Aldi's customers are being taken to court by PE.

I thought the advice on here was that dont pay it, they cant do anything, its just an invoice.
    Is that not so?!

Not exactly. The advice is to soft appeal to the PPC and then hit them hard at the POPLA appeal. Of course this also means not paying.

For a start it's not a fine. You really should start your own thread as this is just dealing with ALDI's Facebook page

Okay it is a parking charge not a fine but it was for an Aldi car park,I had hoped for a friendly reply we're not all computer experts ,I wouldn't know how to start a thread,so I would appreciate it if someone could answer my original question "do I pay?" I know I was at fault by overstaying .

It wasn't an unfriendly reply - it's just easier if everyone starts a new thread for their own question. It saves confusion. Surely after 80+ posts you must know how to start a new thread ?

Anyway - you need to soft appeal to Parking Eye. Just write something along the lines of "I don't accept you have the right to charge me. If you don't agree send me a POPLA code."

Then wait for the rejection and come back here.

    NO you do not pay.

These charges are not fines they are unenforceable penalties that are not permitted under English law. They can only require you to recompense them for genuine losses. It's rather like if you stayed in a hotel that cost £50/night. If you didn't check out on time the most that you could possibly owe is £50 even if there was a sign up in reception saying that they would charge you £1000 if you overstayed. If you stay over your time in a free car park the loss is zero.

You've never started one? OKAY, all you do is go back to the actual parking forum thread list (one click away from any thread, see my signature in bold below my post, which explains where to click if you've not yet mastered hopping from a thread back to the board it sits on). Then you click on 'new thread', the blue button at the top!

But TBH you really don't need to do any of that, you've seen the Aldi facebook page and you've read this thread. It tells you to complain to Aldi and they will cancel the fake fine as it's a scam and you were a customer. So that's what you do too, and ask them how you can be given a longer time to shop in future so it never happens again to you. They'll probably tell you to register your car registration number at the Aldi CS desk if you need longer.

Just had a look at the aldi facebook page, didnt something simalar happen before to this

Council says 3 hours parking (planning permission), Parking Eye says only 90 minutes. I wonder who will win when it comes to Aldi's agent taking my friend to court for staying longer than 90 minutes. The council are interested in the case

Indeed - near me and Coupon Mad. Don't worry, I have my eye on Aldi and PE at the local store just to make sure they don't go breaking planning conditions again !
