The bother with the engineer has been sorted out at long last. He has approved our simpler design for supporting the roof, so at least we won't be paying for the physical version of his, even if the virtual one cost us dearly. :undecided

The steel has been orderd and should be ready by next Wednesday. We even have someone with a telehandler on standby. ....Now all we need is the weather! It's already been the driest September for 50 years, so what are the chances?

The garage had good news for me today,. They fitted a faulty sensor to the van, so it was telling me fibs. What they should've done, was fit a sensor to the sensor.......
  • with us they said the weather is changing in the next few days, now whether that is just a blip in the weather, or whether its is the proper Autumn coming in, who knows lol

Hopefully, it's a blip and there'll be more settled weeks to come. We moved out of the kitchen yesterday into our temporary one, which isn't heated or insulated, so I hope it stays mild anyway!

Yesterday's quick visit from the Outlaws was all about the next roof. I had to do a lot of measuring in the loft. We aren't sure the architect got his drawings right, which could mean problems, though no doubt there's a work-around. There always is. ;)

We are very lucky having 2 guys who have over 100 years experience between them, to compensate for the 'professionals!' :rotfl:

CTC, what you're finding with the sideline business is the same as the pig venture; you have to cut out the middlemen and sell direct to Joe Public, or there's virtually no profit. :(

There's also a tail-off in the graph, where more effort isn't rewarded sufficiently. For example, last week, we sold about £25 worth of produce for an hour's effort, but would we sell £50 worth for 2 hours? Probably not. On a not very busy road, there's a ceiling level, beyond which we just can't go.

Finding the right balance is important. At present, we're too busy to present well or display a good range. When we have more time we'll do that, but it should justify the extra effort in £ per hour spent. :)
  • Glorious here today, was foggy early on but has cleared up to sunny and warm.

    How's 'flowgate' today Dave?

Lovely kitty pics a couple of pages back Alfie.

Been busy (for me :o) so having a quiet day today - the sun lounger is calling. Bloomin' kitchen man was supposed to finish off the kitchen off last week but was delayed. Then turned up on Monday morning without warning and got me out of bed - I was not a happy bunny. And it looks like all he is going to manage this week is the two days of 5.5 hours each that he has done so far.

Got someone coming this afternoon to advise on the flooring. There is tile in the hall and utility and a concrete screed in the kitchen (which is between the hall and utility) all at the same level. And that level is a good half an inch higher than the carpeted living room and dining room.

Any thoughts on what we should do with the mantlepiece over the fireplace?

It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

  • TBH, I can't see anything wrong with the mantel you have!
  • BD.. for me personally the only thing wrong its too dark for my liking.. can it be sanded back?? or would it still be dark??

Davesnave... for at the mo, its trying to find the right customer/s, a new customer of ours had some to try on Tuesday, ordered more yesterday for today, and just phoned up for more, lol, so we told them to double their order.. for tomorrow..lol..

picked up a new customer today.. so fingers crossed...

I would rather a few customers ordering small amounts each week. but as I said I did learn a lot in that meeting last week... so it wasn't a waste of time for me ( maybe them lol)

with this new customer now into his 3rd order in the first week, there is also scope to potential produce other stuff for him next year..

im sure everyone DOES know but thought you may like to read this .... as a warning ........................................................................................................... Cats are extremely specialised hunters, quite different from dogs and their digestive tracts have evolved to suit this. The difference in their diets may be responsible for the unique sensitivity of cats to a number of chemicals, including some of the permethrin-containing flea products intended for dogs. Cats lack a specific enzyme called glucoronyl transferase which helps many other species to break down certain chemicals. The chemical permethrin is broken down by the liver, and it is thought the difference in metabolism is what leaves cats so very sensitive to it, causing them acute neurological problems, with limited treatment options. Exposure to even tiny quantities of the concentrated form of the drug can sadly have fatal consequences in cats.

One thing that is dangerous for cats is scented candles, incense sticks, air freshners etc - can cause all sorts of problems - epilepsy etc.

100% turn out in Angus. Amazing.

Another gorgeous day - but thick mist dropped & every where is pea soup.
