Weird weather today, def. feel like there's thunder about but just the odd spot of rain so far. I watered the grass anyway and the most recently planted stuff in case nothing comes of it.

New borders are now looking good with shaggy dahlia(*), salvia, bellflower, white form of valerian, eryngium, shasta diasy and holyhock in bud with allium seed heads

    (*) deeply non-yew, of course

    No, its a nother one!

I have spoken, I think your border looks beautiful. Really, really gorgeous.

We' had a list of inside jobs today but the weather is so gorgeous we spent the mad dog hour feeding and dead heading the long border.

We HAVE to crack on inside, but we might do some white border later.

A bit grumpy my olive tree hasn't arrived. They get really shorty when I call and say its because they are so busy doing the shows, but its been a ruddy long time. I don't really mind if it doesn't come till autumn, but I'd like a date, that had said a couple of weeks ago and it just didn't come.

The threatened rain didn't arrive, but we've had some mizzle, which is no use to man nor beast. :(

The garage is tidied-up: 40 blocks are inside, ready for Mr Builder on Monday and all the rubbish has been burned, but with rain forecast we didn't cut any grass.

Instead, DW finished planting a new area of border while I planted out leeks, lettuce and other stuff. I then went down to the copse area and stuck in a few surplus perennials that might loosely fit with the concept of a wildflower area.

Up in the 'attic' of the garage, I can currently look out over the valley at the fantastic view we'll never quite have. It would be madness to put in an oriel window or a velux though, as the height is only about 4' and it'll be unbearably hot up there.

IHS, we have that valerian. We've always had it, and its stablemate the pinky one with bronzed leaves in spring. Here, both forms are available FOC in the hedgerows down in the valley, but perhaps not up here.

    That's some dahlia!

Lir, I grew my olives from seed. :D They don't seem to be the same variety as the ones normally sold in the UK, though. The leaves are smaller.

Figs are ready.:) I think I said last year that Chulmleigh seems to be the fig capital of Devon. I put it down to all the old walled gardens and cob houses, which create many sunny, sheltered corners.

Lucielle hope Hubby's scan goes well.

Beautiful flowers IHS - Love the dahlia too.

We are inundated with sparras as well Dave. The shrubbery is like a sparra tenement, it moves with them. They dust in the sand on the track & make quite large round indentations. The noise they make is amazing, I think the collective noun should be a squabble of sparras.

Well Spider, ole cat just passed away incredibly peacably in his sleep. What a splendid fellow he was.
No hens & now no cats. It's gonna seem pretty dash quiet here.
