You are a naughty lot!
My temporary roof is made of modern thick polythene, though I had a scary shed roof 'experience' back in 1988 when DW and I were first working on our old home. Then, I had a tin garage to demolish, and as it was a nice day, DW had the back door wide open. Just as well...
I was busily removing screws from the tin roof, without thinking what I was doing. When I took out the last one, near the top., it then occurred to me that I was standing on the freed panel....and that was only because it took off, surf-board style!
So I surfed down the roof, off the side of the garage and straight through the back door. I don't think I even fell over. Naturally, this caused some hilarity, but it wasn't something judged or repeatable, so I was really lucky.
Learned my lesson....almost. A few weeks ago I did the same thing on our lean to, but the slope was much lower and I went only a few inches.0 -
You picked the right week, Better Days. It's often like this just after the schools go back. As a former teacher, I know! :rotfl:
All the best for the big meeting, CTC. :A I think your idea is a good-un. Niche markets take some seeking out, but you have obviously done your homework.
Off to get the car MoT'd. I know it won't pass, but I can get a courtesy car from that garage. I need to give them some work as they're honest and always kind to me.
The van is in another garage, having its rear brakes sorted......again.0 -
morning all,
its a bit fresh this morning lol..
builders are here now, as have removed the chimley they need to batton where the chimley was, and tile it etc, the stonemason blocked and done the air brick thing with it...I think the fascias are going up today too??
Davesnave hahaha would have love to have been there, I would have been piddling my pants.. even though it could have potentially be dangerous..
Thanks for the good lucks.. I have been trying to forward think, as the line of work we are in now, is not going to last forever, cracks in the industry are showing big time, due to people trying to jump on the band wagon.. plus hubby and I are not getting any younger, and it is not the type of job you can be doing up to the 70 year old retirement age...
The potential new business from the smallholding isn't going to bring mega bucks in, it will be ( fingers crossed) a part time wage for one of us... which is a step in the right direction for us injoying, and being at the ranch full time..
I know this year, I was going to try and grow this, that, and the other to see what I could sell, BUT I think I really do need to think logically over the next few weeks, and see what I could realistically grow and sell...Work to live= not live to work0 -
CTC, I had a dream about your place, We were all there and then I phoned that amazing spaces guy and to the bare stone walls and fires of the cottage he added a plain glass box to it and you charged people to come and look and the amazing spaces guy made your neighbour apologise to you and it ended with a big BBQ and the bikes.
I don't watch amazing spaces, lol.0 -
WOW.... where did that dream come from????
open spaces is that a tv show??
Maybe one day when Alfie is coming down, maybe you could come down too..
our place is not to everyones taste, especially with the footpath, and it backing onto a 'posh' estate, BUT.. its ours, its what we could afford to buy at the time, the house will be perfect for the style of living we want...
Davesanve is right ( for all the lurkers) less is def more.. we got approx. 3.5 acres of rough, over grown, wooded area, which we are slowly doing bit by bit.. and must admit at the moment juggling work and the ranch is hard.. and we start jobs, but never seem to be able to finish, or maintain what we have done..
there is sooo much to do, we have been like rabbit in the headlights... and yes we are not the most energetic people in the world.. lol.. so things are done slower than someone else would do,
and in one way I am glad we have taken a laid back approach to the land/house as we have changed our plans loads of times... plus not being able to do things down to not having the money at the time has helped in coming to the right decisions on things too..lol..Work to live= not live to work0 -
Amazing spaces, yes, tv show.
Don't know where it came from, lol.
Car drama this morning, it won't start, thought it was battery, but its been charging for a few hours and nothing. I think things are about to get very bleak at the rates house again.
Wish we knew a car person. There are auctions round here and bargains but we aren't clued up enough to risk it. We need something gutsier than we just had, but not huge.
Defender swb really is just right size tbh, but not ideal for long distances. Hospital trips or going to London is a pita. I hoped ours would be like a crossover defender, its really not.
So we cannot agree what to get. Fir wants defender, but its just too much for my joints esp knee and back to drive it in to London, and in really DO want a life again, and not to feel imprisoned by car choice. So fir says some thing bigger ( lux four x 4 ) but then harder to park and fuel consumption.
Don't know what to do.
My dogs won't travel together like Alfie's, and we thought big dog would be gone before we had to make this decision.0
