.

  • Disaster alert!!!!!

I got up to put the dinner on and whilst I was gone my naughty doggie decided to drink my tea and has spilt it everywhere including over all my threads that I had next to me (about 25), would it be ok to cry now or shall I leave it and see how they dry out!

 Oh no - hope you can rescue them.

  • Good luck Louise with the six pics.

Well that's me caught up with all of you for a while. Well the cuppa is now cold and just noticed the time - I should have been in the shower by now. :o

Its absolutely lashing down outside. Got a very busy morning ahead but (fingers crossed) might be able to reward myself with some stitching time pm. (:shhh: don't tell anyone :D).

    Take care everyone

No stitching managed yesterday and not sure my needle will see the light of day today either as the new poirot is on tonight followed by Wentworth! Pfff

I am intrigued and very interested at all these comments about buying the complete set of dmc threads. Where is the best place to buy?

I have always looked longingly at the thread sets on sew and so (both the complete set and the sets that retail about £60 each) but I've never had the cash to buy them. I suppose its no surprise that like everything else, prices will be going up for the threads in January. :(

You NEED the storage boxes and pretty threads to go inside them. Decision made, blame me :D:rotfl::

It's always a pity when you feel your hard work isn't appreciated. I stitched a Rennie Mackintosh sampler for a cousins wedding in July - still no thank you card :(

I remember that sampler. It was beautiful. How rude not to thank you

Well said about needing the threads. It so good to know thAt when reading a xs magazine and a design leaps out that you could start stitching it immediately. Of course that also depends on having a stash of fabric .......:D

MOS, can you not wash the threads? It should be safe as we wash our finished projects.

I answered my own question re the storage boxes, sew and so had the dimensions, the hemline box is 4cm high and the dmc one is 4.5cm high. The hemline one is fine if you use the included bobbins otherwise get the dmc box.

mos. I agree. DMC and Anchor threads will wash quite safely. They probably only need to be rinsed in clean water and left to dry naturally

Hi all, sorry for late post.

nmm - BD is looking good, he's almost able to look back at us.

Pm2326 - the backstitch really sets it off.

Firefly - glad you managed to get your sampler finished, it's lovely.

On the frame question, I use a Siesta rotating tapestry frame. I do find it heavy but tend to prop the frame on cushions so I can work without holding it.

Quick question - I missed an ebay sale for a Mary Hickmott Nativity kit and I'm now watching a Mary Hickmott New Stitches no. 127. Sorry can't help with the magazine. I used to subscribe but it was one I stopped when my magazine collection threatened to take over the house. It's a lovely design. I have stitched some of her designs and really like them. Good luck bidding
  • Thank you for the info on washing the DMC threads, I did give them a quick wash last night and they seem to be ok, just need to make sure they are completely dry before I stitch with them.

DD's have a day off school today (not my choice!) so am going to get as much stitching done as I can before they climb out of their pits.

I really feel i am making great progress on the stocking now, the top part seemed to take forever but now I am past the potting table it seems to be moving quickly. I don't think the tree in the wheelbarrow will be quick though as there are a lot of colour changes

Maybe I can use the disaster with the threads last night as a way of telling DH that I 'need' a new complete set so that fit happens again it won't be a problem? :D
  • Coxy You've done so well almost finishing flower shop, considering you almost gave up on it at one point. Bet you're glad you pushed on with it now. :D

mos glad you're threads seem to have washed up ok. You're stocking is stunning. Is it a kit or from a chart?

Louise your 'name in a frame' is lovely. If I wasn't too old to hang my name on my bedroom door, I might order one too lol.

b_e_g think I may do away with the frame for the time being, and try your method of rolling. I didn't stitch last night 1) because I was shattered and 2) the thought of struggling with the frame again out me off and if that's happening at the very start of the project, there is no hope of me finishing it. SO will give your way a try to night as I really want to get on with it. I'm also working with white at the moment which maybe wasn't the best colour to start with :D. Having only worked small projects up to now, I have never marked my charts but have very quickly realised I am going to get lost with this one if I don't, so I have now photocopied the chart and marked my first few stitches.
