hi all....... being the "queen" of generators
can i give some tips.... dont forget the average kitchen/household impliment is 1000w. [ if you walk round and add up all the wattage of every electrical item in your house you would be shocked at what we use !!] i couldnt have the hoover on at same time as either TV,WASHING MACHINE etc. my house ran on a 6.5kv genny and that was limited use... if the power is straining you hear a big dip in the sound BUT also a wavering power source can blow fuses/affect item. its not what they call a "pure" power source.. so dont use valuable items...:o i was advised to never use more than 80% of output power unless nescesary or risk a shut down... so thats all yours task for the weekend
:rotfl: work out what you would need to "survive"...;)

now i know where there is a BIG diesel generator 20kv sat in an outhouse of a very big house which has all the wiring to come on in case of a power cut ..... AND i know its in excellant condition for an oldie [the best] AND i know he wants to sell/get gone .... not mega money
:D p.s. bearing in mind the lower the power outage ,the better fuel consumption. so bit like sat idling in your car as opposed to grand pri...

We have good sleeping bags and tea lights to get us through :rotfl: Over the last few years it has been our water pipes that have caused us the most trouble :eek:Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

afternoon all,
supposed to have gone on a memorial bike ride out today, after taking a nose at a monthly farmers market, the other side of the city, but stonemason turned up etc, so hubby ended up going on the ride out on his own, and I went to the farmers market.. bought sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce from a local producer I bought from before, best I have ever tasted... also bought their steak and Ale pasties.. plus I bought a HUGE elephant garlic.. for £1, was thinking of using half, and then planting the other half lol.. so when would be the best time to plant it?? must admit I have never had much luck with garlic, with autumn or spring planting...
it was beautiful there in mumbles, the tide was in, the sun was out, and HOT!!!Work to live= not live to work0 -
Good grief, you've been busy on here! Thanks for the illuminating replies about To Do Lists and the Good Life. We did actually, mum and I, sit on the lawn today and it was lovely for all of two minutes when the girls came over, trod goose poo into our picnic blanket and bounced all over us. This is why I don't sit down.....
Alfie, "your" geese are doing well here, OH loves them. It's really strange as he can sort of take or leave the chickens, but he's really bonded with the geese and the gander thinks he's the bee's knees. Their gosling is thriving. I think she's a girl.
I hear you about the engineer and the steels, Dave. The desgin our engineer came up with for the roof had so much steel going through it to bolster it, it was almost cheaper to replace the roof! Which is what we did in the end! Talk about over-engineering. Very frustrating0 -

The problem for this guy is that he's dealing with a couple of people (FiL and builder) who know a thing or two, so blinding them with figures isn't going to work.
We have now ascertained that he did not listen carefully or, apparently give much consideration to the architect's plans, despite photocopying them all, including irrelevant bits, to pad out his report. If he had, he'd have realised that both the kitchen walls we are spanning are of cavity construction, not just one of them.
So, we don't really need the vertical steel he took so long calculating the load on, nor do we require the huge buttress he seems to have placed at t'other end "to match the cupboard you are constructing."
What cupboard? :wall:
We are removing a cupboard. If we don't remove it, our new, enlarged window will be inside it! :rotfl:
He's well past his use-by date.:(:(

morning all,
what a beautiful morning..
I am now panicking, the little pep talk with her, saying that if she doesn't have babies he will be sausage meet, has seemed to work!!! BUT this means we now have 2 litters due, possibly close to each other 'gulps' so this means one will have to have her litter outside..the other one will def have to go inside, as part of their run gets really boggy, so we will have to re- do some of the fencing, AND get those big huge fence panels you see round building sites, to go along side their run ( along side the footpath) to stop the stupid public and their dogs getting close to them) just imagine the image, of a wild welsh woman sitting on a rocking chair, and instead of a shot gun, verbally shooting them down lol ( just think hillbilly lol)
unless we can build a stable rather quickly lol...Work to live= not live to work0 -

Old shed and electric fencing?
I wouldn't say the morning here is great yet, just grey. I don't mind, as I got the chicken shed + its extension re-felted yesterday and there was just enough sun /warmth for that. It's not a job I like, as I use lots of trowel-applied gunge to stick it down, besides the felt nails, and I get very messy. Pays off though in the long run.
Now we have a 12' x 5' chicken house to go with the 12' x 7' one. Have you spotted the difference? Yes, you're right, this one will fall over in a strong gale from either north or south, so I'll have to put in some strong poles to prevent it from doing that!
Glad to see someone's been arrested on suspicion of the murder down alfie's way.0 -
Davesnave, not aloud electric fence along side the footpath... just incase some stupid booger cant read the signs... ( or their dog)
will think of something, we have too lol..
glad they have arrested someone..for that murder..Work to live= not live to work0 -
