After many years stitching I'd recommend the plastic bobbins, not the cardboard ones.

The basic ones are OK for a while, but if you wind on and off even a few times, the plastic ones are more hard wearing.

Definitely. The fact they are better makes up for having to do all the writing:rotfl:

....For anyone with plastic bobbins - PLEASE don't buy the DMC stickers for them! After a year or so they lose all their stickiness and start falling off, I had to go through mine and rewrite the numbers with a sharpie. :o

Cardboard bobbins shouldn't have that problem though.

how true and wish we'd had this "conversation" before I spent one weekend applying all those fiddly little stickers - they adhered to my fingers 10 times better than to the bobbins  ! I spent another weekend 3 months later writing the numbers on with a sharpie :D

    Good Morning Girls,

Hope all are well, I am recovering, been a busy week, with baking for the McMillan coffee morning via a friend - she made £163 - so my baking must of been ok.

Last year I bought these from Ebay or via facebook - can't mind which for about £50. I will need to sit down one day and finish sorting through them to see what is there. Might change them all to plastic bobbins. She sold them with the bag and a sewing box. If I remember right there is over 500 bobbins - so should be a whole set of DMC in there, if not I will save up and buy them and complete it all.

Excuse photo - taken at sellers home.

Some one recommended on somewhere that you should cut off the label on the skein and then attach it to the bobbin with some sellotape. I wonder - do you if you have a skein - do you put in a bobbin or not?

Now its update time - first the I have started a new one - the spring sampler -

And I have managed my first letter in my learning sampler - done in plain ole cross stitch.

Well, the sun is out, the cat is sunbathing, washing is out, will make shepards pie later so think I have time for a wee bit of stitching because I deserve it :)

    Keep well everyone,

    sweetcarer ;)

Morning all. (well actually its afternoon now) Happy Sunday :j

I hope everyone is having a lovely day :D

I'm feeling slightly worse for wear today after a night out last night although I didn't drink very much (just 3 drinks!) I suppose drinking and a late night have contributed to feeling :undecided today.

I'm hoping to do some stitching later. I'm currently stitching a snowman that featured in the WOXS Christmas robin pull out, (from last year I guess). The snowman has a small robin on his hat hence his inclusion in the feature! (snowmen are probably my favourite xmas stitch!)

It is interesting to read your comments and see pics of your thread stash.

I have my surplus threads stored according to number in a plastic storage tower (so white to 434 in one drawer, 435 to 747 in the next drawer etc). I have one set of drawers for anchor and one set of drawers for dmc. I have many more dmc threads than anchor. I don't have a full set sadly and am tempted to spend all my pennies/overdraft and buy them but unless I actually have a use for them, it seems a waste to spend the money. I do find myself buying the threads for individual projects so probably have lots of duplicates! I've started saving £2 coins again so maybe when I've saved enough... Although at the moment, I'm sorely tempted by the new kindle paperwhite - anyone else thinking of buying it ?

For current projects, I prefer to use those floss away bags as when left with a tiny bit of thread, it can go back in the bag rather than be lost.

I did like those plastic bobbins which were are designed so that you can catch the thread in the middle before winding round - but these seem hard to come by. And most plastic bobbins only have the bit at the top to catch the thread.

I've just found another review I wrote of Cross Stitcher Issue 260. A chart from this magazine that I like is for sale on the Making spot website which closes tomorrow :( Now I just need to find the magazine which I know I have somewhere.....

I was thinking last week when I was reading back my reviews of WOXS that to save re-reading through lots of posts, perhaps we should have a separate thread where we could post our reviews of magazines? This would make it easier to refer back. We could also post reviews of kits etc.

    What do you think?

Hi all, I've not been on here for an age! My mum bought me the most enormous kit last Christmas and I still haven't finished it. The size of it is putting me off

How do I pull myself together and get on with it? It's sat in the drawer under my bed. I'd like to start now the nights are drawing in but I'm just so tired...

    Need motivation!
