While I understand what LIR means - you have to try to live amicably with your neighbours, CTC - the dogs trespassed onto your property & were out of control so the owners MUST take some sort of responsibility & make redress.

    From https://www.gov.uk/control-dog-public/overview (the Govt. advice):

Then I don't think you DO understand what I mean. :). I fully agree that they much take responsibility and be forced to. BUT I think its a matter of absolute tact that could linger and impact significantly on the dream and importantly to CTC to her pork buying market. The result of this could be people who buy pork locally loyally or who will never touch the dog killers pork. That would of purse be wrong, but wrong often doesn't enter into this sort of thing.

I absolutely agree it MUST be tackled, and in the strongest terms, but that CTC needs to do it in a way that is a iron hand in a velvet glove.

Small holders with produce to sell or businesses to run are in quite a different situation to people with no local market or no business....because local opinion can make or break you, whether you personally give a damn or not.

CTC has had a bloody rough role of the dice recently and this seems like it could be another bale of straw on a pretty laden camels back, so I am concerned for her and her husband, because I know I would be foaming at the mouth with it all :o:D

    hello peeps

well, its all happening and i agree with LIR. all the advice in the world will maybe confuse the long term results.
i agree owners are responsible. my dog bimble will walk amongst any animog ...till they start flapping/sqwaucking/running amok....then he "joins in" and i have lost a chook.
CTC needs to step back, and look at every scenario of the results of thier actions. hard but head / heart ???
i know they will make the right desicion for THIER circumstances.

Well the little piggies are now back with their brothers and sisters..

We put loads of new straw in the arc, to make sure that they try and stay clean... anyway the 2 piggies went straight to the fence to see 'paul' the boar, and they were sniffing each other..we put the rest of the straw in 'paul the pig's' shelter, and within minutes he had a mouth full of straw, an he was putting it along the fence between him and the piglets, and he was trying to push it though the fence for them:A:A:A I was sooooo nearly crying... I honestly didnt think a boar could be like that.

A very nasty and difficult situation; the only positive being the reaction of the neighbours. I'm truly sorry about your predicament CTC. :(

I agree enough opinions have been aired here. However, the police may make their decision independently, as they should, because it's matter of public protection. I would speak to your specialist insurer, CTC, as they'll have a legal advisor, but I don't think it will be a case of the dog owners 'choosing' whether to compensate you or not!.

It seems almost petty in the light of the above to say that we came home tonight to find our front hedge vandalised. We had to go on a bit of a mercy mission this weekend. I'm too knackered to say more now, but it was just a case of seven or eight hedging plants being ripped up and thrown about. We'll be able to fix it. ;)

    thank you rhiwie/rummer

    Alfie... thank you ;)

Davesnave:mad::mad::mad::mad: I just cant see the point in doing something like that, was it someone walking, drunk? disgruntled neighbour? school holidays, kids bored???

Youngest and his girlfriend stayed up the ranch last night, and funny enough before this happened, I did say to hubby that I wanted to start staying up there during the week too.

The thing is, even if we did live up, we still got to go to work everyday, so there will be times no one will be there...

In reality as you all know, there is no way we would get enough income from the land/pigs to live on, so we would have to have an income from elsewhere.

right better get ready for work

I suspect drunk, as Saturday was the last night of a week's festivities in the little town along the road. I think we were too concerned with making a fast getaway Sunday a.m. that we didn't notice.

Quite encouraging that local youths were walking, rather than driving while tanked-up!

But pulling up plants isn't anything like harming animals, despite what people say about talking to them (and my offbeat neighbour who measures their energy fields... don't ask!)

Plants are easily replaceable and won't suffer from the memory of what happened to them.

I know the owners of the dogs didn't deliberately let them escape or expect them to harm your piggies, but as they did, those people should man-up and take full responsibility, without conditions.
