I NEVER flower arrange, even in my old tiny hamlet where lots of pressure was spied to flower arrange for church even if you didn't go.....nope, nope nope.....it causes wars.
I think bought in flowers are quite standard. Flower arrangers (and of course professionally, florists) are not necessarily gardeners themselves.0 -
Well, I wouldn't have won tomatoes, even without the blackbird, 'cos I was disqualified! Apparently, my tomatoes weren't 'cherry tomatoes,' despite the fact that every web site that describes Gardener's Delight, calls them that. They are obviously all wrong!!!
My peas were disqualified too: "Not a show pea."
My squash came second in the 'any other vegetable' section, beaten by some organic Shitake mushrooms. Hmmmm....if they are going to be so picky, is a mushroom a vegetable?
DW didn't fare too badly, even getting a couple of firsts for single stems and pot plants, but not for flower arranging! :rotfl:0 -

Serendipitous lawn cutting.....having JUST the right amount of fuel in the thing to cut all the grass and out it away. Such satisfaction as is spluttered to a halt as I put it away. (It actually atarts to complain when it has aome left, but this was perfect).0

Some of this sounds pretty bizarre - does the show schedule state that the peas must be "Show Peas"!
I spent years putting stuff in AOV or AOF and failing until I realised that it said AOV (to be named). A few seconds with a borrowed pen fixed that and I have been getting first for a lot of things since (because others have not yet twigged).
Was stunned to pick up a third for my raspberries; I managed to find 12 that were sort of ripe and entered them as a sacrifice to bump up the very low entries cos of the poor weather.
Got first for the peas and they were definately NOT show peas (Meteor) but were the best matched of the three entries. Normally there would have been loads of competition for the class. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Sounds like DH whose peas were dissed too - not enough flow :rotfl:
All sounds pretty cut throat. My tomatoes are still flowering, no sign of any fruit yet. Been a lovely day but Tomasz Schafernaker is on the news with dire warnings of rain and storms. Better enjoy it while I can.
(Have you noticed the great names on the BBC News. There is Tomasz (above), Matthew Amroliwala, Damian Grammaticas and Naga Munchetty to name a few)It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

The one whom I taught, Neil Sleat, should really have been a weather man!:rotfl: (He's R4 news.)
The Show's not really cut-throat and the two lady organisers are very keen and helpful. They actually listened to a couple of suggestions and wrote them down. It's important that people keep supporting these shows and related events, as without them, country fairs lose the local element of participation.
The Garden Club has one coming up in September.......:D0 -
Had a sprinkle of rain this evening with more due in the next few days but it's been glorious & the dolphins have been playing

Lovely Itsme, I wish the ferry link from Swansea to Devon's north coast had happened, I think we would have been regular visitors...or maybe not, ask me how may times we've been to Cardigan bay to see those same dolphins most likely making their way round the coast line? All of none! No dolphins, no fish and chips by the seaside, nothing!
(taking myself of to have a word!) (oh and checking spellings too!!!)0 -
Things seem to be on the up here. Build scheduling looking like things might work timing wise for the grants that are available if we can qualify within the August end deadline.....
Also, I survived a whole day with the kids - first day of the holiday - we went to a local community farm0
