I'm still struggling with this place's 'to do' list, rozee. A sensible person would give up, sell it and buy something with an easy 3/4 acre.:o

But now I look at those sensible buys and think, "Hmm, that garden's a bit poky!" :rotfl:

And things do get done, like lir's 'terrace,' or our caravan pad. However, once they're done, they tend to be quickly forgotten, as we're always moving on to the next important bit, or coping with the next crisis.

Today's crisis talks on the septic tank didn't happen, as the other party wants to get the tank's drain builder around to look. As he's one of those people I've tried to employ, and failed, it will be slightly embarrassing, but potentially illuminating.....when he shows up. Unlike the outflow, this one could run and run....:(
  • morning all,

glad you have heard from Rhiwie, been meaning to message him, but if you speak to him before me, please tell him if he needs anything etc we are not that far away...

just sitting here in the caravan at the ranch, looking out the windows and watching the birds... they are so close, as the caravan is plonked by the boundary hedge/trees.. just seen a great spotted woodpecker, ( just googled imaged it, so it could also be the lesser spotted woodpecker, which is smaller ) never seen a woodpecker before.... what a really pretty bird

Rozee, for it to be the good life, you got to stop running round, and sit down and see what you have around you, its even beautiful watching the leaves slowly changing colour and falling from the trees... I could sit here for hours, just looking out the window at the birds etc..

Thank you for the update on Rhiwie it would be good to have him back.

I have been super busy here, trying to get organised and clearing out loads of baby things that are no longer in use. Hoping to make a few pounds on them so I can buy the next round of items but there doesn't seem to be much money to be made on them, however every little helps ;)

The garden has been tidied and beds weeded ready for next season :j Just to check should I fertilise/add compost to the soil now before I cover it for the winter or is it better to treat it in spring??

I am not in a position to take this dog, with big dog still here, and dog dog being big enough to do damage to such a little dog accidentally, but its one of my dream dogs.

I am looking forward to being a two dog home I don't need to see temptation like that!

If you're going to cover the soil, Rummer, I'd work some compost into the top layer before winter, put the membrane over and let the worms move it around. But see what others say.... I won't be that organised! :o:rotfl:

We had to go shopping, so Lila spent the entire afternoon in the wardrobe, having been accidentally locked in just prior to our departure. Didn't seem overly concerned! I think her total of shrews/voles is now 4 to Izzy's 0, but both have now made it as far as the chickens and the polytunnel, so they are gaining confidence.

In other news, we have no chance of meeting the deadline for getting the main steel beam before the scaffolding, so we've had to put the latter back a bit.

We're still not sure about the spec for the main beam, for although the engineer might want over £450 to tell us how thick it should be, he isn't concerned about the aesthetics. His version would intrude too much, so the actual roof designers are working out how to raise it a bit. I think there's a bit of a stand-off, and I'm not paying anyone till it's sorted. :p

LIR That dog looks gorgeous however I feel he would struggle with the climate where I am and would be in permanent need of a coat or sweater :rotfl:

One item that I listed has gone so that at least is a start :j clutter out and pennies in :D I have also spent the rest of the day clearing out and organising the kitchen which is looking 100x better already :D

Now is when I turn my mind to winter prep and starting to make sure the store cupboard is filled and that I have salt for the path and all the other bits and pieces I need. The winter prep thread on the OS board is great for reminding me all the things I need.

We have just had the news that DD1's cat, a Bengal, which had been missing for over 4 weeks has been handed-in, safe and unharmed, to a vets some distance away. :j A kind lady had spent a week gaining the cat's confidence and feeding her.:D

The vet, like all the others in the area, and beyond, had been leafleted and the chip scan confirmed what they suspected.

The place where missing moggy ended-up wasn't in a direct b-line for her old home, but DD has a theory about that. She thinks that the cat was following the train lines, and if it had continued to do that, it would eventually have reached its old house. :T

DD is investing in a very expensive GPS collar before puss goes out again in around 6 weeks!

Yes, they need jumpers , and they sleep under the duvet with you, like a cat. :)

Some one I know distantly has one as a yard dog, which it think frankly is a bit nuts. It went missing in winter a few years a go, and was a way sometime, maybe a week? Anyway, it survived, and I'm amazed, but obviously delighted the little thing coped.

Our childhood cat nearly got "mailed" to my brother's school in the trunk. Fortunately mum decided to remove the top tray to add something and found him curled up just before it was collected.

On other occasions he went missing and was found curled up at the back of a drawer of fabric; had been there at least 24 hours as that was when the drawer was shut, and he finally decided to let us know that his absence wasn't due to the lady who occasionally cat-napped him by yowling from the understairs cupboard. We reckon he has been their two days at least. No mess though.
