[STRIKE]
I'm getting a message that I have been banned from the Forum! Help!
[/STRIKE]
Oh, apparently that was only temporary!
Lost my post though!
May have something to do with the change of servers coming up from tonight.

So, if we're all unable to post (for, maybe, the whole weekend) I'll wish everyone a good one while I have the chance:beer:

Hi Better Days, didn't realise you were a fellow ME person - though maybe I just forgot!Hope you recover from your surgery soon - rest rest and rest until you feel better!
Hope everyone has a brill weekend. I must iron some clothes this afternoon and finish packing - we're hoping to finally get off to Bwlchtocyn tomorrow... We were meant to be going last Monday! But the hot and humid weather has been such a drain on me that just couldn't cope with the sorting and packing. Poor OH is going to plant about half a dozen largish tomato plants down the garden when he's finished vaccing the inside of the car. We were going to take them to the lottie, but it's too hot and humid still today to face it. Not looking forward to the drive tomorrow - looks as if its going to be torrential rain.0 -
Glad the surgery went well, Better Days.
I'll be brief....Went to two more recycling centres today in a different area and still drew a blank on exchanging cylinders!
One guy was sympathetic and really wanted to help, but he pointed to a CCTV camera and said, "It's a sacking offence!"
I never imagined Big Brother would stop me switching gas suppliers!
Maybe I'll try Freegle, or even a card in a newsagent's window.
Something like: "Non smoking male, gsoh, wishes to meet similar (or well-muscled female) for possible short rendezvous with a view to exchanging gas cylinders. Must be willing to accept BP. Your place or mine, but cannot accommodate." :rotfl:
Everyone have a good weekend.0 -
BP sold out to MacGas, Dave.
Other than going to the MacGas company themselves I'm not sure you'll have much joy. They should be able to advise you on what to do.

BD .... take it easy and have plenty of rest, and cuppa's and biscwits... and make them chocolate ones:D
Maggie, injoy, hope the travelling is ok..
Davesnave:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: who could resist that advert..
Well the sandblasters have been, haven't seen the house yet, but hubby put pics up on facebook for me to have a look at..
Stonemason is going to have another look on Monday, and hopefully the pointing on that front wall will be done by the en of august.
MEANWHILE..... hubby was hacking off the rest of the plaster in the kitchen, remember the pictures of the rotten wooden lintels, well it looks as though the only thing holding the bricks above the window was the old plaster, yep you guessed it, a load of it came crashing down, so hubby has now gone to b&q to try and get a concrete lintel to put up before anymore comes down, so bang goes putting wooden beams back, will have to put wooden facias over them.
Will try and tae some pics and post when the forum is back up and running...
SOOOOOO I def got to start getting the money in BIG TIME.. as it looks as though trying to do the house in stages isn't going to be that simple:rotfl:
discussing the 'moving wall' with the stonemason, and the verdict is still out, so we both agreed, that we will do the 3 other walls, and then see realistically what the wall needs, under pinning, re-building, mastic and a bit of chewing gum:rotfl: or hold our breaths and pray:DWork to live= not live to work0 -
Gloom outside, rain tomorrow, so decided to do a covered car boot in the morning to shift some of the surplus stock. Hoping that weather will mean punters who arent on hols will feel motivated to buy
GSs just left, bundles of fun and even got a fair night's sleep. They spent 20 minutes snacking on the berries, sticky hands and purple faces :rotfl::rotfl:
Glad that people have taken advantage of the dry spell to progress their builds!0 -
Our piglets got attacked by dogs on Friday:o:o:o:o:o:o:o
Cut a very long story short, neighbours phoned us to say they had been attacked, got there, neighbours had gone into the run to get the dogs out, owners, said their dogs got out of the back garden. I phone police, and wanted them destroyed.
Police said the owners could take the dogs home, and the police would contact us within 24 hours ( still no contact).
Phone vet, and we had to take the 2 badly injured ones into the surgery. to have gassed, to have them stitched. woman owner didn't believe us that they had to be gassed. so the man owner of the dogs wanted to come with us...
by now they are pleading to us not to have the dogs destroyed... and I am now feeling guilty as they kept on mentioning their children are crying their eyes out..
In the vets, the dog owner said to me, do you want me to pay for this:eek::eek: I was gobsmacked, and just nodded. He then asked about not putting the dogs down, and I just said its up to the police now, and he then turned round and said if the ogs had to be distroyed, he wasn't going to pay.
The bill is going to be around the £300 mark.
The 2 piglets had to be stitched behind their hind legs, and one of them had an artery hanging out:o:o
was in the vets most of Friday night...
No contact from the police or the dogs owners
So I am having my first cuppa since Friday
We would have normally been there at the time the attack took place, BUT the rotten lindel fell out on hubby, and laod of the stone fell down too, so hubby had gone to b&q to get new lintels...Work to live= not live to work0 -
That's better, cuppa is going down nicely:D
For the lurkers...
I am a total animal lover, and now been put into a position.. my head is in a total spin with one part of me putting myself into the dog's owners position, BUT yet my pigs have been attacked, and now I am totally worried about, even though the owners said their dogs never go out, and have never got out before, that the dogs now know where my pigs are, and might try and get out to get them, PLUS.. even though the owners said they are good Dogs, now that they have attacked my pigs, have they now got a tast for it, and next time it might be a child???( even though there are children in their house)
I really can put myself in their home at the moment... and being totally upset... they are prob feeling what I felt when we had to put our Rocky down last year ( old age)
I REALLY do feel bad... and it is REALLY upsetting for meWork to live= not live to work0 -

OK - Deep breaths, CTC.
Dog attacks are, unfortunately, fairly common & on the increase.
What type of dogs were they?
I tend not to have much patience with dog owners who can't control their pets. I've seen too many who think "It's alright. My Fido would never do that" only to find out that any dog not properly trained/supervised/controlled will. We've had dogs chase & kill various poultry & worry goats & ponies.
I'm not sure what the position is on police destroying animals after the event. The owners are lucky you weren't a farmer with a handy gun because you'd have been completely within your rights to shoot the dogs on site if they couldn't be stopped.
The relevant laws, I think are the Animals Act 1971; Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953 & possibly the Dogs Act 1871. Not sure if Wales is exactly the same, though.
As far as I know, although it may not be based on scientific fact, dogs can get a taste for blood.
The owners really shouldn't be using the psychological blackmail bit. If the dogs can attack like that then they should count themselves lucky it wasn't their own kids that were turned on. Maybe next time it will be.
At the very least you are entitled to them covering your full costs plus compensation. The piglets may need further treatment in future.
Most farmers & livestock keepers are animal lovers & will tell you it isn't the dog at fault, it's the owner. Unfortunately, if the owners are still putting their dogs above anything & anyone else they aren't likely to change their ways in the long term, IMO.
Just thought ........ Pigs are incredibly intelligent. They remember things. If you have a good neighbour with a dog who will walk quietly past the pig pen with the dog on a lead it may tell you whether the piglets have an ongoing problem with dogs.0 -
CTC very sorry to hear what has happened. It must have been so upsetting.
:(:(:(:( Poor little piggies - they must have been terrified. And now the decision of what to do about the dogs involved. I suspect a lot will depend on the attitude of the police. It would be interesting to know what sort of dogs attacked your piglets. Were they terriers of some sort? I'd be surprised if it was a couple of daft Labradors, but you never know.
One of our pet rabbits was killed by the neighbours dog and it still makes me feel sick to think of it.
If the owners continue to be intransigent could a halfway house be for you to insist that at the very least the dogs be assessed by a qualified dog behaviourist to assess the potential for danger to livestock and humans that these dogs pose? I have a friend who is a dog behaviourist and she sometimes does work of this nature. She sometimes does have to recommend that a dog be euthanised. The owners would have to pay for the assessment and any training and ongoing monitoring by the behaviourist.
Just a suggestion, and you may well decide on balance that the best protection for your livestock, and for those around you is to insist on euthanasia now. The attempt at emotional blackmail by the owners is so unfair - and best I think to take out of the equation with the decision you make.
What a horrible thing to happen and hope the cuppa and some choccie biscwits are having the desired effect :grouphug:It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
