You are all anti the flatmate, maybe he has a continence issue or something else. TALK TO HIM.

    No, he's not, he's just an !!!!.

I finally got a chance to do some washing last night. I had no clean work clothes for today, so had to get some washed last night.

After his load had finished at 11pm, I chucked his rags in a bag and put mine in. Tada! Well, up to this morning when he had the nerve to complain that the washing machine kept him up till 2am.

So I told him to go screw himself, and if he hadn't hogged it for the last two days non stop it wouldn't have been necessary for me to use it so late. So it's his own fault,

I've told him that if he continues to abuse the machine, ill continue to do my washing at midnight.

    Solved!

He sounds like an idiot, but the constant references to him being a hippy and rags, are they really necessary?

This has all been festering away beacuse you havent had a conversation with him.

And doing your washing at midnight solves nothing unless you make it very clear he doesnt use the machine constantly.

I'd hate to think of the bills. We do all our washing on a Sunday morning and maybe the odd bit and bob during the week if it's an emergency (Curry on light coloured clothes)!!!

    He sounds rather ignorant tbh.

How long does your washing machine take to do a load? 11 - 2?! If you haven't talked to him how do you know he hasn't got a continence issue, or something else personal?

Does he have a lot of clothes? Is he a bit OCD? Does he smell?

I'm curious as to why someone would put three loads on a day, if his clothes aren't in very good condition, surely washing them to frequently isn't going to do them any good...

My old machine used to take an hour and a half. My new Siemens takes nearly 3 hours. I rang them and they said there was nothing wrong with it.

and when you wash stuff it all comes out clean anyway...

It depends what temperature you wash the clothes at. I wash everything at 60 degrees (except woollens which I wash separately at 40 degrees) as otherwise it can cause urinary infections especially in women:

  • With our machine the cottons cycle takes nearly 2 hours but the easy care takes about an hour and a quarter. The quick wash option takes an hour.

Then OP would also have had to tumble dry the clothes afterwards, I presume.

I think if the flatmate is really incapable of sharing, then OP will have to do a rota. I hate rotas, personally, but if there's no other way to get your washing done..

Most clothing, even undies, will only take a 40 degree wash, according to the label. The only undergarments I've seen that can be thrown in on a 60 degree wash or higher are Sloggis.
