I recall one "local" (elderly arrived as a child) referring with suitable distain to a member of my family as a newcomer within ear shot. A member of a family who had lived their for generations pointed out rather more loudly that they had lived there 20 years and had steered the local school out of special measures as well as a, b, c.

On the other hand I am still introduced to people in one village as "A B's grand daughter". He died in the fifties!

I confuse people. I'm a 'newcomer' who knows a lot about the area 45 years ago, and I speak the language! :rotfl:

We live on the outskirts of a straggle of houses/crofts & boy am I glad. It's fine with the locals who are very keep ourselves to ourselves, but are pleasent. Some people who come want to change the place from a crofting township into their playground & it causes mayhem.

We did get some real bother for a few years, but fought our corner. It's all exhausting stuff & most unpleasent, but we keep ourselves to ourselves in the main & don't get involved in all the committee stuff as nothing ever comes of all their committees, just blather & bile. Some folks are serial committee members & love banging on & getting up everyone's noses. It's such a shame, but I think some folks have too much time on their hands.
Not putting this very well at all. It's the heat.

Scaffolding being shifted & the last of the roof sheeting going on today - hurray! The weather's baking hot.

Understood that perfectly, choille, & it's what we do. We stay well out of everything.
It does make a bit of a mockery of the idyll of 'community spirit' but, as we value our privacy, it suits us just fine.

Like you we have seen people move in who want to change things, stand on the council etc. Those sort don't usually last long around here.

So glad that your roofing is all but done.

SO GLAD IT WAS ONLY A BLIP...

just imagine if we al got separated:eek::eek::eek:

    think I might be expecting:cool:

My first little courgette of the season:D:D,

after having loads of fruit and veg cheap, then losing it, it has made me realise, we do need to get ready to grow loads next year, not only for ourselves, but for the animogs( had to nick our alfie's saying as I think its cool:p).

Yes animal feed is going up and up, like our food is, BUT After Alfie visited, and gave our girls treats, it was sooooo blatant that they would do well on it, not only as a treat...

As their runs are now just dust baths, and they have eaten practically every bit of green, stalks and all, I am now collecting sticky willy:D as they love that, I am now buying fruit and veg again in another place, but the discounts isn't as good:o, so does work out kg for kg than dry food, BUT.. hayho..

Right off to make another quick cuppa, and then off to the ranch for a few hours
Work to live= not live to work

Well the heavens opened so not quite finished.

    I'm doing everything wrong today.:o

Half way through digging the spuds for tonight's salad, DW informs me the gas bottle is empty. Luckily, I know where to get gas at 7.45pm, because our friend in the village sells it. :D

So, finally, we get to boil the spuds, but now there's another dilemma: do we put the hens to bed or eat? I decide we can fit in eating, so DW dishes up while I rush about laying the table....except I knock my pop bottle over, forget that I did it,, open it and spray the entire table with lemonade....:o

DW goes out quietly to sort the hens.....:A

I wonder what lemonade salad tastes like. I'll find out in a minute. :)
