CTC, a lot of the later cooking and multi-purpose apples aren't ready yet, and won't be for a few more weeks. There are also eaters, like russets and similar, which I'm leaving alone for now.

The show went OK. I was worried that few would bother, as I'd heard entries were well down, but people did as they often do and left it all to the last minute. :T

DW enters all our stuff, so she picks up all the prizes. This year, she received the cup given to the person with the most horticultural points. :A

I thought we'd have a first with the peppers, but it was especially good to gain it with some plants grown from Lidl's 25p seeds. :D

We weren't so lucky with the eggs. We submitted 3 of the remaining marans' eggs and came through the appearance round in 2nd place. However, a tiny amount of blood in the egg they cracked open, saw us disqualified. We weren't the only ones.

Anyway, great progress on the Ranch, CTC. You may beat us yet!

:j Well done Mrs Dave :j Shame you missed out on the eggs but fantastic results with the peppers and a trophy, how marvellous!

Choille Rain is never too bad when you have to be indoors anyway ;) It was dull and windy here today yet still mild.

CTC Loving all the pics :D Looks like you got loads of bargain goodies! As I mentioned before our house is not to everyones taste and is eclectic to say the least, however we love it and as we are the ones living in it who cares what others think ;)

I did little but potter round the house and garden today, although we did go on a playhouse hunt. Those tiny wee houses are  expensive! I think we are going to ask for a family purchase over his birthday and Christmas to cover it as it would be grand for him to have a den ;)

Our fruit is shocking ly early davesnave. The cooker that isn't a bramley but is meant to be is dropping off, sure it was much later last year..

The winter nellies pears all dropped this week. The key to the odd part of that is WINTER nellis. Its an October/ November harvester I think.

And its ready. The humbugs are miles off, but I'll be checking the others tomorrow, the earlies, lol.

Interestingly, the other thing is its the first year our mulberry has been happy all the year through, and its also been a light fruiting year for the established apples ( I did prune hard) but better looking fruit again.

Water shoots have been horrific, anyone else found the same? Wish rhiwy were about for the experience with this stuff!

Well done Dave - What successes. You will need a big display cabinet for all the trophies.

Rummer - these play house things are expensive, could you make a tent thing do?

Alfie - great that mums home. Hope she keeps improving quickly. A relief for all near you that they've got the murderer. Gee, how scary was that?

CTC - you couldn't have bare stone here because of building regs requiring insulated houses.

Been listing on the bay so jiggered - off to my scratcher.

Stayed very sunny and warm with me, although I heard and saw 1st robin of the season in the garden this evening.

The warmth has prompted my Rosa rugosa 'alba' to flower, after being planted as bare root earlier in the year. Note the dead green-fly which I sprayed a week ago...

Otherwise, been doing a huge sort out of indoors plants, inc. potting-on one of the Kentia Palms as the roots were all circling the bottom of the pot which I thought wasn't helping although they don't like disturbance.

All the plants were soaked in a bucket with a good amount of Provado in the water to knock back a few mealy bugs which had appeared

I have had one of those :eek::(:o days.

It started when DW noticed that the water butt where we've stored most of our heating oil temporarily, was dripping from the tap. It's been fine until now, but suddenly the tap had decided to leak. :(

Some hours later, I'd cleaned up enough plastic dustbins to decant the oil, which is now sitting in our old shed instead. :o(None of us smokesand they have lids! :p)

Then I thought about the shed. As we're not demolishing it now, at least for a year or so, I decided to repair the roof. However, as it is going to be scrapped, I didn't want to use very expensive roofing felt, so I used some free black plastic DPC I'd been given. Bit of a mistake, that, for although the plastic was free, all the battens and screws I had to use weren't, and it's the most slippery roof I've ever been on!

    I will finish it tomorrow.....maybe. :o

Back from a lovely week on the Kent coast. Were lucky with the weather and only Friday was cloudy

Most relaxed I've been all year :D

Back to reality here now. Tomatoes have had it - they've got blight, have had a small crop, but will have to pull them up now.

Hope tomorrow goes a bit better for you Dave, Bad luck with the oil, and the smell goes a long way.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

  • quiet on here today, not surprised as its been a lovely day..

went home for a few hours to de-louse the house lol, well wash dishes, make food etc and then had a lovely soak in the bath.. back up the ranch now..

Davesnave.. so glad you had a fab day at the show, sorry you had such a poop day today..

WELL, the potential income stream that I mentioned before, I now have a meeting with a wholesaler on Tuesday.. so I am now thinking it might have been a stupid thing to do lol... BUT if nothing become of it, at least it will potentially give me more of an insight on what they look for etc...

so better get my 'posh' frock out ( the only one lol)
