In my garden, I've moved maybe half the plants I may need to move so that the digger can reach the septic tank outflow and re-lay the pipe.

At least I know that this should never happen again, unless we decide to go independent of next door, in which case we will re-design the garden anyway. :)

Baba, I hope your builder is using his own angle-grinder. Mine broke his, so he's been using mine ever since. For a cheapie (£22) it's already done an awful lot of work!

I don't mind the above at all. The builder gets 45% off all his wood, and by some weird method of accounting, the builders' merchants are actually supplying all the upvc at less than the price they are buying it for! This is great because these discounts are being passed-on to us. :D

Yes, that's one tool we don't own. If anybody needed a garden tool however we could supply two chainsaws, two petrol lawnmowers, two hedge trimmers and a brush cutter. OH does rather like his 'man tools'. ;) I'm not allowed near the mowers, but I can't start them anyway as they are both pull start. :rotfl:
Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.... :/

Love the piggie pics CTC. Well done lucille on your win :j

Kitchen is almost finished (after 3 months) - still needs to be decorated and the flooring done. Had a flooring chap round who quoted us nearly £1,500 to put karndean (his recommendation) down in the hall, kitchen, utility and cloakroom . There are already thick tiles down which will be the devil to get up so it will have to be something like karndean or a hardwearing vinyl.

Still the utility, electrics and work on the heating system to do and the chap who has been doing the work for us has sodded off again on another job.:mad::mad: He has been working here on and off since the begining of May and both Mr BD and I just want it finished.

The units are cream and the walls currently magnolia, but I was thinking of a sage green when decorated. The table is next to the wall which doesn't have any units, so not sure if the green will be a bit much, what do you think?

How's your kitchen going Dave? Hope the weather stays fine while you are 'roof free' ;) Very pleased to hear there is progress with the drains.

We were greatly honoured last week with cat feeding duty for the lady down the road who knows everyone (and is as daft about her cats as we are). She gave us a load of woodchip for the chicken run which the chucks are having great fun scratching it around. The 'woodchip man' has promised us more for mulching which will be very handy. Is woodchip (including leaves at this time of year) good for composting?

Got a lot of bulbs - currently in the utility, hopefully Mr BD will have time between work, pub and his thespian activities (currently rehearsing for Jesus Christ Superstar http://www.theatreroyal.org/shows/jesus-christ-superstar/ at our lovely local theatre which has sadly losts its Arts Council funding - more sucked into London probably) to help me plant the blooming things. Will try them in tubs this year too.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

The new beam (iron girder) arrived this afternoon, but we couldn't believe how they'd sent it. There was just a little chap in a Transit tipper and he was smaller than me and aged about 70! :rotfl:

That would have been funny enough, but he'd already dropped off a much longer beam somewhere in the valley and he had 3 smaller ones to deliver after ours. Poor guy! :(

As we couldn't lift it, we had to ease the tailboard open and let gravity do much of the rest. I carried my end for as long as I could....Then we supported the other end between us using a thick bit of wood while the driver accelerated away.....Crazy! We thought they'd send something with a HiAb. No wonder it was cheap! :rotfl:

We have a farmer with a telehandler lined-up for Monday, when it goes into position.

But if our kitchen ends up looking as good as yours it will all be worthwhile! Looks fab.:T I'll not advise on colour, because I am rubbish at that sort of thing, but I like sage green so I'd have some 'somewhere,' definitely. :)

Well done to Mr BD. I know JC Superstar rather well, as I used to use it at school for in-depth English/RE combined, until the government made that sort of thing impossible.

I don't know if I've mentioned it already, but the cast list for the Panto has been released here.... I'm cross-dressing again.
  • Good grief Dave, clearly no 'elf 'n safety when it comes to iron girders delivery

Ohhh what's the Panto this year? Still recall that fab photo of you as Emperor in the nifty hat from last year's Panto :D:D:D Mr BD's Panto this year is Aladdin and the Wishing Tree - have you heard of it?
