I think the 28 day rule applies to touring caravans too, when we were looking, and nearly bought the 20 acres with so called planning permission pending for a small caravan club site.. there was something about a caravan could not be on site longer than 28 days..
But I should imagine it could be 'hooked up' to be a site office, seed storage etc, so you are not walking in and out of the house all day with work/gardening clothes on;)
Didn't copy you post, just incase you might want to remove it laterWork to live= not live to work0 -
Hi Dave
AFAIK... you don't need permission for a caravan if it's inside the "curtilage" of your house/garden. In that instance it can be used as ancillary accommodation etc etc and that's fine. Not sure if it's because it falls under permitted development, in which case if you've done an extension and used PD already you'd need to check.
If the caravan is somewhere in the rest of your property I think you do need permission depending on what it's used for. I can't picture the layout of your place, so where is the caravan in relation to the house/garden?
Sounds like it will be used to accommodate people, how often, for visitors, family, tourists etc? I think that will also have a bearing on what permission needs to be sought.
I have a caravan in my garden, the crafty one, not sure it's allowed to be there because technically we've used our PD rights up (there's PP for an extension which has technically begun when an old garage was knocked down).
Then we acquired another 'van which is a temp store for tools etc while we get ready to have the outbuildings re-roofed. It's in the yard, near the buildings for convenience, but outside the curtilage. I think I should have got permission or at least asked, but I can't be bothered, if anyone says owt I'll just move it into the garden.
Can the caravan be seen by anyone from outside your property? If no-one knows it's there who's going to report it?!
I'm not sure you can get away with the site office thing for any length of time - we asked our planning officer about a caravan to live in and be a site office when we come to renovate, he said it would be on a temp permission for 18 months or something.
There are various rules where you can have a caravan on ag land but that generally applies to plots of land without any sort of dwelling, so you can have a caravan for tea breaks etc etc
I don't know about saying you're using it for storage, are the connections to the services obvious? Using it as an outside loo, may be feasible? I think if it looks habitable (nicely done out) a planning officer would assume the worst case scenario in his eyes ie you were trying to get a new dwelling there.
I'd be interested to find out the outcome, as we're thinking of some sort of caravan on our land for visiting workers, I have a feeling that's a different scenario again and we can probably justify that. Is that an option for you Dave?
It's so confusing and you don't like to raise the planners' suspicions, their first answer is always "no". I'd make an anonymous call, put on your panto voice or something!!! If the advice is in your favour then give your name and get an email confirming it.0 -
Thanks for your thoughts on caravans. This one would be within the garden and we might use it during building, but it would otherwise be for BiL to take occasional weekend holidays. People will know it's there, just like they know all kinds of things in the country, but few, if any, will be able to view it.
My nephew has lived in it for a few years at home, and believe me, if the neighbour could have prevented this, he would have done.:rotfl:
Poor old front hedge; if people aren't pulling it up they're using it for athletics:
This guy from Interlink Express has been asked politely not to park there, as it's just after a bend. Then he won't need to jump over our front hedge and developing border...but he doesn't seem to care.0 -
Think A formal complaint is in order there, and a poss phone call to the police for dangerous parking????
With all this hot weather, and we cant really have all the doors and windows wide open because of the cats will get out, youngest as now taken up residence in the small caravan outside the house... do I care what the neighbours think:A:D:D
Personally I would just go ahead with it, suck it and see if the phrase:D.. even if it is hooked up, and is going to be used on the odd occasion, if anyone turns up from officialdom, just say you have hooked it up to charge the battery up, keeping it aired... etc..or if you are like me, act dull:pWork to live= not live to work0 -
Dear CTC, only just read about the awful attack on your piglets.
So sorry to hear about it, hope that the little piggies are OK and don't take any long lasting damage.
We finally made it to the caravan yesterday. Totally knackered! But good to be here! Better go now as the GrandTwins are arriving back from their walk!

thank you Maggie, they seemed to have bounce back...its been 4 days now, so fingers crossed, haven't got a clue how the deep scar tissue will effect the meat???? but at the moment they are being spoiled rotten..
they seem to be ok with dogs in general now, as some of the regular walkers with their dogs have been looking/smoothing the pigs as they normally do.
what a beautiful view... looks a lovely place to just chill out and relaxWork to live= not live to work0 -
The hedging is all replanted and shows no sign of distress this morning.
How are your piggies, CTC?
Forgot to mention, we're having a caravan parked here permanently and plumbed in to barn electrics and the small septic tank which hasn't been used yet.
No one will live in it and it won't really be visible to anyone else. Are we supposed to get permission? It's only a touring caravan. The people who were here before us had a similar one, though the connections to services were more.. er... ad hoc.
if it is for your use and no money changes hands ie rented out ,then you dont need permissions [well not here]. electric is for keeping damp out ISNT IT;) and the loo is for use as an outside loo,,,ISNT IT0 -

So glad piggies seem to be OK.
It is a great place to chill out and relax and watch the weatheror it will be when poor DH has de-brackened and de-brambled the hedge! The honeysuckle is taking over the patio again, we'll wait till the stuff spreading towards caravan has flowered (lots of buds! :j ) before we hack it back. I thought with the really cold Spring weather that we'd lose the jasmine, but it's growing like fury, has grown right up over a hawthorn bush, and has flowers and buds coming too. No perfume at the mo as it's just too windy!
Wind is getting up more, rain forecast all day tomorrow... Hardly surprising as it's Market Day in Pwllheli, it always seems to rain on Market Day in summer! :rotfl:
Clouds rolling in too. But rain notwithstanding I think the plan is to launch the boat tomorrow, anchor in close to shore (so can dry out at low water and not just sink which has happened to us before  ). After the prolonged hot weather and sun baking all her seams have opened up, so she needs for the planks to swell before she can go off to her rather deeper water mooring.
Meanwhile OH is dragging bracken out of the hedge and cutting back the brambles. I should have taken a "before" photo! The buddleia (sp?) is just beginning to come into flower - late this year. So not a lot of butterflies yet, but hope they will come once the wind drops again and it's warmer again.0 -

CTC - good to hear the little piggies are doing well and loved the little tale about Paul pushing the straw through for them :A
Davesnave - liked the action photo of your hedge - I would be tempted to email the photo with appropriate commentary to Interlink and see what they sayIt is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
