Things seem to be on the up here. Build scheduling looking like things might work timing wise for the grants that are available if we can qualify within the August end deadline.....

Also, I survived a whole day with the kids - first day of the holiday - we went to a local community farm :D

    :j:j:j

Keeping everything crossed that it all runs smoothly :D

    sandblaster didn't turn up:o, but then I didn't phone him:cool:

ebay is ticking over, but could really do with some more sales, as the stonemason turned up at work, just to see what was happening, which was a bit spooky as we were going to phone him in a week or two.

Beautiful, beautiful big fat drops of the gentler type of summer rain last night, most of the night.

The front lawn, which tbh, I had scalped a couple of weeks ago to a nasty shade of yellow and gave a trim yesterday is already hopefully speckled with green at its worst patch and a lush rich colour at its best.

Tiler in today to do the first and easiest bit of tiling, around the bath, and to look at the shower area (which will be a little, well, a lot, harder).

Feeling utterly fed up about this stupid village thing on Friday, weather looks iffy, making outdoor electrics for my part a wretch, and some b1tch on the committee referred to DH and I as 'the heathen question' (its primarily a church thing). Resisted strongly pointing out that technically I am baptised into the church that built their fourteenth century church...recognised I neither cared and would be better to pour oil on waters than light a match near a refinery which would only burn me!

Thanks for the cup CTC, it's the only one I'll get. :D There were a few given out, and about half were for children's entries, which was nice. :)

We had the rain here too last night and enough to do some real good.

Village politics eh, lir? Ours isn't too bad for that, as I've said before, and at least everyone sings from the same hymn sheet about the vicar! :rotfl:

As I have said before, everyone who enters competitions are ALL winners:beer::beer::beer:

Yep lovey rain last night, so lets see the weeds grow before our eyes:D

LIR In one way this is why I like not being part of a village community, and doing/organising things, BUT then maybe that is half the problem with there being no neighbourly/village spirit anymore..

Haha, the village thing. Then add a dollop of Welsh Nash in for good measure :D

I would be pleased for someone to call me a heathen, LIR.... and then, I have always lived on the edge of the herd and enjoyed non-conformist status (with a small 'N') since being born "half-caste" in the sixties :)

On the whole, the village thing is for the good in my experience. We have a really impressive mix of proudly Welsh rural types, those who have lived in the village for generations and are related to half of it (the "Taffia"), incomers who are motivated to integrate whilst respecting local culture (that's us, hopefully), the committee people who raise loads of funds for the village (we have had a new playground and ten iPads for the school in the last year). We have been on the brunt of the downside, when we first moved and fenced our land (change... people rail against that). I prefer the busybody to the couldn't-care-less of the city. Having said that, I'm glad to live a mile out of the village. And everybody knows eveything about everybody and, when they don't, they make it up :)

LIR Well done for rising above others behaviour! Just focus on all the people who will enjoy the day thanks to your hard work and effort.

Dave Great news about the show!

CTC It is so exciting hearing about all the things that are happening up at the ranch :D

Well this morning I have done another review of our finances and I am going to have to really cut back if I want to achieve the targets I have set myself :( . The only option is going to be the food bill (again , groan). Ah well onwards and upwards ;)

Good luck with the lender, Rummer.

Ah, the joys of village events.:rotfl:

It doesn't matter if one is in the village itself or outside it. There will always be talk.
One sure fire way to know you're a topic of conversation is if they talk about anyone else to you. You can guarantee that if they do then you'll be the topic elsewhere. It needn't even be true - quite often it isn't as it's normally all based on a form of Chinese whispers which gets altered as it passes from mouth to mouth. :rotfl:

Don't let it worry you, LIR. It's always the same old few that get lumbered with doing these things. Usually the old crowd are either fed up to the back teeth & want someone else to take over (but nobody else of long-standing will take it on so they opt for roping in the newbies) or they're the sort that wants to run village life & to make sure you know your place in the pecking order ......... somewhere near the bottom rung ;)
It usually all ends in tears or tantrums.

My family are mongrels from way back.......pioneer people, so mixtures of countries and denominations and stuff. My sibling and I have different fathers and were babies into different churches :rotfl: (sibling is sort of observant, I am not) DH is the first in his non Christian family to have married out. We ARE heathens, joyfully but respectfully so, it was just the 'smiling assassin' delivery.

I'm quite happy I could have defended myself had I felt the need to. I'm happier I felt secure enough to not need to!:)
