Well done RAS. :TYour event sounds a lot more prestigious than our wee village show. Some of the embroidery/craft work here is exceptional, and the cooking's pretty good, but if I'm honest, the veg and flowers are not so great.
Here at home, we have been selling our surplus apples and veg at the gate for the past 4 days and takings are already around £20.0 -
Anyone keep cacti? I've had the wee ones from Ikea for months and months and TBH they haven't grown a mm! The one with 'fronds' has maybe added some more fronds!
They are on a south-facing kitchen window-sill. What sort of water/feed regime works best?0 -
IHS I had a collection of cacti from Ikea that I had for 6 years and they never got any bigger although they stayed healthy until I was given a cactus as a gift and it had some sort of infection which then went on to wipe out all the cacti in the house
I was told sunshine and bursts of watering are good for making them growTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

RE CACTI...... i have a large collection that half have flowered this year. they do better NOT sat in solid pots that hold water. stand them on a tray and dribble water [prefer rain water] VERY lightly over top of cacti so it runs down sides and thats all .any excess can escape to tray. they do not need soaking. cacti in the wild merely get moisture from the cold nights. if they fill the pot , re pot them by wrapping a collar of card round them and lift from pot placing in a slightly bigger. . they only need the merest gap between cacti and pot BUT they do well in a trough in together also, spaced out but have to be stable. get a cacti mix for them . they do not need a feed then. a cacti dies from the root up cos the root is very shallow and water sitting under em kills em. hope this helps0

Ras will def try and go to St Fagans to the apple event,,, we were talking about going,as I love that place...
we had a wired sky earlier, wish I had a better camera to show it off properly.. but here goes
IHS... re- cactus, I never used to water my ones for months on end.. and I sometimes used to plonk them in the out house.. and they done well, until I plonked them in the greenhouse under a drip, so they had too much water, and rotted lol.. I am sure cactus are very slow growing anyway.Work to live= not live to work0 -
"Wow!" indeed.
They've grown so fast, alfie! What on earth do you fed 'em on?
Our two terrors have pretty much settled to a routine now, part of which involves sitting on me at around 6am and purring very loudly. This is the early morning call for grub. Once fed, they go back to bed! :rotfl:
Lila is the bold one and the huntress, so not quite the dizzy blonde we imagined when we named her. All the same, she knows just how fluffily beautiful she is.
Izzy, all legs and tail, is nervous and bordering on timid outdoors, though she's fine with people. She was gaining confidence until yesterday's mad pursuit in the garden with Lila ended with them running, smack, bang, into a ginger Tom!
I don't think the Tom did anything, but it gave them a terrible scare. Lila has recovered, but Izzy is still hanging around by the back door.....:(0 -
Semi-lurking reading your posts. It's a bit mad here. What's new? Progress is being made.0

Hello rozee.:hello:
Too hot here! It's like July. Trouble is, I have all the grass to cut.:(
Yesterday, we took advantage of the still day and extended the first chicken house, doubling its size.:D I'd had the base ready for weeks, but other things, like the major works here, were more important.
I was not convinced an extension made 4 years after the original chicken shed would just slot into place, but it did.:j
Now it's just too hot to put the felt on!
DW has gone north to collect acrow props today, as we've reached the limit of what we can do with lengths of 6x3.
At last, we have the structural engineer's figures......we just don't understand them! :rotfl:0
